For some reason, I can vividly remember watching this game as a 9 year old kid at a Costco. There was 25 people crowded around some display TVs at the entrance and watched this entire shootout.
Them being better now, doesn't mean they were better in juniors. Cogliano was pretty good offensively in the OPJHL and had a great year at Michigan that year, his game just didn't translate to the NHL so he changed his game to what it is now.
@@D95-d7y why? These tournaments are only so long for a reason. They'd never do 20 mins of 5v5 continuous OT. The teams these guys come from wouldn't like that either. 3on3 gives the best chance to end it early.

I guess that since shootouts were quite rare at the time, goalies and players werent that good with them, I think NHL only adapted shootouts to season 2005-2006. Also goaltending in general has developed quite bit after 2007.
2007 was the middle of a weird transition in goaltending from the more reflexive hybrid style to the modern positional butterfly, it also coincided with a massive influx of offensive talent. Goalies had a very tough time facing dangerous shots head on
@@Skynexstar Yeah, that was actually the time I also played my junior years, it was definitely a transition period. Most junior goalthending coaches were still teaching some nineties techniques and it was quite challenge to adapt to new style. I think that thriving factor to change was developement with goalie pads, especially when vaugh introduced velocity pads and rbk brought premier series line. With that kind of gear you could actually move on ice without getting up after initial save. I think that goalies like Price have learned old style first and then adapted to new one, maybe goalies born in 1998 onwards are first generation that are native to modern butterfly style.
Sure Toews still chirps Kaner about this lol
Look at the Team Canada lineup and Steve Downie went first😂😂😂
Good thing Subban wasn't on the team. Not sure those two would have got along...

Hell ya
Who woulda guessed Toews would go on to lead the entire NHL in shootout goals
Many ppl say this is the best shootout ever. Very enjoyable to watch.
Only if you are on Canadian side.
To put time into perspective, Connor Bedard was 1 year old during this game

I got called to the principals office because my mom had call the school to let me know they won. One of my best memories

One for the ages… just like this year!
Toews is a winner.
Kind of funny watching this and being like dang a couple of them just won the cup on the Avs. Kind of cool seeing them from where they were to now
Kris Letang? Brad Marchand? James Neal? how about we put out Steve Downie and Andrew Cogliano lol
Wait Brad Marchand ? Totally didn’t know he was
On this team . Thinking he was younger than these guys . Like
Toews and Kane and Price

The coach seen them in practice and saw what they could do. It's pretty simple to understand why he'd send them.
Ugh those Canada uniforms look like practice jerseys.
Im canadian and I agree, not a big fan of those
It was the general design of the jerseys at that time, look at the US one it's the same template.
is this Letang captain ?
Yeah it's him!
Thank God they don't do this for gold medals anymore....
3 vs 3 OT is still a pretty shit way to decide a gold medal game but it is better than a shootout.
