    I take pride in having an eclectic collection. Currently in my collection there is a false water cobra, bull snake, African house snake, African file snake, Honduran milk snakes, Mexican black king snake, Florida king snake, California king snake, ball pythons, corn snake, Texas rat snake, woma python, jungle carpet python, boa constrictor, and western hognose. You’ve really helped me out with a lot of these species! Thanks Chaz!

    Couldn't agree more. I've had my boelen's for just over 2 years and my Bredli is arriving tomorrow

    Hi Chaz, I just watched this one again. I would mention two important points: these snakes are voracious feeders, and it's easy to end up with an obese snake. Also, GET THEM ONTO RATS EARLY ON! My jungle carpet HATES rats. I've tried, but have now given up. When I last offered him one, he turned away from it, and when I went into the room on and off for the next couple of hours, he didn't pay me any attention. I fed him some mice later, and there he was, as usual, coming up to the glass! These snakes are intelligent (by snake standards....), and are real fun. My jungle is still a bit flighty, but he has gradually calmed down in the fourteen months that he's been in my care.

    I’ve just adopted a beautiful and tame Jungle x Coastal from the RSPCA and I’ve watched this video about ten times now XD Carpets are my favourites, I can’t get enough. You’re so knowledgable about so much and you’re so interesting to listen to! Keep it up.

    Cheers mate, you helped me decide whether to get a diamond or a carpet first as the next snake, as I was really uncertain. Glad I found your channel and surprised I didn't see it before. Subscribed right away...

    Brilliant channel! I love the fact that you put animals first and business second,so many people on youtube who happened to turn reptile hobby into their business put profit first...Diversity of your topics is spot on, I had my ball python for two years now and was thinking about adopting a snake from RSPCA and I'm not bothered what species it'll be as long as I won't get over my head cause that's how so many reptiles end up abandoned or dead and that's horrible for them and for the hobby, I think here in UK we're very lucky as far as regulations go and we shouldn't take that for granted and that's why educating people is so important! Done right it's a wonderful hobby and I thank you for all your effort and hard work, don't worry about subscribers at the moment, with content like that it's just a matter of time and you'll snowball, "If you build it they will come" :) Just as an idea maybe you can do few tutorials on setups??It's a one thing "telling" how to set up a vivarium and another is "showing"

      Mac D that is certainly something we would consider in the future but at the minute it's the logistics of filming in the active shop. It can be overcome I'm sure but I've just got to work out how thank you for the support really appreciate it

    Thanks for a really good video. I have had a young male JCP for two months, and have watched innumerable UA-cam videos on this species - mostly bad!! My JCP is quite flighty and I haven't managed to handle him, though at the dealer he was easy to handle. He is not at all aggressive, he sometimes goes into a strike posture when approached, but has never attempted to bite. He now feeds voraciously, but he's still a "mouser". I am using Viperkeeper's trick: sewing a mouse onto a rat: it works a treat!

    • @SnakesNAdders
      @SnakesNAdders  7 років тому

      john schlesinger you're lucky most of the baby jungle carpet pythons I come across or aggressive I would say it's definitely in 80% to 20% split. That 80% does not necessarily bite all the time but I have to mention it as a potential risk to would be keepers moving up from a corn snake which is as docile as they come. Certain jungle carpet pythons would come as a definite culture shock if not prepared

    Would a 58x49x92 wooden Viv be big enough for a adult costal carpet python or would a 86x49x92 be better?

    How long would a jungle carpet live comfortably in a pvc enclosure that measures 4 foot long 2 foot wide 15 inches high.
    I'd like to pick one of these up next month at a reptile expo.

    • @SnakesNAdders
      @SnakesNAdders  7 років тому

      beaglegod1 I think in that size enclosure a male would be happy although a bit of extra height would have probably been better and would allow it to climb which would be a bit more naturalistic. As far as volume goes it's ok. Because carpet pythons are confident snakes they lend themselves to being a display species they don't hide away all the time

    In your experience, how difficult is it to move on to rats? I have an axanthic coastal. Do you have a store?

    • @SnakesNAdders
      @SnakesNAdders  7 років тому +3

      Josh Smith our store is based in the UK in Sheffield. Carpet pythons are renowned for being difficult to transition from mice to rats lots and lots of patience required. Others will go easily whilst some Will make you question your will to live

      Try a fresh-killed rat, Some carpets will accept a fresh-killed rat quite readily where they'll turn their noses up at a frozen-thawed. If you use the fresh-killed for a couple of feeds, then a WET fresh-killed (because defrosted animals are usually wet, and it's a different pit-sensation), then, once they're taking the wet fresh-killed, move onto frozen thawed.
      Might save you wanting to slash your wrists in the transition! lol

    Can i house an adult male coastal in a 4x2x3 ft vivarium?

    • @asyoz
      @asyoz 5 років тому

      Yes, although coastal like to climb (as do most Morelia). Is the 3ft height, or depth? If it's height - it's perfect.
      Two pieces of advice: 1: Make sure all your 'branches' or whatever you're giving them to climb on are REALLY well secured, these guys are heavier than you'd think - and stronger! If pulling themselves up from one branch to another they can pull branches down and hurt themselves (I've not seen this happen, but heard of it happening).
      2: Make sure any heat lamps in the top of your setup is really well guarded, or they can wrap around them and get burned. If you have the kind of 'cage' which has a spring on the bottom to keep the bottom of the cage shut, don't rely on the spring, these guys can get that open. We use cable ties to tie the cage bottom on (of the cage around the heat lamp! not the actual cage!). I cut the cable tie 'tail' about half an inch long, then clip the corners off the plastic, so it's not sharp because there's nothing surer than that the snake will be climbing all over it and I don't want them cutting themselves or catching a scale on the sharp corner of the tail of the cable tie. As with any equipment going into an enclosure - I always look at it and think "How could the animal possibly hurt themselves on this" - no matter how far-fetched the answer, I try to fix it so that can't happen.
      Good luck and have fun :)
      PS: Snakes 'n' Adders - I hope you don't mind that I replied...

      @@asyoz thanks and the 3 ft was height. I ways use zipties on my light cages anyway gew yrs ago i had a diamond python open it and she burned herself to death thankfully thats never happened again

    • @asyoz
      @asyoz 5 років тому

      Awesome...
      But sad about your diamond :(
      It is, however, good that her death wasn't in vein and it's not happened again.
      Honestly, I think there should be a warning on the packaging to say that it's dangerous. Might be OK if you have a bearded dragon, but not a snake...

    I'm a bit split on the whole 'beginner, intermediate, advanced species'. Everyone and their dog's mum shouldn't get a Retic as their first snake, but at the same time I don't think it's good for someone to just get a 'practice' snake then discard it when they get the one they really want. I guess it's the lesser of two evils.

    • @SnakesNAdders
      @SnakesNAdders  7 років тому +3

      Kaiju Python you don't have to get rid of it necessarily you may just get another one. Working in a shop we get to see people's mettle when it comes to holding snakes. Invariably there are nerves. Do I think it's appropriate in that kind of situation to sell them a baby carpet python? Personally no. They potentially are going to be made a pincushion out of for 12 months until it calms down.
      Now that said if we had a well researched beginner that didn't give a s*** about being bitten then I would have no problem.
      I suppose we in real time make assessment based on the attitude of the person we are selling the snake to.
      People want an honest opinion we always try to be honest sometimes to the point of being blunt. But we tend to find the honesty is the best policy with reptiles. We're trying to protect people from themselves and the snakes from people that are not equipped to deal with their mood or feeling or requirements.
      There is a variance in difficulty with different snakes. humidity is a variable which adds a level of difficulty as it must be maintained and controlled the same way the thermostat controls the temperature. The less variables the easier the snake.
      Or at least that is our take on it. We are not the law it's just a recommendation
