    Love how humble and simple this 80s corollas are, still put a nice look and of course Toyota Reliability.

    I had this same car! White 86 Corolla. It was a Minnesota winter beater. That's a tough life for a car. All of the salt, below zero temps, snow and ice. Kept the tires good and the oil changed, and it was more or less bulletproof. It did the Toyota name proud. Very capable through snow, and rarely got stuck. The road salt is what got it at around 200k, but the drivetrain was solid until the very end. Your interior tour brought back a lot of memories.. the gauge cluster, and the big long shifter. When you put that thing in gear, you did it on purpose. I still have a thing for 80's cars, largely due to the time I spent with it. Glad you give it the appreciation it deserves. By the way, I really like your channel. Weird to say, but I feel sorry for some of the cars. They were once proudly driven home off of a new car lot, and now there they are.. homeless, and ownerless. Often in disrepair, but many easy to fix issues. When you bring one home, it's like rescuing the cool old dog from the pound that nobody wanted. I've seen several you've shown that I would (quite seriously) buy in a heartbeat for the money they sold for (or more!). Can't find deals like that around here. Anyway, sorry for the length. Was actually looking to send you an email, but couldn't find an address.. so this big long comment will have to do. Hope you do more of those auction walks!

    My old room mate bought one of these new in '86, while I bought an '86 Oldsmobile Calais Supreme. My car was fully loaded while his was very basic. But I know now, many years later, that he got the better car.

    My 7th grade science teacher (back in '87) had this exact car. Anytime I see a white Corolla from '86-'87, I always think of her.
    My best friend's mom had a '86 Chevy Nova (same basic car) and it was a tank. We put it through the wringer when we were teenagers and it never missed a beat. I eventually had a '85 Civic which was a great car, but a little more fragile than the Toyota.

    I have got a 86 Toyota Corolla 1300 12 valve here in Norway. Has 200 000 km (124 274 mile) on it. Only changed 2 timebelts and alternator . Nothing beat this. Has also a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria LX too.

    This Corolla performs more reliably in the snow than today's larger SUVs. Why aren't there simple, sustainable cars like this today?
    Respect to the old man who has owned the same car for over 30 years!
    14 years in the 20th century, 23 years in the 21st century... It makes me sad that more and more 80s cars have spent more time in the 21st century than in the 20th century.
    We're moving away from the good times. :(

      I agree! At the end of the day basic reliable transportation is all you need, front wheel drive does great in the snow. Growing up this pretty close to what we had to get around in during the winter and it was fine. I get that feeling too regarding moving away from the good times. Used to be fun times.

    The issue with the gas gauge is likely a bad fuel sending unit inside the tank. That can be easily fixed, and I’m pretty sure it’s accessible from underneath the backseat.

    • @highmileagehopes9860
      @highmileagehopes9860  9 місяців тому

      @@highmileagehopes9860 yeah most Japanese cars are designed like that. The only caveat with replacing descending unit is you might have to buy a complete fuel pump assembly unit from Toyota. I’m not sure if they sell it separately but you might get lucky and be able to find one.
