It’s a shame to lose the torch. Personally, I use a torch a lot. Would you store it in a pouch? Is there a neoprene pouch that is small enough to house it snugly without wasted space? I love, love, love the addition of the powerbank. So useful. When you pare back the tools like this then you are getting close to ‘victorinox card territory’. I don’t know anything that packs as much function into a tiny space as the Swiss have done with those cards. (I think they make a wallet too). It would be interesting to hear the costs of putting these kits together. Especially with shipping and things. I’d love to start making kits as gifts for people, but I’m not sure if I can afford it!
@@JamesBryant-nz1oo A small torch with a pocket clip is pretty unobtrusive in a pocket, especially the ones that use AAA batteries (I consider them superior than the ones with non-removable rechargeable batteries)
Your builds are definitely getting better and better. I think I need to just bite the bullet and start making a pocket rack. And I love those snap grip connectors. Thanks for showing us how small a useful EDC rack can be.

For the wallet card you will need to cut a a piece of plastic that is 2mm thick, to the same size as the min Pocket Rack. This could be PLA, Kydex or just about any other plastic that has a thickness of 2mm. Take it to a local 3D printer or go to www.treatstock.com/my/print-model3d and upload the file to get a quote from printers. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :-)
As always a very thought provoking video. I’ve liked at a few Mini toolkits, none as compact as this. I think I would prefer it to be in a pouch and to use the pockets on the pouch for cards and cash. I definitely need to get one of those slim power banks! I've looked at this a couple of times. It seems you have the lycra pouch just stuck to a piece of ABS or something? This is much more useful than the typical pocket organizer everyone seems to be into. Especially since I'm looking at this thing and it'd remove some friction from my current setup which uses a pouch, but just has things loose inside and depends on the fact that the pouch is small to keep them flat (which means they must be carefully worked out of the pouch one at a time.)
@knghtbrd - The Lycra pouch that I use for these use a very robust 3M adhesive. I've had one of these pouches on the back of my phone for several years. For the pouch in the video, I attached it to a piece of Kydex plastic. I think this might be a good fit for how you carry based on your description. Many thanks for your post.
When using a power bank card, you might consider adding a light source. I have used the Yitee USB Circuit Board Keychain Light in my hurricane kit…came in super handy recently during Milton. It’s dimmable, and as long as it has not been removed from a usb slot, it remembers the previous setting after being turned off. It measures 12mm x 42.5mm.
@PamOrl - Funny you should mention that. I've featured something quite similar to what you are describing in two previous videos. They are small and take up very little room in an EDC kit. @@EarthlingEDC TY - I did not see those! One tip from my hurricane experience: make sure the power bank you use has a “Trickle/low power” setting so you can maximize the time using these usb lights. Many power banks shut off if the draw is too low, forcing you to use these on full power. These usb lights use approx 230mah on high,
One of the things I need with my EDC is a way to carry medication -- one pill that I have to take every afternoon, as well as a spare complete set of daily pills (4 total), and preferably a space for another anti-histamine and a couple of ibuprofen as needed. Any suggestions for good pill containers that work with the rack? I have currently a little 1" square by 1/2" plastic case (from Walgreens) but it's not securely shut and it's rather slippery. It sort of works with the rack...but has fallen out in my pocket/backpack more than once.

I watched another of your videos on this yesterday. The white elastic here looks great! It’s not something I would have thought to try (I’d have defaulted to basic black) but I genuinely love the white.
@laureng7802 - Thanks for sharing that. I like the white as well. I find it much easier to see where the bands are on the Rack when adding items and when removing them. I might even try something brighter lie dayglow green or orange :-) Thanks for your post.

Would a scrap of prototype electronic circuit board serve as an improvised rack? These little phenolic perfboards are inexpensive and are easily cut and drilled with ordinary tools.
That would work. I've actually been thinking about scanning the tools and then 3D printing snap in sections based on those scans for each one. This would eliminate the need for the elastics. Thanks for taking the time to post. It is greatly appreciated.
@dankolar6066 - definitely! - If you check out my earlier videos. I was cutting the racks from Kydex and other plastics. I've also heard that some viewers us old CD / DVD and cut them to size. We also had a viewer in Germany that laser cut one from a thin piece of oak. there are lots of ways to make these :-) Thank you for your post.
@@EarthlingEDCmany tool drawers have foam you can cut out to put the tools in. Even pelican uses pluck foam to build a shape. Oh but your idea just reminded me of those blowmolded tool sets you can snap tools in.

When you said that you had made the pack even smaller, I was kind of hoping that you managed to get your hands on those teeny tiny BGS 115-1 bits, but alas, no. :) This being said, I highly appreciate another superb kit of yours! Some ideas off the top of my head... since you have a flathead in the tin, why not file the flathead handle on the pliers to be more like a prybar? And maybe running a foot or two or tape around the pen could be useful?
@JK-pg2qn - Thanks for your post. I can't imagine getting any smaller than the Steinwhale bits. If anything, I might incorporate some Wiha double sided bits since the Steinwhale bit extender can now accomodate them. Also like your ideas for the additional mods. thanks for sharing them.
maybe some locator magnets in the corners of between to help snapping it together? Could be bad for having credit cards but there's likely also ways to protect against that or just not have cards that are sensitive to magnets. I really really like the idea of putting the wallet onto the battery bank though.
@Nostrite - Not sure if there is a way to not expose the credit cards to a magnetic field if I added magnets, but it's really not a big deal aligning the wallet with the pocket rack. The TNTOR battery bank is a pretty cool mod, it just ads quite a bit of weight if you want to use it with the tools. On it's own though, it actually makes a nice little wallet. Thanks for your post.

@KungFuTweety1 - Thank you for your post. I have an older pair that has lasted for many years. The pair that I had in the video is a newer design, but so far it's worked OK, but I'll keep test it out . Thanks for letting me know.
Well I gave it a shot, results so far are negative and here is why. A good portion of the stuff in your builds would be a redundancy, for example: the flashlight would be a spare because I work at night and keep one in my pocket at all times, I carry a pioneer x for the scissors and cutting so a small vic would also be redundant. So what else do I carry that would fit? There is my contact lens case, lip balm, nail clipper, mini pry tool, duct tape on an old c card, bandaids, a rite in the rain notebook, and a sog powerliter. Well the powerliter doesnt play well on the pocket rack because of the corkscrew on one side and the pocket clip on the opposite so I'll put that in my maxpedition hook and loop pouch, the prybar and nail clipper both have small lanyards on them my big fingers have a better grip, that makes them inconvenient to add to and extract from the pocket rack because the lanyards snag so they go in the pouch as well. The band aids are kept loose to grab fast so there is no tiny bagging them....into the pouch they go. The contact case and lip balm fit nice and i dont usually have to extract them quickly. But the pouch has more room so in it goes. And then there is the notebook that doesn't fit the pocket rack, fits in the pouch, what a surprise. Ok, I think you get my point. I think your pocket rack concept is terrific and can work for a lot of people, just not for me yet. I don't want to add stuff to my daily carry just for the sake of carrying a lot of neat stuff, I'm pretty well kitted out for expected and unexpected circumstances alike so a pouch is a better fit. I went through a little experimentation with pocket pouches a while back and tried a few, the results were to keep the maxpedition hook and loop pouch and turf the rest but the pouch will never be in my pocket, it stays in my work or out and about bag and if I don't have either of those my pocket edc always has enough utility for most situations, i always have a pen and notebook my wallets carry those, always a victorinox sak, always a flashlight. Any how, thanks for bringing the pocket rack to light in the edc community, I'm positively sure that it will make edc easier for a lot of people.

I spend quite a bit of time finding tools that are compact and still actually work as real tools. That does not mean they are right for you. many of the other items you mentioned would definitely fit or could be placed into containers that would fit on a rack. It would be similar to putting a machete into your maxpedition pouch. It's not designed for it. But, if you had a larger rack made for the machete, you could make it work. I know that at one viewer has taken the pocket rack concept and has enlarged it for full size hand tools. The kits I build in my video are designed specifically to work with the pocket rack concept. I look for tools that actually work and fulfill the needs that I run into. What I'm doing with mini kits built on pocket racks is try to keep the kit as compact as possible with small tools that are still highly functional that will all fit onto the 19 square inches of space that are available to me. this allows me to keep it on my person in a jacket pocket, belt pouch or shoulder bag. the lighter and smaller I can get it while keeping the tools as functional as possible, the more likely I am to keep it close, which means I can use without hesitation. I can see that the size measurements are in mm but I seem to have randomly shifted to ounces for the weights for some reason. I wonder if you could just order an electronic pcb with the custom shape already cut.

@KungFuTweety1 - Thank you for your post. I have an older pair that has lasted for many years. The pair that I had in the video is a newer design, but so far it's worked OK, but I'll keep test it out . Thanks for letting me know.
Well I gave it a shot, results so far are negative and here is why.
A good portion of the stuff in your builds would be a redundancy, for example: the flashlight would be a spare because I work at night and keep one in my pocket at all times, I carry a pioneer x for the scissors and cutting so a small vic would also be redundant. So what else do I carry that would fit? There is my contact lens case, lip balm, nail clipper, mini pry tool, duct tape on an old c card, bandaids, a rite in the rain notebook, and a sog powerliter.
Well the powerliter doesnt play well on the pocket rack because of the corkscrew on one side and the pocket clip on the opposite so I'll put that in my maxpedition hook and loop pouch, the prybar and nail clipper both have small lanyards on them my big fingers have a better grip, that makes them inconvenient to add to and extract from the pocket rack because the lanyards snag so they go in the pouch as well.
The band aids are kept loose to grab fast so there is no tiny bagging them....into the pouch they go.
The contact case and lip balm fit nice and i dont usually have to extract them quickly.
But the pouch has more room so in it goes. And then there is the notebook that doesn't fit the pocket rack, fits in the pouch, what a surprise.
Ok, I think you get my point. I think your pocket rack concept is terrific and can work for a lot of people, just not for me yet. I don't want to add stuff to my daily carry just for the sake of carrying a lot of neat stuff, I'm pretty well kitted out for expected and unexpected circumstances alike so a pouch is a better fit.
I went through a little experimentation with pocket pouches a while back and tried a few, the results were to keep the maxpedition hook and loop pouch and turf the rest but the pouch will never be in my pocket, it stays in my work or out and about bag and if I don't have either of those my pocket edc always has enough utility for most situations, i always have a pen and notebook my wallets carry those, always a victorinox sak, always a flashlight.
Any how, thanks for bringing the pocket rack to light in the edc community, I'm positively sure that it will make edc easier for a lot of people.

What I feature in my videos are suggestions that work for me and that you might want to consider using if they fit your needs. I spend quite a bit of time finding tools that are compact and still actually work as real tools. That does not mean they are right for you. many of the other items you mentioned would definitely fit or could be placed into containers that would fit on a rack. It would be similar to putting a machete into your maxpedition pouch. It's not designed for it. But, if you had a larger rack made for the machete, you could make it work. I know that at one viewer has taken the pocket rack concept and has enlarged it for full size hand tools. The kits I build in my video are designed specifically to work with the pocket rack concept. I look for tools that actually work and fulfill the needs that I run into. It's similar to what people are doing with Altoids tins, but the tools are on the outside.

What I'm doing with mini kits built on pocket racks is try to keep the kit as compact as possible with small tools that are still highly functional that will all fit onto the 19 square inches of space that are available to me. this allows me to keep it on my person in a jacket pocket, belt pouch or shoulder bag. the lighter and smaller I can get it while keeping the tools as functional as possible, the more likely I am to keep it close, which means I can use without hesitation. @JamesBryant-nz1oo - Thank you for mentioning this. When I post a video, I usually include a link in the description to a doc that contains info about the items that were featured in the video. I can see that the size measurements are in mm but I seem to have randomly shifted to ounces for the weights for some reason. Google can do the conversion to grams very easily, but I'll attempt to give both in the future. Thanks again for pointing this out..
