- Welcome aboard the InterRegio 36, or should I say "ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking"? Well, you can experience both with just one ticket. Welcome to the "Airtrain!" This line is the only direct connection between Basel SBB and Zurich Airport and runs hourly in each direction. It also provides an important link to the many stops in between. And here's where the planes come into play: This train has a Swiss Airlines flight number and Swiss Tickets from or to Basel are accepted on the train. There are no flights between Zurich and Basel, which is the reason for this partnership between Swiss and SBB. The same service also exists from/to Lugano and Zurich Airport. Obviously, not only flying passengers are welcome. It is a regular national InterRegio service and everyone with a valid ticket may use it.
Did I mention it is a beautiful morning to fly low across the ground? Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the trip, including a ride through the brand new Bözbergtunnel!

Lovely video! A new route so enjoyed it a lot. I found the section between Brugg and Frick the best and most scenic. At Pratteln and Muttenz the platform seems to be exactly the correct length for the train - you stopped right at the end.
Little fun fact: I live in that area and this train would normally not stop in Möhlin, Pratteln and Muttenz. It does that only once per day in the morning to support the local public transport. So those platforms were originally built for much smaller trains.
Interesting routing: it comes in from the north, goes round in a loop under Zürich, and then heads out to the north-west. There are some impressive gradients on that flyover heading out from Zürich; it must take some skill to control a heavy train on that sharp downgrade coming off it. And the new Bözberg tunnel's finished! I think we ought to have a small celebration.

Wie immer ein beeindruckendes, sehr schönes Video - Bravo und Danke vielmal für die viele Arbeit! Aber eine kleine, gut gemeinte Anregung hätte ich doch noch: in gleicher Richtung einmündende Strecken sollten m.E. mit “Linie aus...” oder “Linie von...” und nicht “Linie NACH” beschriftet sein, wir können ja aus unserer Sicht/Richtung nicht einfach eine Spitzkehre machen und “nach” dorthin fahren - höchstens “von” dort kommen (z.B. bei ca. 24:35 im Bhf Killwangen die Einmündung rechts von Würenlos/Otelfingen her).
Sprachlich wäre das wohl ein bisschen eleganter, für dich als Zuschauer ändert sich dadurch aber garnichts. Die Strecke führt von/nach/aus die angegebene Richtung, egal welches dieser Wörter ich hierfür einsetze. Es geht lediglich darum, eine Zusatzinformation zum Schienennetz zu liefern.

Vielen Dank für das schöne Video mit der Durchfahrt von Zürich HB. Daumen hoch! Ich frage mich nur: Zürich HB hat 15 oberirdische, 8+2 unterirdische Gleise. Stuttgart 21 soll 8 + 2 unterirdische Gleise bekommen. Da kann doch bei der DB was nicht zusammen passen. Gruß Willie.
Die genauen Pläne von Stuttgart 21 kenne ich nicht. Anscheinend sollen die Perrons sehr lange werden und doppelt belegt werden, also zwei Züge auf einem Gleis. Wie gut das dann in der Praxis funktioniert, wird sich herausstellen.

Rail-fan question: I saw some of the bi-levels being powered by what appear to be single cab locomotives (example ~5:35 departing Oerlikon). If I am seeing correctly, are those new? I am used to European locomotive having two cabs. In any case, thank you again.
They are about 30 years old. Since this is a fixed push-pull configuration, they don't need two cabs.

Schönes Video . Ich hab jetzt mal 2 Fragen . ( Begriffe und Fahrweise ) .
1) zum Beispiel im Weinbergtunnel und auch auf der Brücke zwischen Hbf und Altstetten schreibst du DURCHMESSERLINIE . Im Bözbergtunnel die Beschreibung 4 - METER - KORRIDOR GOTTHARD . Was ist der Unterschied ( vereinfacht gesagt ) .
2 ) habt ihr keine einheitliche Regelung zum Fahren ? So etwa von Flughafen nach Hbf fahrt ihr linkes Gleis . Zwischen Altstätten und Dietikon rechts . Nach Dietikon wieder links . 🤔🚈🚆🚇
1. Die Durchmesserlinie ist für Personenzüge und verbindet den Süden und Westen von Zürich mit dem Norden. Somit entfällt der Fahrtrichtungswechsel in der Halle. Der 4-Meter-Korridor ist für Güterzüge mit 4 Metern Eckhöhe (LKW etc), welche von Nord nach Süd oder umgekehrt fahren.
2. Wir haben die einfachste Regelung die man nur haben kann, denn wir dürfen auf fast jedem Gleis fahren, sofern es Platz hat. Rechts gefahren wird zwischen Altstetten und Dietikon seit dem Bau der Durchmesserlinie.

I question that “4 metre tunnel” at 42:00. That doesn’t seem nearly wide enough for double tracks. What am I missing?

Hätte noch eine Frage: Welche Zugbeeinflussung kommt mittlerweile auf dieser Strecke zum Einsatz? EuroZUB/EuroSignum oder ETCS L1LS? Kurz vor Basel kam ja ein ICE 4 entgegen, der wird entweder unter ETCS L1LS oder STM/NTC fahren, oder? Vielen Dank schon einmal!
Das Normalspurnetz ist mit Signum/ZUB und L1LS gleichzeitig ausgerüstet. Welches davon zum Zug kommt, hängt ausschliesslich vom Fahrzeug ab. Die bestehenden Fahrzeuge fahren mit ZUB und Signum, der ICE 4 (und weitere neue Fahrzeuge) mit L1LS.
@@RailwayEmotions Vielen Dank für die Antwort, sehr interessant. Dadurch, dass die Schweizer Züge EuroZUB/Signum nutzen können stört die Abschaltung von ETCS zwischen Singen und Schaffhausen auch nicht, oder? Die SBB müsste ja mit ihren eigenen Sicherungssystemen bis Singen kommen.
Stand jetzt fahren gewöhnliche Schweizer Fahrzeuge mit CH Ausrüstung nach Singen. Was sich mit der Einführung des DB IC2 auf der Strecke ändern wird, weiss ich aber nicht.

Hallo Railway Emotions - wunderschöne Morgenfahrt, zum Glück nicht gegen die Sonne - es ist immer wieder erbaulich durch unser schönes Land zu fahren. Kurz vor Turgi begegnet uns ein BLS-Zug. Bedient die BLS dort eine Linie, bekannt ist mir nicht, dass die BLS soweit nach Osten "vorgedrungen" ist. Das dürfte wohl eine Testfahrt gewesen sein. Die BLS bedient keine Linien in der Region.

Although the IR36 has a flight-number, it still misses an important piece of equipment as being e plane: Seat-belts.
I personally prefer the comfort of a train without the need of seat belts.

A couple of years ago, I wish I had seat belts on a RABe 511 from Chur to Zürich, when a train driver obviously did not confirm a ZUB-121 warning (I saw left hand side in a slight curve a distant signal with signal term #2, 60 km/h) and a couple of seconds later I was experiencing a graceful forced braking. ;-)

IR36 ist vom Airport bis Brugg eine S-Bahn für Zürich,ab Frick eine fürs Fricktal.Die meisten nehmen aus der dem Grossraum Basel das Auto.Früher hielt der Zug in Rheinfelden,Frick,Brugg,Baden.Altstätten.Fahrzeit 65 Minuten.Schade oderSch....Aber SBB entwickelt sich langsam zur ZürcherVerkehrsbetrieb.
Zu „seinen“ schnellsten Zeiten brauchte er 1:14h für Basel - Zürich Flughafen, jetzt 1:27h.
Das Gleiche gilt für den IC1 nach Bern. Hält jetzt auch in Zürich Oerlikon. Dabei gibt es zwischen Zürich Flughafen und Zürich HB schon viele Verbindungen. Und dann wartet er auch noch 11 Minuten im Hauptbahnhof. Früher war der IC1 die Paradestrecke.
@@Luwi75 Das hat auch damit zu tun, dass der IR36 durch die Durchmesserlinie fährt und länger braucht, dadurch das er von Altstetten her, nicht mehr das einspurige Hardturmviadukt in den Käferbergtunnel benutzt
@@petermauderli Wird wohl auch daran liegen, das diese Strecke derart dicht befahren, das er länger halten muss und zusätzlich Stopps einlegen muss, weil durch Änderung sein normales Trasse nicht verfügbar ist. Wenn in Oerlikon eine Unterfahrung des Bahnhofes und den Brüttener Tunnel (Vierspur-Ausbau, zwischen Bassersdorf/Dietlikon und Winterthur) geben würde, wäre die Sache auch wieder ganz anders
Eine Frage habe ich wie lange war der Zug 200m 250m oder 300m würde es schön finden wenn die Zugslänge auch bei den Schnellzügen bekannt wäre falls es möglich ist
An den Bahnsteigen hast du die weissen Tafeln mit den Zahlen. Diese Zahl mit 100 Multipliziert müsste den Halte Punkt der Züge sein. --> Ist dein Zug 300m lang, dann hälst du bei der 3.
Müsste also ein 300m Zug gewesen sein.
(Nur halbwissen, wenn mich jemand Korrigieren und belernen will, gerne ;))

If you live in switzerland you do not need to take the car just jump on a train they go every where.
It's right. That's what I like about Switzerland, is that there are not many cars, and it is not unusual for a bank director to travel by tram. It is pleasant to be in Zurich, not to be compared with any Kiev or Moscow.
