  • When I read that we could eat dinner "inside" a giant Wurlitzer organ I was pretty
    intrigued.
This video tries to show the scale and size of this organ. Hope I did it justice.
We are in Mesa Arizona at the Organ Stop Pizza.

I was there earlier this year and had a great time. They say their organ is equal to the world's largest Wurlitzer theatre organ. It has 4 ranks (keyboards), 83 stops (the colored tab switches) controlling the sound, and over 6000 (!!!) pipes. Once the organist comes out of the pit the first time, he / she requests the audience to submit requests, for which they place little forms on the counter surrounding the pit, and you can request up to 5 songs. Naturally the organist won't know every song requested but they can come pretty close to whatever theatre music we asked for. I asked for St. Louis Blues and for the Fanfare to the William Tell Overture by Rossini (aka The Lone Ranger Theme Song) and both were played. There were some fairly far out requests, and the organist knew most of them. I got a 10" cheese pizza and it only cost (I think) $8.00 which is more than competitive. The place was built around the organ, and is a great place to take your family. My advice: if you're ever going to be near the Phoenix area, take the time to go there. Despite what you've seen or visited in life, you've not seen a place like this.

Sometimes businesses need to let go the grudge against credit card companies and accept cards. I do understand the fees, however they need to do everything possible to rebound business post COVID. Especially since I want this place to be around so I can visit it, the last of it's kind and must not disappear.

There’s one about half the size in Milwaukee called Organ Piper Pizza that’s been open just about as long. Great pizza, great organ and organists to play it and yes, they take credit cards!

The first answer that came to mind when I read this is, "It's not the place where people sit on their phones for half or all of dinner and hardly say a word to each other." It's to bring back the old days and indeed I can think of several restaurants and some in the 90's in the states and other places where a restaurant was built around a Theatre organ. It was INCREDIBLY interactive all around and intrigued the younger generation. Sure, they might have to go downstairs for pizza. The pandemic killed many restaurants and mom-and-pop family businesses- and some restrictions were grossly unnecessary and way overboard. Going back though- indeed restaurants should be like this- interactive and minus the technology. Someone goes to a restaurant only to go to the bar and stare at the TV over a beer when no actual game or the superbowl is on- (from someone who's worked 20 years in the industry)- I'd have to question, "what should they really be doing and are they trying to avoid anything." You don't go to a place like this to stare at a TV- it's basically fun for the whole family and all generations. Even I'm only 42 years old and I'm a firm supporter of any restaurant who brings back face to face interaction and perhaps fun- as in this video- minus any technology at all- phones or TV's. I can think of at least three restaurants who have cell phone jammers installed on the walls. You can't get a signal within 10 feet of the front door or anywhere inside. And by that- many of the younger generation are starting to learn the virtue of the old ways and face to face conversations before technology became an 'expectation' of everyday life. Regards, Nigel
