Thanks Rob, Everyone that has their own channel returns messages within 24 hours. How you manage your personal life, children & work as well as UA-cam? My hat is off to everyone who has the dedication like you to their channel! 👊🏻👍 Then to have to deal with idiots & a**holes too knocking every little thing in your video? You had me fooled. I thought this is all you did?
Great instructional video. Like many others, I needed to know how to get the old lighter socket out. THANK YOU FOR MAKING A VIDEO ON THAT. I hope it works on my Infinity q60. Excellent videos!
Good video....Common problem solving at it's best.....I would have done the same thing, assemble first, side it in....I'm glad to see, slide the dress ring in first, then the receptacle...Wish you could give up the smoking my friend...One of the toughest habits to quit, ever, but you can...."YOU ARE STRONGER, THAN THEY ARE"...Remember that, and you have family....Thanks for the video and be well.
Just noticed you have other do it yourself videos. I just commented on the blend door repair in your wife’s suburban👍. I just so happen to watch you install that the “lighter” receptacle was swapped for a power point. So, a cigarette lighter wouldn’t work in that receptacle you installed. The point was you were showing that anyone can change it out? You made it look easy! Personally, no one smokes in either of my personal vehicles. My 1997 GMC Suburban I bought second hand still has brand 5 brand new ashtrays & a never used cigarette lighter. My 2005 Avalanche I bought brand new came with the “smokers package”. It was a similar dash to your Suburban’s. Brand new cup ashtray & never used lighter.
Yes LOL, I bought both parts and started to install the wrong one in the wrong side, then switch out during the filming. That was several years back so my editing skills weren't as good back then... not that they are great now.
I found it easier to gently pull on the flat piece below the outlets and pulled the whole panel out to access the back side of the power ports for removal and installation.
Really appreciate the work you do brother. I just found your channel yesterday ,will use this fix and the window video about replacement of the window switch on my 03 envoy
I appreciate this video but it frustrated me a little bit. My 2000 Silverado has 2 accessories receptacles and one lighter receptacle. I'm having issues with the Cigarette Lighter receptacle. I looked real close to the GM Product number on your package, and it is an accessory receptacle for my truck. The Lighter Receptacle is a different GM number. Any way, I really wish you would've showed how you took the old one out. I understand there's a trick to it, but haven't seen the trick. I'll keep searching. Thanks.
Stick your finger in the socket and slowly turn while giving it a little pull towards you. There is a notch or keyway in the socket and bezel. When they line up it will come out. Look at new socket to see the notch that I am talking about. Thanks for watching.
Doing 2001 Suburban right now...same as your Silverado. I took the entire panel off to access the backside and I still cannot get them off without breaking them. They are a different design than the ones in this video.
I got the same problem today, and I couldn't pull that out, so I used a proper size washer and a silicon center ring and a copper center short pin, and glued the wash, worked great. without buying a new one. reason coused the problem is that contact center point moved back too much.
Stick 2 fingers in it and turn a quarter or so. The housing is notched and the outlet is notched, when they line up it will come out. Look at the new one for reference. Thanks for watching
Won't you get shocked or burned if you don't disconnect the battery before sticking your fingers in there to turn the receptacle to pull it out? Im confused, how are you working on it live? What if your receptacle just needs the center contact pulled but is otherwise live? I didn't see the part where you reconnected the power after installing or before testing the new one.
How do I find the FUSE for my "accessory" [NOT cigarette lighter] plug on a 2004 GMC Sierra - nothing fancy. The ACC plug is on the dash, just right of the driver/steering column & left of the cigarette lighter. I can't find any hereon videos nor does GM's 800# know which fuse it is??? I have searched & searched my fuses & can't find the blown one.
Under the hood, standing on the driver's side looking across; upper mid-way just to the right of center, look for 'AUX PWR' fuse, and lower mid-way, far right of center, look for 'CIG LTR' fuse.
Thanx but the "CIG LTR" is fine & a portable air compressor blew the accessory plug fuse.. I will check the "AUX PWR" - not sure if that's a HUGE block type fuse???
Stick 2 fingers in it and turn a quarter or so. The housing is notched and the outlet is notched, when they line up it will come out. Look at the new one for reference. Thanks for watching
Hey love you Channel watching it a lot was wondering if you might be able to help me out, I have a K5 Blazer 84 I need to know where the wiring goes from the cigarette lighter can't find it on the fuse box does it go directly into the battery?? Is there a separate fuse on that wire,?? Am I going to have to take the whole dash apart, to get to it?? If you could let me know I appreciate it thanks. Just consider me big dummy number 2. 🤣😂👍👍
TJ, the power feed for the lighter does go to the fuse panel eventually. There is no in-line fuse from the factory. To find it you just have to trace it back. It's a real pain in the ass. Easier fix is to run new power with a in-line fuse to the lighter. You can use battery power or ignition power. Both are available at the fuse panel or you can run from battery. I would just tap a constant power of the panel. Thanks for watching.
Hey handy mechanic! I have an 85 Camaro that lost all power to inside lights, Guage lights and horn and radio and cig lighter. I read that the cig lighter can be the blame? I checked all fuses and it seems to be the 5 amp one. Yet when I replace it I still have nothing fixed. Any ideas where I can look please:) thank you!
Axle's Garage well it is not blowing out now. Changed out a 20 am fuse and checked for any other blown fuses. Unhooked the cig socket. Still no lights. All outside lights are fine. Alarm is fine. But no radio, dash or inside lights. Seems very weird. If anyone has any ideas would be great. Thank you! !
Well, that, for me atleast, didn't help much. Taking something apart is quite different from putting back together. And I needed help on "pulling it apart." Making SOME progress though. Now while most of the answers on taking the ashtray assy apart tell you to remove the entire dashboard, and that seemed like "overkill" to me. But I DID find one guy's post, and he tells us to just push down the entire ashtray assembly, then pull it out. And dang! It worked! So it's out, but still stuck on the wires, so I just have to figure out how get the those sockettes out, and then I hope, FIX it!
If you see the special tool advertised under the Blog you will see how to get the old one out. But ya he should have shown. I think he may have done it with some too that released the collar like he did in the video when he mistakenly put the parts together first instead of putting the collar in place first.
No Special tool needed, turn the socket and the collar has a keyway that will line up and let it slide out. A small screwdriver is all that is needed to separate the parts you described in your comment. Funny but if I would have know that this part was going to be the thing people find hardest, I would have filmed it differently. Thanks for Watching.
I completely agree this video is terrible I have tried and tried to get my cigarette lighter to release and it will not come out of that sleeve or whatever it's in and that special tool don't do crap

On the other hand, you men, (no offense) come from work, clean your cars and maybe cut the lawn every so many days. Point is, love the videos, but don't dish out your wife and her messy car, embarrassing her.. My ex did that all the time, and that is why he's my ex. the power outlet and the cigarette lighter are two different parts and you cant use a power outlet for a cigarette lighter since it doesnt have the snap in feature to hold the lighter to the contact and make it work. video is great, just be aware if you want a working cigarette lighter dont use socket # 25774623 as shown in the video unless all you want is a power outlet, if you need the cigarette lighter socket buy gm # 25776667

Does this part work for a 2006 GMC Sierra?

Anybody know what to do if the wire to the cigarette light falls back into the car?
You can pop the bezel off that the lighter plug is contained in, that will give you access to where the wire fell to. Thanks for watching.
Use a wire hanger to dig around for the wire... (Not really!) Pop off the panel like the others said, or maybe see if you can get a view from behind the console (depending on where the wires are) and try to poke it back through.
