Just wanted to thank you for your solution on how to label the swatches! I had my swatches processing but was at a loss as to how to label them given I only thought about it once they were already wet. Trying to keep track of 20 different colours was going to be very challenging! Fortunately your idea of using fabric labels pinned to each swatch saved the day. Thanks again!
Although I haven't made the leap from bleach "fixing" to tie dying, the ice dye swatching really inspired me. Currently I use stained shirts to "bleach" into tie dye patterns. The color splits are artistic and unique - so far your channel is the only place to find this information. I'd love to swatch t-shirts with single or just 2 dyes! Thank you for all the inspiration.
I love discharging fabric to reverse dye. Thanks so much for watching. I have a whole ice dye playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLinLFMViM_WWdK88YwhFEBa2iRWBVLJZ8.html What are you using to discharge or bleach dye?
Thank you! I was trying to find some good searching videos and stumbled on yours. I'm surprised how PINK Amethyst is! Have you done another video with a heavier hand, so you can see how the colors break with more dye? Thank you for adding another 5 to my shopping list! 😂
Thanks for this! I plan making swatches of all my dyes here pretty soon. I was going to buy a yard of white jersey fabric and then do swatches that are half liquid and half ice. I'm actually going to order the gunmetal and shitake right now after seeing them in your video
I’ve watched several of your videos and enjoy them! I love how you made the swatches. This is a great idea, I may try to do this myself! I like truffle brown, indigo blue, silver lining. It’s hard to say which other colors of the ones I have that I like because I did the dying in a chaotic fashion and didn’t keep track of which items got which dyes - I love how you safety pinned them with the color so you could keep track! I’m going to do this next batch of clothing in a more organized fashion so I can keep track.
that's how I was doing it before too! I'm an artist and sometimes being organized is not my first impulse lol! I'm probably going to order some new colors soon. What are your favorite color combinations?
I just did this with some white T-shirts my husband didn’t want. I cut them into fairly equal pieces and wrote on one edge with a fabric sharpie. I get to rinse them out tomorrow.
I live in Minnesota and our winters last forever so I do more snow dying. I use turquoise, yellow and fuchsia reactive dyes for cotton fabric. That way I get a blend of colors. I own more acid dyes for animal fibers because I did more yarn dying in my past. Do you know how long you can keep the dyes before they go bad? I loved your video. Thanks for posting it.
Cool, I haven't tried snow dyeing but it sounds so fun. Do you a lot of knitting with your yarns? I'm not sure how long they last. I have some that are a few years old, and they still work fine.
@@OnyxArtStudios I used to do a lot of knitting with my dyed, hand spun yarn but about 11 years ago I fell into the rabbit hole of quilting and haven't climbed out of the hole yet. That is why I am dying cotton.

I like shiitaki mushroom, black cherry, brushed steel, and Timberwolves just to name a few. That's not including any of the specialty dharma dyes. You might want to look into buying some of those, just a thought. I really enjoyed watching your tutorial so now I'm subscribed😊
Thanks so much! I need to get black cherry and timberwolves in my next haul. Do you also work with ProChem Dyes? They are also pretty good. I just ordered some more of those to try. Might have to make more swatches.
This is so crazy!! I've been researching how to make "color blast" shirts for the longest. Because they're always sold out. I was watching tie dying videos. Then yours popped up, I was like these color as very similar to the "color blast" type of shirts, that I've been researching. Thx ya for teaching me how to make it. I'm bout to build me a station in the the garage. 1 quick question, do have to be a white tee shirt?
Thanks for watching! I like to arrange the swatches together and look at them as a group to get an idea of how they will look together. What's your favorite kind of dyes?
Hi there! Love your videos, they are quite engaging and informative! I'm just wondering if you'd be able to take pics of the swatches and upload them all into a downloadable file? I'd be happy to pay for your hard work and help support your channel! 🥰
@@OnyxArtStudios Thanks for your reply! I have just gotten into dyeing so I haven't even done one tshirt yet, but I've got some Dharma dye yet recently and can't wait to get started! I do like how the colors of the brushed steel split and wished I would have seen that video before I went on my tie dye shopping spree! I'd definitely like to see more videos like that though, such pretty colors and it's quite interesting how one color can produce many colors. Thanks again!

Glad I could help! I just got some new colors from dharma and I’m planning to make a new batch of swatches soon.
I really love this idea! I will have to do that myself!
My favorite dye to ice dye with is Hydrangea and Coral, especially together!
I haven't tried hydrangea- love coral too! I want to try the combo. thanks

Shitake mushroom is a fave of mine. I also love khaki
I need to get khaki in my next dharma order! And Timberwolf I think.
This is great! I just got my first Dharma shipment… I love the swatches and the organization. 👍🏼

Exact job..this helped me sooo much. Now I need to learn how and what to mix (and not to).

Welcome to the channel! You can definitely dye on top of any color shirt.
Those sheets looked like they might have polyester in them. That would definitely affect the dying, wouldn’t it?
Do You have a downloadable file for the dharma dyes like you do for the pro chem one?

About 5”x7”

Thanks! The subtitles are auto generated so sometimes they get it wrong. I will look at it.
Have you ever tried these on denim?
No, I've never done ice dye on denim. I'd love to soon though.
