To answer your question about West Virginia gaining statehood, it happened during the Civil War, as the western part of Virginia north of the Mason Dixon Line was against slavery. Since Virginia defected to the Confederate States of America, West Virginia was granted statehood in 1863 as a union state.
To answer your confusion about West Virginia: During the American Civil War, Virginia was one of the southern states that seceded from the Union. However, the 10 western counties of the state disagreed with secession and stayed with the Union, effectively spearated themselves as an indepent territory. So, in 1863, the western were formed into the state of West Virginia and it was admitted to the United States. I know you didn't ask but it's both a fun and interesting hisotrical fact!

If it was only by birth, Funk or Foley for Indiana. If it was growing up there, Flair for Minnesota for sure. Also, it’s borderline criminal Terry Funk didn’t even get an honorable mention for either Indiana or Texas.
Mae is the right choice. Danny Hodge deserves a better acknowledgement though. The collegiate award for best wrestler is literally named after him. @@MrBeardsley Isn't it also kinda weird that the two notable wrestlers both had dancer gimmicks?
Let's go, fellow Mainers!
As someone that lives in Wyoming I appreciate your efforts to include us.
I thought Savage was billed from Sarasota, Florida
This is about where they were born NOT from where they are billed
@@chrisduncan5842 I'm aware of that part, so he definitely wouldn't qualify for Florida. But in the video they say Savage was BILLED from California.
this is cool idea. opens up opportunities for many many nore such compilations
Not even an honorable mention for Heath Slater or Jamie Noble from WV?
I was like "What about Vader or Bobby Lashley" for Colorado before I remembered that they weren't from there, only moving to my beloved Mile-high city as adults
Bobby Lashley moved to Colorado Springs to train for the Olympics
Right! Still bullshit that they picked 2 Cold over Dr Death tho lol
10:25 Really? No mention of Mr. Kennedy? Kennedy?
Not the best of any state
Silas young, Candice Michelle and Hornswoggle
I would argue Ken Kennedy is better than the actual name listed. Even the Crusher would have been a better option as he is still known to this day here in the cheese state.
If PA ain’t Kurt what are we doing
Edit: Steel City baby
Don't Forget Britt Baker D.M.D. She's From There Too.
Yeah but she ain't Kurt. Ain't nothing against her. I ain't Kurt either. @@geeshep4836
@@geeshep4836And Elias
Did you just compare Brit Baker too Kurt Angle?
@@radevthard7565 to be fair, she's closer to Kurt than Elias...
I live in Maine, and S2H is, in fact, part of my family! The more you know, also, I believe he was a firefighter at some point.
Love the concept for this list! Can't wait to see what other offshoots you can do with this! (*hint* Canada *hint*)
That "hello Wyoming" at the start is” I am a fan of Dexter Lumis is billed from Recluse, Wyoming. I don't know if he's actually spent any time there, but if so, I would've picked him over Garett Bishoff Anyways, great idea for a video, lads! I actually lived in Wyoming for ten years! I have desperately searched state archives to see if any wrestling shows even happened there! I saw a map once for the coverage of stampede wrestling, and that map covered the top north of the state, but I’ve never seen anything else besides that. It was truly hard to be a wrestling fan there!
15:20 Boston is called Beantown because of the Puritans who founded the colony. Due to their religious devotion, they didn't work on the Sabbath aka Sundays, "work" including cooking. So they could eat, they made large pots of baked beans, which they kept warm over the hearth, providing food for the weekend. Hence Beantown, a term coined by visitors to the colony
Stone Cold and Taker are the biggest WWE superstars from Hate Texas, but the "worst pro-wrestler" from Texas is definitely Shawn Michaels. I'm just curious why it isn't in alphabetical order or any kind of order lol hate Texas deserves its own 10 best wrestlers video I used to believe that He is from hate Connecticut and had no idea that he is actually from my home state. One of my favorite wrestlers of all time and probably had the best wrestling theme songs IMO. Not being the Miz to face off with Dexter Lumis is literally insane. Who Really Killed ACE
Illinois: Abraham Lincoln has a better record in wrestling. The cruelty of not going in alphabetical order... The absolute State of this video is That "Hello Wyoming" at the start is literally the most acknowledgment Wyoming will get all year. Most of us forget it's there. Same with New Hampshire and Vermont. Fun idea. Do one with European countries next, then Asian countries. We have a lot going on both places. I thought the "extra State" was going to be "Parts Unknown"
The editor of this video absolutely loves that USA flag transition Maryland on DC team on set on live-action Little trivia here Adam: Maine is not the easternmost state, Alaska is technically, because part of the Aleutian Islands (the long chain of Islands that come of Alaska's southwestern edge) is across the International Date Line! Alaska is simultaneously, the northernmost, westernmost, and easternmost state in the Union! This is a cool concept, you should do the UK or Canada next By the end of this video, I thought I’d comment something about the great state of Michigan, but now all I can think of is “Wasn’t expecting Teenage Bottlerocket to get name-dropped in a Cultaholic video” As someone that lives in Wyoming I appreciate your efforts to include us. at 7:54 pm NOW PLAYING Top 10 Monday Night Raw moments: WWE Top 10, April 22, 2024, WWE 65K views 2 hours ago New ...why the fuck would you pick Moolah over Shelton for South Carolina? She literally set Western women's wrestling back half a century. Having the "Fabulous" Moolah on this list and leaving off Scott Hall is just a bit...well, pish. I really disagree with South Carolina with the Fabolous moolah. I could easily make an argument she hurt women wrestling more than help it. HBK lived in Arizona though
Didn’t realize just how stacked Minnesota is
Verne Gagne trained EVERYONE.
Minnesota is super naturally filled with talent for a state its stature for wrestling…and music. Bob Dylan, Prince, The Replacements and a host of others…not bad!
Not to mention it’s the spiritual home of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Minnesota not being Bob Backlund is literally insane.
Stop it! Are you high?

Imagine being Randy freaking Orton and still not being the best in your state. The person who created this list sure deserves praise for the an=mount of research they put in.
Very entertaining and very informative. Appreciate all the effort.
Biggest non-wrestling takeaway: Most state flags are absolutely rubbish!
Tbh I'm kind of surprised there aren't more wrestlers from Alaska. Bars, tough sobs, cold weather forcing indoor congregations

I remember a couple of years ago a bunch of veteran wrestlers were talking on Twitter were talking about wrestling in all 50 states, and several were saying that Wyoming was the only state they were missing because there are so few shows there. I think the state athletic commission is super strict.
Ready To Rumble happened in Wyoming so you’ll always have that
Me, a Wisconsin guy: If they pick anyone but The Crusher.....
Me, Later: Okay.... respect.
I grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and it was Triple H who got me into pro wrestling. I got to meet him in the early 90's when I was in elementary school and he came by the school for a visit (he apparently went to the school when he was young). He was working for WCW at that time as Terra Ryzing, but he introduced me to Pro Wrestling.
No love for Alex Shelly or Chris Sabin for Michigan? The MCMG?
Nice to see Adam's favourite wrestler Lou Thez make this list
The Best of Lists from Cultoholic are always the best, also so unique concepts
More wrestlers from Michigan: Bruiser Brody, Gus Sonnenberg, Allysin Kay, Ruby Soho, Danhausen, the Motor City Machine Guns, Brandi Rhodes, the Shiek, Sabu, Sara Lee (RIP), Dan Severn, George Steele ... and that's giving Lou Thesz to Missouri.
Savage was born in Ohio. But grew up and lived the majority of his prowrestling life in Illinois. Just south of Chicago. The should have been Mox. You could have given Macho Illinois.
It was where you were born in just about every single state
Downer's Grove!
Jeff Hardy should be NC...
Was waiting to hear LA Knight named for Maryland. He's the only person from my hometown to ever achieve anything, but thought he had no chance against Scott Hall. But instead you went with a non-wrestler in Stacy Kiebler???????
As a proud Nebraskan, I'm proud of our pick, and a proud Omahan, I'm even prouder! I"m going to look up some Baron Von Rascki matches, gotta support our local homie :)
I'd been okay with Sting but I'll go with the Baron! GBR
As a Marylander, I understand the Keibler pick; though LA Knight could overtake her fame in a few years time. But shoutout, too, to Gillberg and James Ellsworth.
Don't forget Top Dolla and that sick 4-1-O tattoo!
6:42 - someone seems to have found a way to combine Jim Duggan and AJ Styles into one human being. 😂
At least it wasn't Duggan with the Brooklyn Brawler in his mouth...oh, that was a disturbing thought.
I’ve been working on an article like this for months. Research has been heavy.
I know this list is subjective, but as a native South Carolinian, I'm surprised Big Show wasn't chosen since he has had many accolades over his nearly thirty-year career.
You could've said Macho Man for Illinois. He grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois
15:34 "Oregonian? Oregonite? Oregonese?"
"Oregano."
Mick Foley was born in Bloomington, Indiana, making him a SUBSTANTIALLY better choice for that state than Ultimate Warrior.
So was Terry funk
@@zerothepanda02 didn’t know that. Wow, they really missed the mark on Indiana.
@adammeyer347128 tbf Foley lived a majority of his life in the northeast
I can't speak about funk because I simply don't know
Foley wasn’t even 1 when his family left Indiana and Funk was maybe 2 years old when his family moved to Texas. Still tho I agree better than Warrior.
@@StairwellTheCat it seemed like they moved the goalposts at times. Sometimes it was where they were born, sometimes it was where they were raised. Flair was born in Tennessee I believe, but was raised by his foster parents in Minnesota. Just because he is more known for living in North Carolina doesn’t mean he didn’t grow up elsewhere. If it was only by birth, Funk or Foley for Indiana. If it was growing up there, Flair for Minnesota for sure.
Also, it’s borderline criminal Terry Funk didn’t even get an honorable mention for either Indiana or Texas.
“Let’s travel to the 51st state, shall we?”
Puerto Rico?
“The state of Ric Flair.”
Didn’t see that coming.
This is a fantastic and informative list. Thanks for all the research that went into this.
While I love the concept of this list, Cowboy Bill Watts not even getting a mention in the Oklahoma section seems like a huge snub.
Mae is the right choice. Danny Hodge deserves a better acknowledgement though. The collegiate award for best wrestler is literally named after him. He gave the industry so much credibility as both an accomplished wrestler and boxer. He was a combat sport pioneer and as the NWA Jr heavyweight champion he main evented shows in 5 countries.
Apologies to Ed "Strangler" Lewis, but Wisconsin's pick should've been Da Crusher! The man has a statue in Milwaukee for goodness sake!
I would’ve gone with Fandango for Maine, mostly because he still lives up here and I occasionally bump into him when I’m out and about.
Idaho also produced Sydney Sweeney and Christina Hendricks, so we're doing pretty well out here.
Sydney Sweeney is from Spokane
As a Native Wyomingite, It's not "God Forsaken". That being said, we don't need more people here.
29:30 West Virginia is a separate state because they broke off during the Civil war to stay with the Union while Virginia succeeded and joined the Confederacy.
Stone Cold and Taker are the biggest WWE superstars from Texas, but "Best pro-wrestler" from Texas is definitely Shawn Michaels.
Nope. Dusty was. Shawn did very little for wrestling history in comparison to Dusty.
Best Video you've made in a very long time
Having the "Fabulous" Moolah on this list and leaving off Scott Hall is just a bit...well, pish.
Jim cornet is like that crazy uncle who comes to dinner spouts boardline rascist s**t then goes back to home and entertaines UA-cam with his antics
I am not sure what is more surprising. That you mentioned Teenage Bottlerocket when talking about Wyoming, or that you failed to mention that their logo is worn by Alex Shelley on his ring gear.
Thats so cool that Godfather got Vegas/Nevada.
I’m from Rhode Island and knew Spike was gonna represent ‼️‼️
All i know about wyoming is that one time jack nominated it for the cultaholic hall of fame
