  • This is the introduction video to my channel for my 1989 Chevy Caprice. I'm hoping to document the change as it goes from the 350 5.7L original engine to the new 6.2LS LS376/480 495HP Hot Cammed LS3 engine. I'm leaving everything on the car vintage except the engine, transmission and rear differential. I will definitely put a fresh coat of white paint after i do some small body repairs to the car. No she's not for sale lol

    Sick! I had the exact car all original. Owned it for several years, and kept it that way. Cream condition. Only 67,000 miles when I got it in 2012. It had a newly rebuilt long block 92 Chevy 350 LS Corvette motor with roller cam and lifters, ceramic coated headers, out to 2.5" pipes to 2.5' glass packs with turnouts at the end under the rocker bar. High flow water pump, 24 amp alternator, Edelbrock RPM Performer four barrel intake with a customized bolt pattern adapter plate for the two barrel throttle body (stock). This created a 3/8" racers gap in the top of the manifold. The gap on the top of the intake makes for more bottom and torque and makes a better balance of air on each side of the engine. The EGR system was deleted, the air conditioning system was completely deleted and put a blank pulley where the compressor was. I had replaced the 20,000 volts stock ignition coil with a Summit Racing 151-1 spark ratio at 150,000 volts, 8mm wires, double platinum plugs. This simple upgrade of more air going in, more air going out, and a bigger spark gave me just over one house power per cubic inch.

    How are the exhausts set up? Two mufflers or 2 pipes going through 1 muffler? I’m restoring mine now. I just finished an 83 Diplomat

    Nice find! how can you tell it’s a true 9c1 from the cluster?

    • @89capricewhite
      @89capricewhite  5 років тому

      Yes sir you can tell from the instrument cluster and you can tell from the VIN number. 9C1 I believe on the 6th or 7th digit have number 7 and also on the lid of the trunk there's a label that will have LO5 stating it's the 9c1 😁😀

      This gauge cluster ALSO came with the F41 Sport Suspension option..... which is DIFFERENT than the F40 "heavy-duty" police suspension.

      I just got the LS3 for my 9c1. I'll be taking the motor out of this one probably like in a month. The motor in this one is a descent 350 5.7. I had no problems with it except i'm missing one bolt that keeps the exaust manifold mounted to the block. I drove it halfway across country with no problems. You can take this one or i have another stripped block already cleaned.. you just got to buy the engine rebuild kit for it. that one is also 5.7 350. Both are from 89 9c1 Caprices. Make me an offer and it's yours.

    This one isn't the full police package. It's missing the black rubber flooring and the instrument gauges. It's also missing the green silicone hoses.

      @thegreatecb 5 років тому

      I've owned several of these cars in the past. I know what I'm talking about. They also come with gauges and black rubber floor. Take care, peace.

    OK: it's a "9C1"... which means the "heavy-duty suspension".... which is DIFFERENT than the "F41 Sport Suspension option". Dear Chevy guys, Please learn this!

    • @leasingindustriesllc3554

      @34Packardphaeton
      The 9C1 is a code used by Chevrolet, in reference to a vehicle intended for use as a police car. Considered a fleet vehicle by General Motors, the 9C1 package is considered a Special Equipment Options (SEO) code, as opposed to a Regular Production Order (RPO) code. Both groups of options are found on the production code sticker (which on most modern GM vehicles is located in the glove box).
      Specific modifications and upgrades of each version of the 9C1 option package differs by vehicle platform, though it centers around increased durability and performance. Other parts of the 9C1 package are designed to allow for the fitment of required emergency lighting and equipment. It's more than just about suspension dude..

      Thanks but with the piston rings shot and the head gasket blown and the rear main seal gone, I was already well into a whole engine rebuild... so I decided to get a LS3.. don't worry i got another one in the garage just like it.
