WOW!!! Never in all my years(43) have I heard anyone be able to articulate the intangibles of singing as well as yourself. That is a gift within a gift. I'm truely impressed.

WARNING: This will be a long comment!! LOL
It was cool to see you talking about a topic that you are really passionate about. This is not to say that you aren't passionate about singing in general but what you had to say on ad libs holds a special note of interest for you.
I too love ad libs. It just allows singers to express their own feelings vocally about a piece and give it their own take.
I truly enjoyed this tutorial. It was personal, friendly and chock full of useful advice for aspiring singers.
That Jill Scott ad lib you did was nice.I love her song "golden". I also enjoyed your amazing grace personal take on it.
I think one of the most important take aways is not to go crazy with adlibs. You're right most people are NOT interested in all of that! I know I am not and it can be a really big turn off.
I am learning more and more that people like stuff that they can easily follow myself included. So make it short, sweet, memorable. Keep the good content coming:-]
I am simply adding on to my singing knowledge to sound better in the future.
    Best, Marvin

Thanks for those tips. I have a problem doing runs and how to sing from my diaphragm not being shy and all.I'm always worried about how I'm going to look if I should put some meaning into what I'm singing and what people will think of me. I'm just too shy and that's my biggest problem right now.

All of originate from those same blacks. Just some of stayed in the same environment and culture. Some of us didn't forget where we came from. (Speaking in the up most respectful way I can on this. People don't wanna believe this.)

it is really a difference in the structure of the vocal tract in the body, you see that black people have wide boned noses for example which is very helpful resonance wise

I think you've made some valid points in this video. One thing I disagree with is a varying run. Now your example of someone singing a run high then going low, isn't necessarily a bad thing if done well. Now, that's not to say going 2 or more octaves above to 2 or more octaves below is always best. But that's definitely a complex run I hear sometimes in music and actually like. Anyway, great video!

And wow, I can literally see it in my head when you sang the three parts of the Jill Scott song. It's like you're taking off from a note on the rhythm, and you can fly anywhere in the harmonies, as long as you land on a note in the rhythm again. Singing is like flying an airplane :)
