@@ReldrikGeo nah I don't think it would have been realistic...first, the us and soviets could (probably) be engaged in a war (which could have been nuclear especially after the cuban missile crisis in 1962) and secondly, the mentality of the people. Religion is a very big thing here and even if Pakistan was captured, there would be countless communal riots and massacres. Eventually it would turn into a civil war. Also the Chinese would be waiting for the right moment to strike again.

@@ReldrikGeoI think we don’t have a choice back then because we are economically exhausted and lacking good diplomacy regarding close ties, cooperation etc. India was not able to counter the pressure from two major superpowers US and Soviet. (The Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation was signed in August 1971; so, India- Soviet Union’s close cooperation was not a thing in this war )India captured significant land in Pakistan, despite having upper hand, Army de-escalated and land was given back.

But in hindsight I think partition of India was ultimately a blessing in disguise imagine the population ratio ( 17 percent Moslems of india + 99 percent moslem of Pakistan and Bangladesh) would have led to the formation of a super Islamic nation and we all know what happens to minorities in moslem countries.

@@ReldrikGeo don't worry they are delusional to the core. Till now none of their prime ministers completed their full term in the office, their military controls everything, and the economy is in the shambles and it's running on foreign given loans but still they think Pakistan is the best country in the world.

@Omnitaku7 No, I'm not. Its true that India is focusing on internal growth, but Pakistan is not and therefore, our focus can be easily distracted by Pakistan and Peace can't be established until Pakistan and Bangladesh focus on their own growth.
