Same. The Doherty episode especially, me and my dad loved Ken... I was always a staunch Hendry fan, whilst my dad was a loyal Jimmy White fan, so the 90's were eventful in our house on Crucible final days! Ha... But when Ken won in 97, we both felt happy with it. He absolutely deserved that one.
And Alan has more of an accent even than in commentary, I feel? (I suppose he tries to be more standard then, as it's TV and all and he needs to be understood) Because I understand him less now. 😅 (English is not my first language) I do understand everything in commentary and yes I love him, when he's on I always listen to him (on the app) instead of my local commentators.
Yeah, when you speak to a fellow scot you relax into your normal accent cause you're not worried about not being understood. At least that's how it is for me.
Yep, I believe it's called "code switching" which is something we all subconsciously do to some extent. I'm English, but for example when I visit the USA my accent will become slightly American. In my home city I'll speak with my natural accent. It's a weird thing that most of us do without even thinking about it.
Yes that's exactly what i was thinking nice to see stephen etc still praise him especially stephen hendry being he was his hero, and stephen is always saying good things about steve davis which is great to see and they blend well together
as an American who loves the game and wishes snooker had a bigger following here, Im so glad to see Hendry dedicating so much time to giving this fantastic free content and education to all that choose to take advantage.I love the education, the in depth viewpoints from him and his guests and the history. I'm a happy subscriber and look forward to the next video.
I met Alan way back in preston guild hall when it was the uk championship an he was the nicest human alive, unbelievable snooker knowledge and hes in my opinion the best commentator we have in the game today. Loved the video stephen keep them comin ❤🎉😊
I'm 35 and been addicted to snooker for 30. The one thing that always astounds me is the mutual respect between players. An absolute pleasure watching this.
Being scottish myself, i knew the scottish accents of both were gonna be turned up a few notches in this meeting!! I do the same myself. Keep up the good work Stephen. Loving these vids. Watched many on my flight to the US last week (downloaded them in advance).
As others have said, watching this channel the first thing I think is "wish my dad was still here". He loved snooker and would be watching all of these. This interview with Alan is class, great guy. Good job with the channel, Stephen.
Yes, I agree. This is a great interaction, friendly and natural. Unlike other sports there seems to be a feeling of real family between the ex pros - no tension, jealousy or big rivalries, just a mutual respect which is how it should be. Thoroughly enjoy watching the "old" brigade get together like this as it brings back memories of all the great matches I watched in the late eighties and early nineties. Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine just a few weeks ago and it obviously isn't nice. Watching this cheered me up.
I love every episode, but THIS was fantastic. The knowledge Alan has of the game is unmatched and also some brilliant chemistry between you guys. Pair of absolute legends of the game.
Angles is such a joy to listen to. One of the best and most knowledgeable pundits and commentators in the game. And this channel just gets better and better. A gift to snooker fans.
Would really like to see one of these shows with Neil Foulds. He has got a history in the game and it would be interesting to see Neil with a cue in his hand again
Foulds and Virgo would be the two. There's plenty of guys from yesteryear who'd be very interesting. Heck, give Clive Everton a call, he's not doing Snooker Scene anymore, so I bet he's got all the stories.
It’s funny how much more Stephen’s Scottish accent comes out in this video with Alan, a fellow Scotsman. Sometimes I forget Stephen is even Scottish! Great video as always.
my favourite one so far!! Alan McManus is an absolute legend! be one of my top 3 to sit and have a chin wag about snooker and life as well to be fair. ''subtitles'' had me laughing :D class as always Stephen
Alan was a far better player than his record suggests and should have won far more than he did. A great commentator. Comes across as a really nice guy. I like him👍
Wow this was lovely, what a nice guy, had a laugh when Stephen moves the reds to place the black. These videos are so candid they are an absolute pleasure to watch. For the first time we learn some history about how they started, who were roll models. Thank you Stephen.
I grew up in the lates 80/90’s supporting these two, best channel on UA-cam. Scotland for the size of us has produced the uk’s finest bunch of players ever
Good stuff Stephen. Your channel is great info and great fun. Had the pleasure of living in the UK for 3yrs so no subtitles required😃 Kind of proud of myself that I even pegged Alan's accent as a Glaswegian. Alas, no snooker tables to be found here in the US so youtube is the only place I get my snooker fix these days.
I did wonder if you two had brought out the Scottish in each other more haha, a lot more ayes and cannaes than you'd hear on the tele! Love it. Well done Stephen, top quality content as always. Congratulations on 100k as well.
Lovely interesting conversation! One my abiding memories of Alan was when he was on the tv show called Big Break (I think), it was hosted by Jim Davidson, who asked Alan if by any chance he was related to the old time wrestler Mick McManus. Without hesitation and so straight faced Alan said yes he’s my uncle, which completely threw Jim right off balance. Alan then admitted he had lied and the whole studio erupted in laughter😂. Good on yer Alan👍
Another top drawer video, i really love what Stephen has done on this channel especially with guests in his studio, noticed in this one he kept going into deep Scottish accent after Alan had talked though, keep em coming Sir.
I loved watching snooker on t.v and after seeing Angles on this video it reminded me of my mum who always loved a newcomer and remember her raving about Alan saying how much she liked his game. God bkess her she never missed a match.
Stephen you mention your original cue a few times on your channel. Some of us know what happened to your cue but would you make a video with you talking about how you got it and what you went through when it was broken.
Loved it when Alan got to the semi of the WC a few years ago at the oldest age. Love these interviews and going back to old matches etc. Hendry will always be my favourite snooker player.
McManus the first player to end Hendry's winning streak at the Masters beating him in the final in 94. Also who remembers McManus's fantastic run at the World Championship's a few years ago ? A fantastic player and a gentleman respect to McManus.
There's something about that deep commanding Scottish accent McManus shares with other pundits across other sports which is so appealing. He could say anything and it would sound so insightful and true to me. He could say a black ball is worth 37 points and I'd believe it.
Did they even realise this was for UA-cam? 😂 it was like two mates who havnt met in years just chilling having a chat most genuine “interview” on this channel. 👍
I hope you guys please read my comment because almost 35 years ago my good friend from Kelowna bc Canada. Beefy golan played in England and I still watch all of the tournaments and world championships to this day., please keep us and you guys in the game for everyone to enjoy thanks Stephen and Allen it’s very enjoyable
Didn't expect Alan to be this lively, I was expecting him to be more contained. Stephen does a very good job at luring his guests out of their shell in a way
Such great insights into the game and thinking of two great pros. loved when Alan made the semis of the worlds a few years back with the tartan trousers on , such a good character 🏴 and the way he stops talking when Stephens striking the ball he's a true gentleman. It's amazing Stephen saying he would have been more safety minded later in his career...but it's so cool he still has the love for the game
It's so funny you guys apologized at the end, because I noticed maybe 2 minutes in that Alan definitely dials back the Glasgow in his accent when he's on tv hahaha. Thank goodness that John is my favorite player and I've had a lot of practice listening to Glaswegian accents. Great video! Angles is the MAN!
I do love watching these, when I watched snooker back in the day. It was like watching different people I’ve never heard Alan speak so much thank you guys for the amazing snooker. Would love to see one of these with jimmy white.
Another fantastic video, Stephen, thank you so much. Whenever one of your videos comes up in suggestions, along with many other suggestions, I watch some of the other suggestions first and keep your video for desserts: I know that you're always serving something special, with a unique blend of artfulness, humour and warmth. A pure delight. This one was extra special to me.
Love them sharing the cue. It’s just like 2 lads down the club 😂
Aye, where you pick out the least bent one and share it. 👍
It's like watching 2 brothers having a catch up over a friendly frame... Literally finishing each other's sentences 😂😂
@@akib2542 Lol 😂😂
This channel is magical for me.
I’ll say it again, I wish my dad was still around to watch this with him.
I wish the same thing. My father introduced me to snooker. Fond memories playing and watching snooker with him.
he is...
I was thinking the same thing. He'd enjoy this one in particular

@@frankberryfilms 100%, Doherty stopping Hendry more or less in his prime was exceptional. He’s a sound bloke too.
Love how Alan makes Stephen sound more Scottish! Angles is one of my fave commentators of the modern bunch. Really enjoyed this.

Stephen, thank you for putting this gem online, could watch it hours on end, brilliant.
I love how they all are so respectful and still in awe of Steve Davis
Yes that's exactly what i was thinking nice to see stephen etc still praise him especially stephen hendry being he was his hero,

their honesty shines out

Great thing about the snooker is all the commentators are great! 🎱
Tell you what. McManus should start a UA-cam channel. Doing something with snooker. It would be unreal. He's a great guy man.
Best episode yet . Two Scottish legends. Alan is the best commentator in snooker class act 👌🏻🏴
Yea top man Angles
Stephen's true Scottish side comes out throughout this, I love it 😂😂
How so

Play snooker casually, but grew up with these legends ,but never really got to know them outside snooker, cheers Stephen for creating this Channel.
I’ve been waiting for this one since the very first episode. Thanks for sharing your love of our beautiful game
These videos are quite superb. I feel like I’m in the room with them, beer in hand, enjoying the banter. Many thanks to all involved.
I grew up watching these guys playing and watching them here brings to mind, the old saying, that time waits for no one. Thank you for the memories.

Really enjoyed that one, Alan's analytic commentary and personality makes him one of my favourite characters in snooker.
Another excellent interview. Love how revealing and open everyone is and the things you both talk about.

Made me smile at the end when Stephen said “you may need subtitles for that one” : )
The greatest UA-cam channel. 2 heroes of mine. Coming from an Englishmen that is 1000000000% a compliment.
