I am legitimately tearing up. The fact that this was an actual thing, was well received, and the only reason it didn't receive approval from the already going-down-the-tubes team was because of most likely Disney Infinity (which is now dead as well, thanks Disney) just makes me want to tear Disney's gaming division apart. Lost count of how many times I flipped off my screen at this... o_O but it was still good to know
Because TTO was paid to keep the servers up unlike TTR who isn't paid and does not even accept donations. Which means, they still have to have a life in order to make money, inevitably making less time for TTR. They are doing their best and continue to improve.
Yes for club penguin which even their fans hate them, honestly if their project super secret is a toontown club penguin they are fine but it looks like it's not, and now infinity is going too, we just hope Disney won't cancel KH, #TTO4KH3
So sad to know that Toontown 2.0 was a real, working thing but was never approved. I really hope someone takes a look at it again sometime in the future-- maybe that's what Jesse Schell is trying to do: Acquire the license of Toontown and Toontown 2.0 and bring it back that way. I would LOVE to see this game brought to life in full. It looks so cool and amazing!
You know, even though the official game was cancelled, why hasn't anyone picked this up in a sort of "spiritual revival" way. Change the name to "ToonTopia" or something, change the assets, but try to keep the same overall vision of an easy-to-access MMO based in a disney-inspired cartoony world.
Smurfette98 They didn't buy it, technically Toontown Rewritten is illegal, not that any of us care. But I mean a sort of modern sequel. Like making this wonderful Toontown 2 idea, and bringing to fruition without the name "Toontown", or any copyrighted material.
Smurfette98 Yes, you can play the prototypes, but they are just that: prototypes. Not the full game. Also I'm fully aware of what TTR is, and I play it as well.
Wonder if it would ever be possible for Disney to simply give up/sell rights to ToonTown online, and allow fully legal fan recreations and sequels to be made. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but if they where simply to take out all the Disney characters, it would be technically a possibility for ToonTown to be a standalone game. Although, honestly I don't know if Disney cares at this point what happens to the game, because TTR has been in production for 2 years now without much difficulty.
You never know. Could be part of the reason they're allowing TTR to live-- keeps interest in the game while they work on the prototype, and as such it's free advertising :P I'd forgive Disney forever if that turns out to be the case. I would not mind going back to a subscription based game either, this game looks like it'd be worth it :)
Do you know how beautiful this game would've been if they finished it? Seeing all new playgrounds and the old ones remodeled. Seeing new and old cogs returning with remodeled textures. Seeing old and maybe new gags returning with more detail. Seeing the brand new city like places in the concept arts. This game would've been amazing and I'm upset it never came to reality :( great video
Felipe Lara was there until the end and I can’t thank him enough. He advocated for Toontown even when Disney had doubts about the game. He really saw something in this game and he tried so hard to get 2.0 up and running. I really admire him.
I've seriously been waiting for someone like you to make videos like this. Easily the most interesting and informative Toontown videos about topics we've been waiting to hear about. Thanks again!
+J Bencivengo Thank you so much, as a kid I always wanted to know about topics like these so being able to fully cover them and reveal them really satisfy me. It's something I didn't think I could be able to achieve.
im surprised that they didn't try to add a toontown style section to disny infinity or even just main toontown charaters to the cast of figures that they had for it (if they had done that so many more people would have brought and played Disney infinity
+Zyklon B Yep, they should have just used all of the funding for Toontown 2.0 instead; at the very least it would given the game a few more years of life, without costing too much loss like Infinity did.
+Mr. Fluffy what's scary is that Disney is thinking of shutting down all Disney video game things but KH, and what they were trying to have us replace it with Club Penguin, but hey we have one Disney mmo that is not rly a Disney mmo being swtor but I doubt people would play since I heard Disney is actively trying to shut it down, due to some money going to bio ware I believe, but hey who knows... All I do want to see is just a cameo of the toons walking around the KH toontown in the Disney castle town trying to fight off heartless cause in honestly heartless + cogs = no fun 4 u
While it's unfortunate that this was discontinued with the incredible potential this game had, it's so intriguing hearing more about the history of this prototype. Thanks for sharing! Also, just out of curiosity, was Toontown 2.0 the official name of this game according to staff? I've never really heard it being called anything else (other than Downtown Toontown) so I'm not sure if that title was produced by fans or not.

Huh..and I'm just hearing about Toontown 2.0 just now, geez, I haven't been staying up to date with the game..AT ALL. Well at least you are here to explain all this stuff, makes it much easier, then going on pages-of-pages of comments, discussion and all that. I love watching your Toontown Mysteries xD
Damn, now I want to play Toontown 2.0. I bet we could make it happen with a Kickstarter campaign, but Disney would have to let go of the IP. Your videos are great. I'm jealous that you almost have more subscribers than me, but they're going to a good cause :P
I have a request about how chairman will be found and when you will meet him. though it might be hard finding clues I hope you can help me loopy I'm glad I subscribed
It makes me really happy to see that 2.0 would of had a rocket ship going to the moon it. The reason for this is because it reminds me of when I was younger I wrote to toontown telling them my idea of putting a rocket ship in.
Thanks for the info about Toontown 2.0, I'm going to add it to my upcoming videos about games that didn't make it to becoming great. And also I'll say that you'll should get all the credit for this info
Don't forget the "Unannouced mmorpg" that appears on resume job requirements on disneys site, along with the list of other games such as "Disney infinity 2.0 + Star wars" and so on back in 2014. Usually an mmorpg game takes anywhere from 2-3 years to 6-8 years to be finished and usually around 2-4 years to be ready to annouce. No word since 2014 has been annouce about the game; so there is hope for something...
+IPsycho Doodle It also reported that Disney infinity lost 140 million dollars. If someone would like to check for another one to support my source please do so. Here my source: toucharcade.com/2016/05/10/disney-infinity-canceled/
james64468 I found this, does this help? www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-10-disney-ceases-publishing-console-games-shutters-infinity Also I hope jesse schell suceeds in getting toontown back, last I heard he was still pushing in 2015 feb 15th and out of every single mmorpg I played since 2000; toontown is the only one that appeals to all ages, has a great filter for swears and is ageless in design. For disney to abandon it would be foolish. Hopefully they decide to bring it back if this news indeed shows infinity dying.
***** Yep I like having more than one source for news. Thanks. Yeah they are foolish for abandon toontown. I do hope Jesse does get toontown. I believe he could make it without the Disney characters. Currently you can play toontown bowling on Disney site but it lags some.
james64468 The news article I linked, I re-read it and it says something about disney interactive oursourcing their games to other companies. This is could have been perfect I love your videos your so specific in giving us Toons these Kind of information. Please continue 2 do them. :) I just really wish this was REAL XD I mean look at Hollywood cogs and space ship cog building,
Disney: We have little money for Toontown and must get rid of it. Worker: Lets make Disney Infinity! Disney: Good idea! Couple years later... Disney: Well Infinity is dead and we have no money left... lets get rid of Club Penguin while we're at it.
can you imagine if the toontown rewritten crew made the original toontown on unity? they could add tons more stuff. lots more 3d models for streets and a ton more content to be added. it would be amazing and a real step forward. im not saying to remove the nostalgic original toontown rewritten but do more like what runescape did, with OSRS. old school toon town and toontown 2.0. geeeeez that would be awesome. all 3d houses and backdrops, with new content and ability to expand the map without limitations of the old engine. that, is something to get excited about.
This is exactly what Toontown SHOULD look like with the better platform to create the game on! What a shame :( it would have been the most beautiful game out there, the aesthetics were soooo good!!! Fuck Disney's gaming industry. I need this game.
Am I the only one that thinks ToonTown 2.0 looks... not bad but, wrong? Like it's great, but it's wrong.. It feels like a PS1 game. I don't know, maybe I'm just stupid.
+Captain Bassist Well I'd just highly take into consideration that it was just a prototype and they weren't even 100% on using unity for the end product.
If only SCELL games could get all rights to ToonTown and revamp it, perhaps call the game ToonTag which was gonna be the original game for it. And since Unity is more common now it would defenetly be nice, maybe make TTR and TT2 have some kind of linked feature maybe have it so it transfers your toon and doodle. I just want the company to grow.
Hey can some one tell me this. Now that the prototype of this game is out in the public, does this mean someone new will hopefully continue to develop it and make it into a full game?
Would you go back to old toontown? I would like to because I felt like it was harder and was a fun place to be in but in ttr, I did lots of stuff and feel like I shouldn't go back,
Now that Club Penguin is over, Disney could get an absolute ass-load of money. It's been Nearly a decade, and Unity is now a well known tool. With TV's and internet ads it'd be a fucking cakewalk. MMOS for younger children are scarce now, used to be a lot more popular and the only ones still up and popular that I know of are Webkinz and Wizard101 (mainly adults anyway), maybe Roblox. This and the fact nearly every child has access to some form of sophisticated technology in their household. So maybe a Toontown character creation app and letting people play for free up to around the end of the second playground with a couple of F2P restrictions here and there (no hqs) to get people to want to sub.
Hi ^-^ ive been offline from toontown for a while more specifically from rewritten not but online, ill be back at it im about a month when i have my computer back... is rewritten going anywhere anytime soon that you know off?
LoopyGoopyG yeah, it seems that TT2 could of been amazing, and maybe Jesse Schell could bring this prototype back to life. We might never be sure though.
i thought you sent out a download link somewhere if so I had a problem about one I found one time i wanted to load it into unity but it didn't load. is the download compiled or is it a source code I can edit?
I wonder if some fans of Toon town would actually bring this game to life I mean the fans made rewritten and corporate Clash so i Don’t see why they couldn’t bring this to life
+The random player Most likely a task system game just like the original, they wanted it to remain on the core aspects of TTO with expansion on some other parts like interactivity.
Honestly, I would have just been fine with Toontown Online staying at all. I mean, Club Penguin got shutdown for a reason as bland as them wanting the app to do better. See, this was the game that they wanted to support over Toontown Online, despite it not even being made by them in the first place! Toontown Online was shutdown simply because they wanted to try and recreate everything, which resulted in everybody arguing and them getting rid of an awesome online game. If we had known what Toontown 2.0 was going to do to Toontown Online, we would have never wanted this at all.
Lost count of how many times I flipped off my screen at this... o_O but it was still good to know
Well, now we can't tear it apart.....
because Toontown Rewritten is out! :D
Toontown Rewritten is okay but it does not have that same feel that TTO had.
Crash The Discord Bandicoot yeah it is more laggy and has less of the tto feel
Because TTO was paid to keep the servers up unlike TTR who isn't paid and does not even accept donations. Which means, they still have to have a life in order to make money, inevitably making less time for TTR. They are doing their best and continue to improve.
If Toontown 2.0 was approved by Disney, then the game could've been able to stay alive for a few more years.
I had no idea that there could have been a TT 2.0. It's a shame they didn't greenlight it.
Garrulous64 wait you play Toontown?!
Oh cool Garrulous64 plays toon town
didnt expect to see you here
Anyone hate Disney for taking down toontown and stopping toontown2.0?
+FishingHobo Mhm.
Yes for club penguin which even their fans hate them, honestly if their project super secret is a toontown club penguin they are fine but it looks like it's not, and now infinity is going too, we just hope Disney won't cancel KH, #TTO4KH3
+FishingHobo No because they would make everything membership only.
Whats KH
Kingdom Hearts (I'm guessing)

+Homsar3 It would help show Disney that there is still interest in a game like this, so that would be awesome to see.
+Homsar3 because they bought the game (dont know the name of the company) and named it tontown rewritten which you can download now
Smurfette98
They didn't buy it, technically Toontown Rewritten is illegal, not that any of us care. But I mean a sort of modern sequel. Like making this wonderful Toontown 2 idea, and bringing to fruition without the name "Toontown", or any copyrighted material.

Who knows really, we'll just have to see if anything happens.
What if TT 2.0 was being worked on after TT shutdown and it's coming back soon? That would be dope as fuck.
You never know. Could be part of the reason they're allowing TTR to live-- keeps interest in the game while they work on the prototype, and as such it's free advertising :P
I'd forgive Disney forever if that turns out to be the case. I would not mind going back to a subscription based game either, this game looks like it'd be worth it :)

guess that was wrong

Does anyone know Funny Quackers? he created something different called TT2
+Dan Banana Yeah, looking forward to it :D
why would they keep the prototype secret if its not coming out?
Brah, the game is closed so the creators decided to spill after its closed

And since Unity is more common now it would defenetly be nice, maybe make TTR and TT2 have some kind of linked feature maybe have it so it transfers your toon and doodle.
I just want the company to grow.
I hope someone finishes the 2.0.
woo my q&a question lol
+cody spencer Does that answer it specifically enough? lol
Yes thank you.
Are you going to release the prototypes when you upload your video of playing them?
+Rockenboom I might but I'll want to talk to the staff members before I do that
im working on a project. tooncity on blender. it might be a new toontown game. so yeah. here's hoping it gets somewhere. probably in 2020.
Hey can some one tell me this. Now that the prototype of this game is out in the public, does this mean someone new will hopefully continue to develop it and make it into a full game?
I've heard that people are!
+LoopyGoopyG yay! This has serious potential
you can still play toontown. they have toontown rewritten and other ones.
ITS NOT 2.0 :,(
We know, but the one Disney was working on (at least what we know) was way better.
steven my man (I think that's your name) you are doing a great job. :D
+Arozify Thank you :D
Omg dude u need to make videos that are like this, videos like this are why i like peoples channels.
+Caleb 2.0 I have more of them planned :)
+LoopyGoopyG haha thanks
that sounds AWESOME!!!
i would donate if disney had a kickstarter to make this game reality !
i wish that toontown 2.0 became a playable game
Would you go back to old toontown? I would like to because I felt like it was harder and was a fun place to be in but in ttr, I did lots of stuff and feel like I shouldn't go back,
+Berry Potter I might've just purely from nostalgia tbh
i would go back
just for the orange pick-a-toon screen and less generic create-a-toon
Awesome vid
+Loud Scooter Thanks Scooter :D
What other mysteries are there you're going to be working on?
+henry adams I like to keep those kinda close to me, but rest assured I have about 4 or 5 ideas at the moment
I hear a +Funny Quackers vibe :)
+Flippert Toontown videos Good luck to them on their work towards their own Toontown 2 game :)
+LoopyGoopyG ikr :) great video btw :D
Thank you :)
Hi ^-^ ive been offline from toontown for a while more specifically from rewritten not but online, ill be back at it im about a month when i have my computer back... is rewritten going anywhere anytime soon that you know off?
and how is the playerbase now
+Oscar Mejia I doubt it's going anywhere soon, it'll be here when you get ready :)
+LoopyGoopyG oh awesome :) thank you!!
You're welcome!
I hope someone ends up emailing any of the creators to ask if they’d have any interest in trying to revive this..
Not unless they got some nice money and a copyright allowance from Disney
LoopyGoopyG
Good point there.
Nice video, but how did you get em' prototypes?
+Elusivegoldendragon Corresponding with previous Toontown Online staff
LoopyGoopyG Cool. I wish I could have them, but that will never happen... right?
+Elusivegoldendragon Dunno yet
LoopyGoopyG yeah, it seems that TT2 could of been amazing, and maybe Jesse Schell could bring this prototype back to life. We might never be sure though.
There's a lot of doors and walls between us and that knowledge unfortunately
i thought you sent out a download link somewhere if so I had a problem about one I found
one time i wanted to load it into unity but it didn't load. is the download compiled or is it a source code I can edit?
ironic that toon town was ended by a higher up executive
do a concept for possible video game based the game for PS4 XBOX ONE 3D PSVITA AND N'S (NINTENDO SWITCH)
Ah, I remember when people thought this was a thing. -including me-
+jmonkey106 Well it was a thing :P
+LoopyGoopyG No like when we thought it would become a reality.
I wonder if some fans of Toon town would actually bring this game to life I mean the fans made rewritten and corporate Clash so i Don’t see why they couldn’t bring this to life
I wonder what tt 2.0 would be a task system game or a mission based game
+The random player Most likely a task system game just like the original, they wanted it to remain on the core aspects of TTO with expansion on some other parts like interactivity.
I have a idea the doodle land thing might have been after you completed the task also
+The random player I MET THE VON I WAS ANTHONY / SONIVMASTER
Nice meeting you!
The only complaint i have about TTR is that it crashes to much for a game thats out of beta
Maybe the owners of TTR might do it
I would’ve played the shit out of toontown 2.0! It had so much potential...
I'm wondering when this game will be released
can you go over the closed sign in acorn acres?
+Manteuro They try to prevent you as much as possible in TTR but people have gone in there before. Nothing's inside it though.
This person was asking if you could do a video on the subject. Like what was meant to be there or what were the plans for that spot. 😂
How exactly are you going to PLAY the prototype???
+SurvivalYoshi It's gonna be a full walkthrough of the prototype the team had put together :)
Oh, okay, thank you! :)
yup yup!
