One of the earliest examples of gun control in a court case was over private citizens owning cannons and in short it was ruled that cannons can’t be fired in the city but the government had no right to determine what’s type of weapon you can and cannot own

2nd amendment:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
As a non-american citizen, I understand very well the first part of this amendment: the "militia" term refers to the police and armies of that country and every other one on Earth, which are needed for the well-being and safety of all populations (in theory). This I can buy.
What I cannot buy is the second half: have American folks forgotten that the verbs "to keep" and "to bear" implies that for each firearm that's owned in the US, there's a sense of Responsibility that befalls on each and every gun owner? What about your cars? After you've passed your driving licenses, you can't just go all shenanigans and drive in every single thing! Same goes for your mobile phones, pets, all kinds of lodging and housing, etc.
Liberty isn't infinite; have you wondered why there were shackles at the feet on the Statue in NY? A very specific verse (I can't remember in which Book that came from, but it stuck into me) said that "The Angel of Liberty was so powerful and voluble that even God himself couldn't control it at all times, so He chained its feet and told it: 'Thou hast done enough turmoil in Paradise, hence those shackles at thy feet will keep you from further disorder; thou may keep the torch in your right hand, but never shalt thou fly again.'"
In short, unrestrained liberty can be more damaging than controlled and tamed liberty; it it was absolute, there would be mass shootings every minute, and the coffins would be more present than actual people in the streets.

It's upsetting that our own President doesn't know the history of our country's founding. He seems to forget that the Constitution was written to PROTECT the rights of U.S. citizens FROM their own government. NOT to limit said citizen's power. The Constitution limits the power of the government, not the power of the citizens.
