Tearing apart a John Deere powertech 9.0l that had a air compressor that seized and snapped the shaft causing the gear to bouncing aroud and damaging gear train.
Warren, there will always be "critics" (also known as arm chair quarterbacks) who will be full of commentary about topics to which they know nothing about. The rest of us tune in to see what your up to, and what your doing in the "real world"** (**not to be confused with reality t.v.). We enjoy the stories, the big steaks you can't finish, the discoveries and the boo boos. If you had a credits page roll after your videos it would just be one name on all the positions that make your videos possible, you. Keep up the good work, thanks for taking the time to share what you can with us, we do appreciate every shot you share. Stay safe, clearly your staying fed (steak you couldn't finish), and we will be here ready, butts in chairs, coffees and or adult beverages in hand ready to watch.. Cheers! and Thanks!
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 I have said it before Warren, there's lots of us who would be honoured to come spend a few days just giving you a hand in the shop.
Warren’s content is legit-he shows what really happens in the field. I have fond memories of working with mechanics around the Austin, Texas, area during the mid ‘80s. I worked for a small dealer of John Deere equipment. I thoroughly enjoyed my job because one part of my responsibility involved testing equipment after the mechanics had repaired whatever was broken- it was a super-fun job for a young feller.
We appreciate anything you can give us. I think most of us realize you are just giving us highlights because as you say, your primary focus is getting the work done. Thanks for bringing us along.
Your camera work is fine. The picture quality is good, the sound is usually fine. i like the talk overs and the driving like you do. This show, and how it's produced, is just a reflection of you, and how you do things. All in all, one of my favorite reality shows.
I agree with John Zukowski, that there are to many armchair know all's who think they know every thing there is to know about everything. Warren you have probably forgotten more than they will ever know. You are the most knowledgeable mechanic I have ever seen. And the way you work alone is amazing. Forget the haters, they are just jealous of your success. They majority of your subscribers and watchers love what you are doing and understand the reasons why you do the things the way you do. Keep the videos coming. Best regards from the UK.
Always enjoy watching your kinds of videos Warren, always entertaining, from showing how it's done to story time, now I'm hungry for a stake since you've said you and your wife and friends had one.
I respect your honesty about the film quality. I completely agree that this is your job with real time lines. I watch your videos just for that real world quality and I dont mind one bit. Keep it up and dont change.
I love watching what I don't have the knowledge and patients to do. never mind the critics that don't have what experience you have in your pinky toe let alone your wide open brain and kick ass work ethic too, my hats off too you and your wife
Simple fact your a real field mech, not some sunday cowboy with a fancy shop who can take a month to pull a crank, you have to get it done and by yesterday. Keep it up your the best.
Young fellow. You have to happy with what and how you do it. People who suggest may be only trying to provide constructive criticism. Rest assured whether you follow their suggestions or not most will continue watching your next offering (warts or not). Your constant commentary is one of the things I really enjoy. It’s like being in a one on one conversation with you.
Warren, Do you have any idea how far away we are in time when a mechanic such as your self is out in the boonies and need a part that is 20 miles away. He calls the Parts store and they put it on a Drone and you get the part in less than an hour.
People are use to UA-camrs doing things just for the purpose of video. Your channel is more like your standing there watching. I love it keep it up and thank you.
I use really small seal driver from my harbor freight bearing race and seal driver kit when I need a blank to press into with a puller like that instead of the bolt you used, keeps it lined up. You are the man, keep on getting it done.
I wouldnt be watching if it was poor quality..all your videos are great. Somehow, while im relaxed, its fun to watch somebody else, dedicated, conscientious, working his fingers to the bone.
I need to ask yourself one question the part time replacing our pennies compared to the whole engine any moving parts in there any gear it would be all replaced even that little small one that you don't seem too worried about taking off
I enjoy what you show. I never worked on this type of equipment before, I drove a semi for 30 yrs. I had three test engines that I blew up from caterpillar over a $2.00 valve clip each time... I learn things I never knew so you do a great job. Funny, I retired from that I'm going back driving I miss it. so do what you do I keep watching. I understand you place advertisings spots in your clips. I have an adblocker so I don't have to see them. I hate AD'S on tv and my youtube. Thanks
"I know this gears got a bad spot" turns it over it's blue from heat. Lmao love watching, keep it up I do ag work myself. Agree when in doubt change it out
Awesome video Mr. Warren. I sure wish I had special tools like that especially the fittings for my 06 6bt....Im having a cold hard start issue and I don't know if it's a weak CP3 or an injector causing a longer than normal cranking time, but once it cranks...no problems the rest of the day. Great video. We thank you.
I have welded bolts on to the gears and then use the otc puller to get them off works good you have heated the gear by welding the bolt on and they come off nice do it on every 13.5l crank gear and others I have seen the injection pump seize up and do the same thing on several 9.0l engines and it’s usually the water pump on the 13.5l great videos
Sure i've said it before but there's nothing wrong with the quality of videos you put up. OK fine, sometimes there's dirt/oil or water on the camera, sometimes it'd be in the way if you got the "best angle" and the sound level isn't always high enough (that's more an issue with my laptop not going loud enough though) but damn, you're doing a job of work here & taking us along with you to watch (not even to help, and sometimes probably get in the way and hinder you slightly) so what more could anyone expect for a one-man outfit? The reason most of us are here is because we enjoy your commentary and take on life, the straight talking and integrity is inspirational to watch & i'd like to think you set an example for younger generations interested in getting into this line of work. Not to mention learning a little about machinery and plant that some of us have never seen or heard of before, the variety of equipment you get to work on is really cool too. Anyway got to go out now, just wanted to retread ground that's been well trodden before & make sure you know you're appreciated by your subscribers as well as your customers.
I remember when I was in your country (a while ago) that the little Datsun Cherry was much favoured by some people for being able to skate over rough dirt roads way faster than heavier (much faster on the flat) American cars that bottomed out all the time, (and cornered like dogs).
Warren: CHANGE THOSE AIR COMPRESSORS! Sorry for shouting, but I have seen air compressors on CAT C-13 Acerts give out and ruin the whole gear train on the front of the engine, and put metal into the pan which gets picked up in the oil pump and ruins it too. What happened is that the bearing at the rear of the air compressor gave out, and let the air compressor crankshaft rock around, ruining the drive gear on the front of the compressor, and then the gear that meshed with, and so on through the whole gear train. Through all this, the compressor continued to build air, so the drivers had no warning that the compressor was bad until the compressor crankshaft beat its way through the compressor housing and and let the engine oil spill out. CAT gave warranties of 800,000 miles on those engines, but the warranty on the air compressors was limited to 500,000 miles. On both trucks (2008 Peterbilts) that I saw had this problem, both had just over 500,000 miles, and the original compressors on them. So CAT was not fooling when they limited the warranty on their compressors. Air compressors are much cheaper and easier to change than the gear train on the front of the engine! CHANGING AIR COMPRESSORS BEFORE THEY BREAK DOWN SHOULD BE A REGULAR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OPERATION. Putting a used compressor on an engine is taking a risk of it breaking down and taking out the gear train on the front of the engine (again). I really like your videos, and look forward to them. Have a great weekend.
I have a set of those posi lock pullers like you used to get that gear off. I used shitty pullers for years and then got them and like everything else wish I made the investment a long time ago. Another great video Warren thanks again

I'm not a snowflake that needs everything "just so." You don't work on a hollywood sound stage. You already keep your viewers in mind every time you turn on the camera. I for one appreciate that, and I'm sure there are tons of fans that feel that way. Don't take "criticism" to heart. I'm sure most criticism is meant to be constructive. Good to see the C.D.T. is still in business. Mega steaks. Ever visit the Diamond Hotel (In Diamond Or) ? If not, take your wife there. Old fashioned 'everybody eats' dinner.
Something I noticed was when you were taking the compressor discharge line off there was still air pressure on it and it kept leaking air for a while after it was taken off. That means there's not a check valve on the air tank where the compressor line is attached, I wonder if that has something to do with why the compressors are failing and over heating? Not letting that air dump off with the air dryer would keep constant pressure on the valves in the compressor. Not entirely sure if it has anything to do with it but just throwing that out there.
Is there an air dryer? There should be a check valve on the tank so it doesn't hold tank pressure against the compressor so the governor can kick the compressor out

What kind of pliers are those to be able to put on fitting and not round them off? I need some for my service truck
Knipex I believe you’re referring to they’re some great pliers
Hey Warren! There are things called "shaft savers". A steel slug that has a center to go between the shaft and puller.
Stop apologising, you do what you do. We should know what your doing, and why the cookie crumbles the way it does sometimes. Keep up the strong work, and how and where you work is appreciated by myself at least.
Warren do what you do we will watch it anyway be safe out there

Millions of engines built and yet the designers still can't figure out how to design a engine mount that allows you to drop the oil pan!
Nothing like a posi lock puller

What does the air compressor run on this harvester?
There's a muncie four speed transmission that is air shifted.
