  • It’s time to answer some questions on how I got into the balloon business and share some advice from the journey so far.
    This is a somewhat impromptu chit chat/Q&A video as my filming schedule got a little affected by Mother Nature. I hope you don’t mind that I grabbed some caffeine, threw my hair up in a messy bun & ran with it!
    In this video I’ll answer the following questions:
    How did you get into balloons in the first place?
    How long have you been doing balloons?
    How did you get started in the balloon business?
    How did you get your first paid balloon job?
    How did you build your client base?
    How many balloons do you have?
    Do you have any advice on picking jobs/clients?
    Do you have any advice for other artists who are starting from scratch?
    And I share my single biggest tip that has kept me sane in this business (so far)!
    Ask me any questions you may have in the comments and I'll try to answer them as best as I can! 👇
    Are there any creations you’d like to see me make next? Let me know!

    I'm just starting my balloon biz and I ALREADY have decided to make it a "freelance", "organic", my interpretation style designing company. I totally agree with you. Love your personality! New subscriber! Thanks for sharing. I love making everything beautiful and I absolutely LOVE to see people celebrating and enjoying the beautiful creations that I have made all around them. It makes my heart happy! However, I am in a business to make a profit - this is not a hobby LOL. I did promotional parties to start, so those clients only paid for the balloons. Afterwards, It's profit, bc this is a lot of work that I love, but it's a business. Taxes, insurance, supplies, time away from my family, so that is being considered as well as my passion for making everybody smile. ;-)

    I loved what you said about not doing recreations as I'm exactly the same. I recently had a client that was dissapointed about not matching the picture she provided even though I told her i needed creative freedom. I offered to give her a refund because it stressed me out so much. In the end it worked out and I did the job but it made me realize I'm a conceptual artist not a literal one

      I do have a video just on pricing in the works, but it'll be a little bit before it's out, so my first advice would be to see what people in your area are charging, what the market can sustain there, and look at whether that could work for you, your time & costs, and your quality of work. (May need to adjust it higher or start off a little lower while you're building your portfolio.)

      Oh that’s awesome! 😊 thanks for being here, watching + commenting! I find using 260s the easiest/fastest but fishing line is great for exactness and tying necks is also a breeze! You’ll find what you like best!

      @@BubblyBalloonCo I cannot lie… I’ve used the neck tying method twice. The very first time, I was wondering how on Earth did you make it look so simple! 😂 But like you say, it makes maneuvering them around much more easier. So I tried a second time and the second time was so much easier because I knew what to expect… had to use finger muscles I didn’t know I had! 😅

    • @BubblyBalloonCo
      @BubblyBalloonCo  Рік тому

      Hahaha! Yessss it takes a new kind of strength! But honestly the brands and types of balloons make a big difference. I’d never do it on metallic (chrome is fine but metallic are so tough)! But like Tuftex and Kalisan are sooooo stretchy it’s a breeze!

    I made my first garland on June 26th, it was definitely a - figure it out as I go- experience... And I'd say at times, really frustrating. One thing that i began to notice was how messy the 260's looked, and how hard it was for me to hide the balloon necks without completing destroying the flow of the balloons that were already in the place I wanted. So, what are your tips for hiding them and how do you fix it when you can't rearrange them?

    • @BubblyBalloonCo
      @BubblyBalloonCo  3 роки тому +2

      Congrats on your first one! That is super relatable. Did you see my first ones? 🙈 It is definitely a learning process.
      I would do a few things. Make sure the "main" clusters are close enough together that the 260s aren't visible in the main build - this is usually done by pressing the clusters and quads together as you're tying them together with 260s or tying the necks together if you go that route. There might be the occasional spot where you can see the neck or 260 through a hole, but you can fill those in with minis later.
      When you are adding in "extras," place them strategically, and use small enough balloons that fit INTO the existing holes rather than add bulk on top of the garland and stand out from it. Use that to hide your 260s or necks that are visible.
      And definitely practicing will help improve that skill & craft, too!
      Every time I see a garland that I really like, I try to break it down visually and figure out how they did it, and learn from it.
      Hope that helps!!!
      XOXO,
      Rach

    I see so many balloon classes starting as low as $300.00 Did you take classes or are you self taught? If you took classes do you think it’s worth it!?

    • @BubblyBalloonCo
      @BubblyBalloonCo  3 роки тому +1

      Hi & good question!
      I actually learned from watching UA-cam videos, and got started that way. At a certain point of growth in my business, I invested in an online class. It was good and definitely gave me more knowledge in the field of balloons, but I almost never use anything I learned in that class (and have never taught anything from it either).
      Personally I prefer what I've learned off of UA-cam, and my own variants on that, but my experience is based off of ONE class of the many that are offered. I may take more as time goes on, there's so much to learn and improve on as we go!!!

      @@BubblyBalloonCo thanks for getting back to me so fast!!! very interesting, my first balloon arch was in June for my daughters grad party, it was in a restaurant and I was very nervous doing it, i wasn’t happy with it at all lol. I did another 2 weeks later for my nieces grad party but this time it was in my sisters back yard and wow let me tell you it came out great
      Everyone loved it, I even had people asking if I had cards to call for there future parties and there friend’s parties. I told them I just did it for fun but maybe I’ll call them and tell them I’ll do it for very little or nothing just to get the ball rolling like you did ☺️ since then I have done a few more, for myself at home lol. I’ve just had such the urge to do them. Sorry for such a long reply but I’m busting outta the seems to talk to someone about it. Also, can you give me some info on the class you are going to take, I also love getting my info on UA-cam but I might be willing to give a class a try. @@Tidapet5 I know what you mean! It can be a total adventure. As far as a class goes, I don't have a specific one to recommend at this point in time, I would say pick one from someone whose work you admire and who seems to be successful at it! • @BubblyBalloonCo
      @BubblyBalloonCo  2 роки тому +1

      Hello! Not sure how to answer that - I had weeks where I made thousands from balloons and weeks where I made nothing. Most weeks it was somewhere in between. So I balanced doing both my 9-5 and balloons (as those were mostly done on weekends, or I'd take off work to do one during the week) for a year or two until I moved to another state & started a UA-cam channel instead.
