    YES! 2:00 - 2:08 - alignment from battery forward to keys on the uni-rhythm! Amazing listening and execution!

    I know this is a percussion showcase video, but that hornline!

      But for real. It's hard to focus on anything but that glorious horn line

      Crown is all about their horn line tho. What do you expect.

      i don't think it helps that they've made it fucking impossible to hear the pit whatsoever. why are they mic'd so low?

      they have their shirts on for the video, i went to summer symposium at Western Carolina in 2017 (where the corps stays two days and performs, it’s a really cool experience) and they had to have their shirts on the whole time because they were at a summer camp. in this scenario it’s more because they’re being professionally recorded by Vic Firth. not like being salty or anything, just informing you

    3 reasons
    1.) they reason i think it’s at a high level is because they have control of what they play they aren’t rushing but they are always checking in with each other
    2.) they also keep body pulse all throughout and the keep looking around( good communication) also in one section of the video( 2:20) ( they all looked in one direction and did a prep and all hit that first note it didn’t even feel like multiple people were playing it
    3.) also throughout the whole thing and during the cymbal attacks (2:50) they just look like they enjoy what they are doing they are really enjoying the music and i think that’s at a technical level because you should always have fun while performing
    i picked this video because of the connection that they have, they all look like they worked hard to be at that level and as i said earlier they look like they are enjoying themselves and for me that’s very important to me because most people would perform like it is a burden but with them it seems like the complete opposite

    This is weird but I miss playing vibes in high school (I was going to be vibes this year but they needed a marimba and my chops were the best :( ) and I feel like this is my chance back on vibe but I don’t know if I am even good enough

    Why is there background audio of the show at 5:32

    • @NVHS-DrumsPercussion
      @NVHS-DrumsPercussion 7 років тому +1

      TheGh0s the guard was using audio of the show to rehearse

    • @thisistides97
      @thisistides97 7 років тому +3

      usually vic tries to record from a better angle, but they staged their microphone for this video from that really far away box. this means that, as NVHS percussion pointed out, audio from other fields came over clearly.

    How common is a xylorimba (xylophone with the range of a marimba) in marching band? I've not seen one before.

    • @lilacclouds9438
      @lilacclouds9438 7 років тому

      jabbathehut110
      Is there even any practicality for that tho? Xylophone is meant to be heard so the traditional one makes sense the player would normally play in the higher octave. If there is a xylorimba just widen the keys a tiny bit and you got a Yamaha marimba

    • @soupienips6338
      @soupienips6338 7 років тому +4

      jabbathehut110 I've never seen a xylomarimba. I mean, the largest one I've seen is like a 4 octave but if you mean like a 5 octave xylophone then that's not a thing. I'm sure it could be made though but it's a bit unnecessary. Xylophones usually do 2 mallet stuff and occasional 4 mallet but they are mostly for 2 mallet stuff. Marimbas are probably bigger because they need a bigger range for four mallet stuff. A xylomarimba probably won't be a thing because most marching bands nor drum corps don't need that big of a range for a xylophone.

      Soupie Nips they exist in more concert settings, they’re real just not used in a marching setting

    Thom just can't write front books like Markworth can...

    • @dansullivanstudios
      @dansullivanstudios 8 років тому +5

      LOL. You're literally joking right? Two reason.
      1) Thom didn't write the FE book.
      2) Markworth's books aren't that great.

    • @tanchwa3740
      @tanchwa3740 8 років тому +1

      Lol he might as well have. He puts so much pressure on the writing prosses to make it like "the good old days" of drum corps. Why do you think markworth left?

      +Dan Sullivan it's one of my favorites as far as front ensemble books go. Including the battery. 2009 is what Carolina Crown should have built upon.
