To the extent Jamaica has bad rap in intl sailing community, it is for the following reasons- headache dealing with gvt officials trying to check in; same headaches multiplied having to check in and out going between cities and bays [not common in many counties, once checked in never have to speak to another gvt official until checking out]; Jamaica not on the common carribean coconut route btween FL and Granada; tighter intl insurance terms in Carribean overall, no meaningful sailing books or pilot guides for Jamaica on sale and not really good nautical charts and surveys available for bays and anchorages outside of those few served by commercial ships. If Jamaica really wants to entice large numbers of yachties- and it can because Jamaica is a great place- then government officials need to take a trip to many of the Antiilles counties and see how easy they make it to come and stay (especially the French ones). Its a shame but in sailing circles crime isn't really the concern, it's the hassle. Jamaica is bypassed in favor of much easier and more welcoming destinations. I love Jamaica btw. I'm there at least twice a year, but not on a boat. If the country made it as easy to sail there as to fly there all costal communities would see cruising dollars float in.

@@ItIs-m3v You don't need to have a boat to sail. You can come and learn sailing by helping on the dock/cleaning boats, get a job in the marinas. We then paid 10 USD per 30 mins renting hobie cats in Iberostar (and no, we didn't need to pay for the resort, but simply made arrangements with the Dressel Divers). Note, I cannot afford to sail nor buy a boat either yet, but I've been sailing in Jamaica for 7 years.
you have a point and this indeed needs to be changed (and it can only be changed with the help of the media), but I've noticed that most youngsters are not really excited about the badness culture. Instead - a lot of them are excited about "leaving Jamaica" culture, because their parents keep telling them that there is too much "badness culture" in Jamaica, so they should do their best to move to the USA/CA/UK.
LET BE HONEST HERE DO YOU ALL KNO TOURIST ARE 100 time safer than our own JAMAICAN people I think many of them have so many respect for tourists it’s so amazing the love we have for outsiders
Our OWN Jamaican people need to learn to respect life. We can't be so angry to the point of thinking that killing each other is the ONLY answer to conflict resolution.
@douglasjoseph What a preposterous statement. Jamaicans are killing each other over scamming, gang warfare, family land, and interrelationship issues, and here you are saying that they should kill tourists. So then Jamaica becomes a pariah in the world more than it is presently because of the crime issues. No tourists would come and our economy would suffer and become another Haiti.
I've seen both sides of the story and can confirm Jamaicans do NOT like "outsiders" more than the locals. What's really happening is that the "outsiders" FIRST give love and respect for Jamaicans and Jamaicans naturally return the favour, as they see genuine interest and better treatment from the "outsiders" than from their own people. Jamaicans who act in the same way - give love and respect to their own people FIRST - will get the same love and respect in return. "Outsiders" who don't give respect first - never get it in return either. See "the Fake Diplomat" video on my channel about Mario (outsider) who kept complaining about Jamaicans - and nobody was giving him any love and respect. Basically, if you walk around assuming that people are bad - they will not treat you nice either, as simple as that. The bottomline - it simply depends on the person and has nothing to do with whether the person is an outsider or a local person. By the way, do you consider Carolyn to be an "outsider"? A person whose family is Jamaican (she's married to a Jamaican) and spent over 30 years in Jamaica?

So long as he's a good match for her and a decent man. Apparently, he is. So, why not?.....She clearly knows what she's doing and has it together. She's inspiring for anybody any age or gender.
I was wondering when it was filmed when I saw the Christmas Tree. My sister in law lives in Buff Bay and she keeps her tree up year round, only because she has a special needs child. But my mind did wonder, “Do Jamaicans keep their trees up all year?”
Not sure how long Jamaicans keep the trees, but the interview itself was filmed at Christmas over a year ago (November 2022) so the tree was there for a reason. It just takes me forever to edit the videos, I have about 20+ stories sitting on my disks filmed.. waiting for editing, but keep being pushed 'cause something urgent comes up, like that Travel Advisory situation.
Super footage!! Fortunate to have briefly met Carolyn on our last trip .. never knew she was such a seasoned sailor!! Looking forward to learning more from her .. mi soon come back 🫶🏻 🇯🇲
as an American married to a Jamaican this video hits the nail on the head for us ! As we are refitting a sailboat in the States for a planned circumnavigation of the world , we have plans of stopping in our beloved Jamaica ! We had inquired around Kingston for her to take sailing lessons to no avail . We hear amongst the cruising community via social media the typical uneducated hysteria about safety in Jamaica. There is also a false narrative that due to it's proximity to Haiti and Cuba there is danger of pirates , which is a real & actual danger off the coast of some Central & South American countries . However with great videos like this we can help dispel these negative stereotypes ! . However the BIGGEST problem we hear from the "cruising" community is that the Jamaican Coast Guard is perhaps a bit overly aggressive with cruisers and fails to honor a single immigration check in at ONE port and forces sailors to repeatedly interrupt their travels by once again checking in at another port ! Most Sailing friendly Nations DO NOT DO THIS ! You will see this UNFORTUNTELY in multiple videos on the UA-cam playlist we created - - -"Sailing Jamaica for Cruisers - -- nearly 60 videos now ! link : ua-cam.com/play/PLHxkvAgwPI6cQFms6e74izJqqt8UzbjvX.html&si=F28COX0O7D3aD6zh
Sorry, this recommendation cannot be made, because if I recommend something and you won't like it - then I would be to blame :) In general, every resort has its own unique thing going on, so it depends on your needs, budget, how old your kids are, what are your interests etc. I used to stay at Holiday Inn with my kids, because it has a very shallow sea area, a lot of fun infrastructure (icecream/snack hut, pool table, lots of food 24/7 - my kids loved these) and it was relatively affordable, as they had special rates for families. There are also places like "Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa" and "Sunset Beach Resort, Spa & Waterpark Resort", which have some sort of a fun waterpark. These are "older" hotels, if you want something new and modern and if your kids like waterpark activities - then you might consider Royalton Blue Waters - it's in Falmouth, so about 30 mins drive from Montego Bay towards Ocho Rios. Jewel Grade is great for a romantic getaway. Note though, it's located in the middle of nowhere and lacks any typical resort infrastructure, as the place used to be just a lot of privately owned condos, some are still being rented out on Airbnb, so I wouldn't recommend Jewel Grande in Montego Bay for a family with kids. In general - you have to decide what you want to do during your stay in Jamaica, what type of activities, where you wish to go outside of the resort etc.
They are still together. One of their photographs was taken as I was editing the video - it's the photo in the sunlight here: 4:38 He does fishing and also runs some of the tours with Carolyn.
It's sounds like the sailing community find sailing around Jamaica too challenging, so they chose the easy options. Someone needs to sponsor a sailing competition, sailing round the island challenge cup or something, with a worthwhile prize..and make it a yearly event..another awesome vlog. I enjoyed story. My girl is seriously fit for her age. Great personality and great vybs..❤️🙏🏾..🇯🇲💯
yes, we have Pineapple Cup, which is sailing from Miami to Montego Bay, it's quite challenging, but it's been going on from 1961. The next one is in January 2025
They have said some horrible things about NYC and I have lived there for over 20 years with no crime to me or most of the people I know. So I will return to Jamaica just don't go where you have a thousand jewelry around neck , writs and ears. Would you walk into a lion/tiger's den?
All I can say is "inspiring"! I'm 73 and have loved the water all my life...lifeguarded, coached swimming, taught swimming, snorkeled and scuba dove...and she makes me feel like I've missed my biggest opportunities. I've always loved Jamaica and her people...great video, you had me hooked in the first second.

This woman is not just pretty she is smart. That's the best way to control a guy, say yes.
Looking forward to learning more from her .. mi soon come back 🫶🏻 🇯🇲
Thanks, Irie. I enjoyed this video.
Awesome interview of beautiful Jamaica 🇯🇲 my land of birth
Hi Irie
I would like to see you do a documentary on overfishing in jamaica, a huge problem that is not getting enough press
Great video!!! Thank you for showing just how beautiful Jamaica is 🇯🇲
Thanks, very informative video.
as an American married to a Jamaican this video hits the nail on the head for us ! You will see this UNFORTUNTELY in multiple videos on the UA-cam playlist we created - - -"Sailing Jamaica for Cruisers - -- nearly 60 videos now ! link :

Coast guards just trying to keep us jamaicans safe and drugs and weapons out.
This lady is definitely enjoying her life
Dear IRIE where is best resort to stay with kids in Montego bay ? Please answer this message . We love to visit .
Consider Jewel grande (palmyra)
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE you are awesome thank you 🙏
This woman is amazing, and I see why you would aspire for a life of adventure similar to hers. Another superb video Irena🎉
Where's her Jamaican husband now? Did he pass away?
Another one, Irene 👏 👏 👏
GREAT STORY NICE 👌 VIDEO
They have said some horrible things about NYC and I have lived there for over 20 years with no crime to me or most of the people I know. So I will return to Jamaica just don't go where you have a thousand jewelry around neck , writs and ears. Would you walk into a lion/tiger's den?
Ohhh my Caroline is a true Jamaican full of life n vibes Bigup urself Caroline 💯😍👌🏾 Such a beautiful woman u too Irene always on it 👊🏾🥰
Irie you hit it again, love you
Thank you for introducing us to another fascinating person and activity in Jamaica. Jah bless!❤
Another informative vlog Irena. Thank you.
Good content lady
very inspiring!
