Hello, do you know solution for this one The fluid displacement technique is used to find the porosity of a certain core sample. The sample is first coated with paraffin (density of 0.9 g/cm3) and submerged in a beaker filled with water (density 1 g/cm3), where the volume of water before and after submerging the sample is recorded. Then, the paraffin is removed, the sample is saturated with water and then weighed. The following information is given for the sample:
- Dry weight of the core = 140.2 g
- Weight of the core with paraffin = 145.6 g
- Initial volume in the beaker = 242.5 cm3
- Final volume in the beaker = 318.0 cm3
- Weight of the core saturated with water = 156.8 g

Thank you I. Advance
👌
Super
Thank you!
Do you have any knowledge about about Day's apparatus to estimate porosity of grain sample if you know then please reply because I didn't find it on Google
Hello buddy, do you know if I need to gently wipe the material's surface to remove excess of water?
Yes, you should gently wipe the material. We are only interested in the volume filling the pores to measure the porosity.
@@petrohow Thanks so much!
can this use for concrete?
Bro do u he d answers for the fundamental of reservoir rock properties 2nd edition ? I would really appreciate if u could send me d answers
Can I do the same without the vacuum pump? Thank for the video :)
It is not advised as the pore volume will be filled by both water and air. This will cause errors when measuring the porosity.
I do not have drill core samples, so can I apply this methodology to determine the porosity of my rocks sampled on the surface? if yes, can the values be representative of porosity for same the rock in the subsurface since the rocks beneath might suffer from compaction due to weight of overburden material? Thank you very much for this videos.
I actually used this for porous asphalt can you help me sir
what is the name of the vacuum equipment?
Can I apply this method to determine the porosity of sedimentary rocks sampled on the surface?
Yes, the procedure is the same regardless of the rock type.
What software did you use to make these animations
how do we search apparent density from porosity?
Some of the parameters needed for the apparent density are discussed in the following video: Measuring the Bulk Volume of Irregular Shapes. However, we do not discuss apparent density in this course.
How given this reference in end the vedio please?
All the references mentioned are available in the description box under the video.
@@petrohow thanks dear
U made a mistake w dry- w saturated is wrong. See the picture down of it
