  • In today's video I will talk about why I use solar assistant. Solar assistant is an awesome, flexible, and reliable tool for monitoring supported all in one solar inverters. This works great for me, and if you have supported equipment you should consider getting one setup!

Cody, what a beautiful German Shepard, makes me think about my beautiful Timberwolf Shepard that my dad brought home for me when I was in High School!

New subscriber here. I like what I see with solar assistant. I want to have a whole house Solar at some point with displays for those non-engineers in the house. Thanks for the video. All the best!

thanks for the video , very well made. I am planning to use this in a similar configuration , do you know if it would work without internet access? Thanks

It does work without internet and will give you its own wireless network to connect to so you can check statistics.

Hi Cody, I have a question on your setup. I see you have a generator providing 120v to your trailer. Is the generator connected directly to your inverter? I've seen many forum and videos where you need quite a large generator to provide clean AC to an all in one inverter. Thanks.

I built a robust reliable system in 2007 that is still running strong. Never wanted, don't have, and don't need monitoring. Just good old fashioned robust stuff running well within it's ratings. Don't need a system to indicate the periodicc battery replacement, the systwm shows signs in plenty of time.

This system is quite robust and while running needs no interaction from me. I use solar assistant to collect the data and tweak the battery charging rates from my generators depending upon which I’m using. Thanks for watching :)

      Sorry. I'm not a tweaker.

Very interesting. I just don't like that it requires you to have an internet connection. Where I go there is no connections. I wonder why it doesn't just hold all the info locally in the little box? Is there a charge for their website? (I may have missed that while eating breakfast 😁🤑)

Oh it can be used without internet too, i just talked about use with internet because that was a big feature for me! If you don’t have internet you just need to browse to the IP address, and yes the little box does store it all locally! Also if you don’t connect it to your wifi, it just creates its own WiFi network for you to connect and see your data.
No charge for the website use, other than the $50 license for the software itself when you are first setting up.

@@theconnectedcamper Cool, I might have to look into that as I build out my Wolf Pup. To not have to buy the over priced Victron equipment everyone pushes (Because they get commissions) just breaks my heart!

Hard to believe they didn't build any sort of backup mechanism into it. If your SD card gives up, you lose all historic data. No option to export, backup, import data etc. sadly. I will likely move to home assistant because of that.

    • @theconnectedcamper

Agreed 100%, I plan to submit a feature request to back up to a flash drive or send a backup via email.

If your data is precious, should you be running off an sd card? Mine feeds data to homeassistant, but I use it for the totals, current picture, and best of all, the inverter control.
