I thought Klaus Nomi gave the defining version of this song and then watched and heard this. Words cannot describe how it effected me. And then, reading the comments, I learned that he has gone.
Oh God! I'm speechless, I can't believe it! I found this stunning version with a fantastic voice and interpretation and now I know he's no longer with us... Honour to him and keep shining🙏🙏❤
I've just been down a real rabbit hole with this song and heard tons of versions. This vocalisation is definitely one of the best. If only, because he makes the words comprehensible. Too many go for form & lose that. Sad he died so young.
Australian countertenor Max Riebl died at the age of 30. The news comes four days after the singer took to Facebook to notify his fans that he has incurable cancer. He said, ” Hundreds of solo shows around the world. Orchestras, Operas, Renaissance ensembles, Evensong, cabaret and theatre. Spectacular venues. Thousands of hours of practice, radio interviews, photoshoots, extraordinary musicians. Hundreds of hours of travel, uncountable pieces learned and sung. Dozens of competitions. Thunderous applause. Silence and contemplation. Recording sessions. Sleepless nights. Hotel rooms. Loneliness. Laughter. After parties. Tension. Freedom. Bach, Monteverdi, Vivaldi and all things contemporary. Airports. Sacrifice. Sets, costumes, suits worn to a thread and stained with sweat. Difficult to quantify. Difficult to comprehend. An intense, unbearable and mesmeric series of experiences and memories. Some of the greatest and most honorable people I have known. You know who you are and I’ll never forget you.” He continued, “To those unaware, I have been diagnosed with an incurable cancer. The fight has been brutal and relentless and current symptoms make performing and touring impossible at this time. Nothing is set in stone, miracles happen, but for now, thank you for your support, your kindness and appreciation. May the music go on and may the musicians of Australia continue in their brave pursuits, against the odds. With Love. Max” (operawire com)
Oh my goodness! what a compelling performance, what a superb voice and beautiful singing. How I wish I had been to a live performance of this artist, and just this week he has passed away. A telling song for him, a funeral elegy.
One can only say that this interpretation is brilliant and unsurpassable. It will teach all generations and lead to a better understanding of classical music.
Wondrous version. Coming here after finding out that this great countertenor passed away a few days ago, 4-30-22, at only 30 years old. He had been fighting inoperable cancer.
@@laurence.MusicAndSights J’ai beaucoup de CD de Klaus Nomi. "The Cold Song" est tellement obsédant.
What power art thou? Who from below Hast made me rise? Unwillingly and slow From beds of everlasting snow! See'st thou not how stiff And wondrous old? Far unfit to bear the bitter cold... I can scarcely move Or draw my breath I can scarcely move Or draw my breath Let me, let me Let me, let me Freeze again... Let me, let me Freeze again to death
Klaus was better due to his background. And my everlasting dévotion to him for 40 years. Yes I am 53...although I agree this singer is the best Cold Song performer seen and heard since 1983
yeah hes stunning if you can reimagine kate bush ...... well theres nothing more to say and ive put him in my top 100 choice for classic fm first or second position along with greta

There are literally dozens of memorable performance of this 17th century masterpiece by Henry Purcell. Klaus Noemi’s perfs are especially poignant because he was dying of AIDS.
the laughs thant came from people are from a crowd that have no culture or wish of that at all! the score goes differently.. for the piano! the voice is wonderfull!
People with such talent should be immortal. R.I.P.
They are as long as we remember them.

I hear it again and again, it is the best version of the cold song, so sorry that he is not with us..

RIP Max Riebl. Purest of singers.

What?? ohh no.
What happened? He had the voice of an angel.
Sadly, Max died of a cancer that was aggressive and incurable.

This is the best performance of The Cold Song since Klaus Nomi, they are both no longer with us.
My feeling as well.
Name of the pianist?

Thanks for giving us his last words, touching..

One of the best performances of this song I’ve heard. Bravo 👏🏻
Best interpreter of this song, and wonderful pianist too.
One can only say that this interpretation is brilliant and unsurpassable. It will teach all generations and lead to a better understanding of classical music.

Like wise

Inimitable.
I love this very weird but very lovely performance…. RIP MAX RIEBL…… Too young and too talented to have left us….
Max is beauty in and out literally and figuratively 🤎✨stunning pianist and performance
Thanx for sharing such wonderful and precious Voice.
Heard a myriad of great versions of this song over time but besides Klaus for me this one hits best. RIP
Max. Requiescat in pace. In un mondo senza dolore.
What power art thou?
Who from below
Hast made me rise?
Unwillingly and slow
From beds of everlasting snow!
See'st thou not how stiff
And wondrous old?
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold...
I can scarcely move
Or draw my breath
I can scarcely move
Or draw my breath
Let me, let me
Let me, let me
Freeze again...
Let me, let me
Freeze again to death
Thank you for the lyrics.
The first time I heard this song, was by the amazing Klaus Nomi. This is just as great.
ESPECTACULAR Max Riebl
Brava. Magistrale e meravigliosa

Also ‘ for no one’ from the Beatles.
Amazing!
Excellent performance, congrats. It's good to know the background of the song.
It is an extract from opera, 350+ years old.
Fantasmagoria RIP Max
Amazing performance.
Beautiful, all the best for the family , friends and relatives...... greetings from Netherlands Utrecht
Très très belle version!!
Very nice!!!! Klaus would approve!
Klaus was better due to his background. And my everlasting dévotion to him for 40 years. Yes I am 53...although I agree this singer is the best Cold Song performer seen and heard since 1983

Exceptional singer and pianist!!
Purcell. I love it.
RIP 🙏🏻
For me, piano sometimes is to present. Should be played more in the background. Singing is wonderful.
Amazing
Maravilhoso!
Qué rico macho. Precioso.
This is the best modern version next to Klaus Nomi and Nannette Schribe.

♥️
Superbe.
I don't think it's disturbing.
piano isnt a good instrument for this. and this isnt a very disturbing rendition! it can be though !
Now singing with the angels
the laughs thant came from people are from a crowd that have no culture or wish of that at all! the score goes differently.. for the piano! the voice is wonderfull!
It would have been funny if when they started clapping at the end if he stood up looked around n said........... what the hell yall lookin at
Wonderful version !!!!! What a pity .......................
I agree with you, Herve . . . 💪
Another version - interesting to compare - ua-cam.com/video/TnkVgKzKPt8/v-deo.html
Very Good . But klaus nomi masterpiece
meh.... Blech!!
This is Klaus Nomi’s song. NO ONE Can perform it like him and NO ONE should try.
It's Purcell's "song". He didn't write it for only Klaus Nomi to sing 300 years later, I'm pretty sure.
Wouldn't it be boring if nobody ever sang it live again? Fantastic performance from both these artists!
Ridiculous.
Klaus Nomis interpretation
is horrible.
Sorry deuxième minute je coupe.
Arrêtez de faire de pâle copie de Nomi .
