Hurricane ZETA Rakes Mexico & Mississippi (2020)

- iCyclone's double-header Hurricane Zeta Chase. Footage from two landfalls: on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, and then in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, less than 48 hours later. This one was unique for me, because I rode it out on the front porch of my summer home (and chaserdude headquarters), Hurricane House.
I really wanna finish this year saying “I’m a 2020 survivor” and these people for Mississippi are true 2020 survivors
I'm from gulfport Mississippi right next to bay saint Louis and it was super bad here.
Just as long as it’s not Camille or Katrina destructive, I want South Mississippi to be okay. They’ve been through enough already.
And lousiana- I been through this hurricane. Been 4 days without power
I’m from mobile Alabama. I went through sally and zeta. Zeta had higher winds than sally for me but sally was very very slow and caused my power to be out for 4-5 days
@@Freedomfitr oh dam, ur a survivor too
2020: The year of night landfalls
It was pretty annoying how almost *everything* struck at night this year.
OMG I JUST REALIZED THAT
Hurricane Hanna, Super Typhoon Goni and Hurricane Delta (Louisiana Landfall) all made landfall at daytime
Not pretty much daytime cause the strongest wind when goni made landfall was still night in catanduanes its 4am
@@juliusnepos6013 hanna and delta both had made landfall close to sunset
Btw, you’re the best hurricane chaser on UA-cam. Love the radar and time stamps. They give great perspective. 🌴
Wow, thank you so much! I am really honored. And I'm glad you dig the timestamps. It's a nerdy detail in my videos that the hardcore hurricane nerds appreciate. 🤓👊
@@iCyclone for me it's the pressure. I don't know why but I'm really intrigued in the pressure drops at the eye of the cyclone. Good work Josh and James!
I love 💕 it
@@iCyclone have a merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 2021 and a happy new year too, to your family to mine - sincerely James Gillis
I like the time stamps too gives you a sense of how long it is
Cyclone report Update: Zeta was upgraded from a Category 2 to a 115 MPH Category 3 at Landfall ; )
Tornado chasers: "BACK UP!!! WE'RE GONNA GET HIT!!!"
Hurricane chasers: "Let's sit back and enjoy these 110 mph sustained winds. Then we'll take a bit of a break and do it all over again backwards."
Ha ha! Exactly. :)
That made me laugh 😅
And Josh, respect to you my man! You're doing a wonderful job. Stay safe and keep em coming. 👍
We're from Mississippi. In the night when this occurred, the electricity went out until morning. I enjoyed watching the boisterous gusts of winds coming from Hurricane Zeta; it was a pretty cool, but bizarre experience. In the morning, since we didn't have electricity, I would rake the leaves on our front and backyard. 2020 was definitely one of those years for an active hurricane season.
Thank you for uploading this. Everyone seems like they forgot about Zeta and the havoc it wrecked both Mexico and the US. I live in MS gulf coast and the storm left me w/out power for a week and a half. As Ida is approaching near me again, I hope it won’t become a big storm (as Zeta did get bumped up to a cat 3). As I was sitting in my house, I was telling my husband that there was no way it was only a cat 2 when it made landfall near us. I still have debris in my yard from this storm almost a year ago.
We were lucky in that no one in my county died, and that since it was around Halloween, the air was actually cold after it passed so it was very cool at night w/out power and at least we could sleep normally. Also, all the FEMA in our area was spread thin as Laura and Delta had just hit prior to us. We had no aid from the federal government, but we did get some from our local churches.
This year, I have everything prepared and some extra in case my elderly neighbors need assistance.
I’m from Minnesota so no hurricanes here, but I would love to chase one some time. As a certified storm spotter, with a meteorological background, watching your videos makes me feel like I’m in the middle of the hurricane with you. You are my favorite hurricane spotter! Keep up the amazing work josh!
Aww, thanks so much for the kind words, Jessie. This means so much to me, because that's exactly what I'm trying to capture with these videos-- the experience of being on the ground, in the hurricane. Cool.
Best storm chaser man! Your so brave, many people would just evacuate! When will eta and iota come? Excited for those 2
Thanks so much! I didn't chase ETA or IOTA, so there'll be no videos from those two.
@@iCyclone nooooooo
What a legend
Thanks!
Hey @icyclone have you been hit by debris
Thank you for the footage and thank you for the footage for hurricane Laura! It was eerie to see what we endured while I was hunkered down listening to all hell break loose and it was the scariest night of me life! (I live in Lake Charles btw)
You're welcome, Alexis. I'm glad you got through LAURA in one piece, and I hope life is improving in Lake Charles. You guys got hit hard, and I know the scars run deep.
I hope you all have a nice thanks giving everyone
That is so neat that you live in the gulf coast of Mississippi. My sister lived in Moss Point (near pascagoula) for a while so I know the area. I love your videos by the way.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy my videos. I put a lot of work into them.
Love the radar track footage. Very telling as to what Zeta was bringing...
I really love that you give us time updates too, cuz a lot of ppl don’t do that, ty:)
Thanks so much! I am glad you appreciate the time stamps! I feel the make the video more scientifically useful. :)
@@iCyclone it really does:))
Hi Josh, thank you very much for your great work. I would be so excited about a second season of Hurricane Man. Greetings from a fan in Bavaria. Stay safe and healthy 🍀
Danke, Nadine! Thanks so much for your kind words. I'm glad you like my videos! We are working on getting a deal for Season 2 of "Hurricane Man." *Hopefully* we will shoot during this coming season. :)
I'm grateful for your videos, Josh! 👊
Another great video as always... I guess the hurricanes got sick of you chasing them, so Zeta decided to give you a personal visit. Keep up the good work, and stay safe :)
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! THIS IS ONE OF YOUR BEST ONES YET! GREAT ONE, JOSH!
Edit: I am also VERY excited for Delta.
Wow, thanks very much, Cass. I'm glad you dug it so much. Cool. 👊 P.S. DELTA is coming week after next!
Josh, your work is legendary and i always listen to you when there are storms to track, you are the reason i want to become a professional meteorologist and storm chaser, you have inspired me to choose that as my career. you need to keep up the good work so you can contniue to inspire others just like you inspired me.
Wow, thank you so much. This is the nicest thing I've read all week. I am honored. Thank you. Keep following your dreams.
He has inspired me too.
Wow! Love these videos! You really get into the thick of it all!
Hey, thanks! That's exactly what I try to do.
Simply love your work. Love your vids and love huge storms...because I'm a storm woman too... :)

Good thing 2020 will end, let 2021 be a good year.
My only wish is that you'd have given the date at the start, but otherwise, I couldn't agree more with others here. You're possibly the best hurricane chaser here on UA-cam. We miss Jim Edes. You've earned your shoes, and you clearly love doing this even though it can be quite exhausting.
It felt so strange waking up that morning to a bright, cool, crisp day when only 12 hours prior, all hell was breaking loose
Me encantan tus videos...
I was in that hurricane. I was in Bogalusa, Louisiana at the time and it was crazy. We are fine now but man this storm was strong. In Slidell, their was no power. Here, we only loss water for a day. Be safe man
I'm glad you're OK. It was a decent hurricane.

There's nothing I hate more than night-time hurricanes. Btw, welcome to the Mississippi Coast!
I hate it, too. It's hard to see-- and document-- what's going on. Thanks for making me feel welcome in MS!
Ur really brave man many people evacuate but u don’t ur so strong man I really appreciate for u ur such a brave man
And the porch went, roarrrrr
Great footage! Can't wait to see your videos from the two strongest storms in the basin with eta and iota
Thanks! I didn't chase ETA or IOTA, so I won't be making videos about those two.
Thank You
I came from hurricane man after I binged the whole season and now I'm addicted to watching these videos. Chasing hurricanes is most certainly something I'm gonna do in the near future. Cheers from Seattle.
Ps you know it's a wicked storm when the legendary Josh Morgerman is chasing it!
Ha ha, thanks so much, Caden. I really appreciate that. I'm delighted I've inspired you, and that you dig my videos. Follow your dreams! 👊
OH YEAH
You rode it out about 100 yards from my house 🤪
Oh, hey, neighbor! What street you live on? Hope you got through it OK.
The Night Begins To shine
The one dislike was katrina because she was jealous that she wasnt the spotlight anymore
Katrina's still the benchmark here in Mississippi, but Zeta was a potent little hurricane.
Thank you for all your amazing videos. May I say where you lives looks like a really pretty place to live. Love from the UK 😊😊
This was five weeks ago? It feels like 17 years already.
I bet nowon can chase like josh that double chase is the best i cant believe that he did that that was cool and amazing cher for josh
Thanks so much, Tiffany. :)
The seawall at Bay St. Louis was a long time coming. Hurricane Camille and Katrina both completely scoured out the area under Beach Boulevard, causing it to collapse both times. Since they added the seawall after Katrina, I know it won't happen again. I see you've fallen under the spell of the town and now call it home -- good choice for a hurricane hunter, considering Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian had the highest storm surge ever recorded. I remember Zeta came in and left pretty quickly. For us in New Orleans, it was over before the sun went down. I didn't think it was too bad a storm; nevertheless, we lost power for four days.
appreciate the usage of timestamps in every cut
Hey, thanks! I like including them, because they make the video scientifically useful-- like a chronological document of the event.
It was so weird to me that Zeta seemed much stronger than sally in Mobile. I had more rain during sally but the wind from zeta caught me off guard.
That is really interesting-- and surprising. One theory: SALLY was a smaller cyclone and Mobile was on the left (weaker) side. ZETA was a larger cyclone and Mobile was on the right (stronger) side.
Remind me at the strongest typhoon ever recorded
This was build
Nice man 😎
Most Wild Hurricane Chaser in the world here folks. The best kind of crazy there is. 👊👊👊
Ha ha! Thanks, Brady! 👊

Great job... keep going
Ahhhh, back again. Awesome.
That storm had a creepy vibe going on your front porch. One thing these days recording devices CANNOT communicate is the sound and depth of the wind. If you've never heard the sound of military fighter jets ripping thru the forest at 100mph+, you're missing the true experience. Not recommending anyone, ever stick around to watch a hurricane. But if you are, they are absolutely incredible too witness.

@@iCyclone Haha yeah that’s what I exactly meant. I apologize for the confusion lol.
Please tell me there is another hurricane man coming up. With all these hurricanes there is ton of content for it. And it is so good to get this knowledge out. I don’t think people really get the dangers of hurricanes. I sure didn’t. We never got hit straight on and I never knew the difference. Then hurricane sandy came and well that happened. And I had new found respect for the carnage these things can create. And the amount we get has significantly increased recently. It’s a scary thought if it keeps growing and increasing in number of hurricanes per year. One hurricane can cost around a billion dollars in damage. I mean that’s insane.
Hey, Shelly! We are working on getting Season 2 of Hurricane Man set up-- hopefully for 2021. Thanks for asking about it. :)
Did you chase hurricane Nana and still post
Isaias don’t care about bad footage did you chased Paullatte Bermuda as 90 mph
I chased ISAIAS in South and North Carolina, but I probably won't make a video, because the footage isn't that good. I did not chase NANA or PAULETTE.
