    Finally, a video showing how to use the tool to remove the socket in my Liberty. All the other videos on YT only talk about replacing the fuse, which falls into the category of _DUHHH_ ...

    Is there any definitive known way to tell that the socket is bad and not something different, such as a fuse, etc? Just want to know before I buy the tool and socket and find out that a replacement doesn't work either. Please let me know if you know, thank you!

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  Рік тому +10

      Hi Tim, usually fuse if the first thing you look at. Look at your fuses and find out which one is for the covay lighter. If the fuse is bad then you replace and test it again.
      After checking the fuse it's usually the cigarette lighter but it could be power connection which also could be tested removing the dashboard if you don't have the tool or disconnecting the battery terminals the trying to remove the socket with screw drivers which is possible but not easy.
      Hope this helps

      Doesn't hurt or cost u money to check the fuse. It could be something as simple as the fuse. If u need just a fuse you at least buy a small pack and replace that one that's bad. That would be a some thing you fixed for less than 5 dollars depending on how much a pack of fuses are

    I've seen a few videos about how to take these things out and there are very few that get straight to the point like this video...
    I've currently got a broken socket - I think I melted a wire from plugging too much stuff in - do I need to take apart my entire dash to access the wire behind? or should it be quick and simple like this?
    I don't really care to take it to the shop (and pay out to booty) for a problem so small.

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  Рік тому +1

      Try like this first and see if you get to see enough wire. It's pretty simple to pull the dash out. Either way works I think.

    Thank you. I'd never heard of that tool until I saw your video. I quickly made one, and the socket came out easily. I added wires to power a UHF unit.
    It all works, but my problem now is the socket does not fit tightly back into the car. If I can't figure out what to bend to make it tight, I will glue it.
    But You helped me get it OUT. Thanks again.
    **Added later** All went well, no glue needed😂

    I own a Onewheel Pint, and I bought their car charger for the Pint and it’s blown out every accessory port in my vehicle except for the one inside the center console. It’s a pain in the ass. After watching this, I just bought a two pack of replacement ports for $9.99 and I’m excited to try this.

    Great, to the point video 👍 One question: the docket on my Toyota 2007 RAV4 is flaky, meaning that the USB charger I plug into it doesn’t always work…I have move it around/twist it/etc to try and get power to the USB charger I plug into the cigarette lighter. Does this indicate I need to replace the socket like in this video…or does it indicate a problem with a fuse or wiring? Thanks

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  Рік тому +3

      It's the cigarette lighter like in this video. Fuse problem would make the fuse blow. Your problem usually happens either when the cigarette lighter is bad ( may only need to be discovered and have the contacts cleaned) or could the the USB connector to that you are plugging in there.
