I was literally just thinking the other day that it’s high time Canada have its own professional women’s soccer league, given how every other powerhouse nation in women’s soccer has one. Glad to see it’s happening and can’t wait to find a team to follow! Cheers from NYC!

Will there be draft for usports players and opportunities for Canadian players playing in usports teams as well?

This is good, but hear me out. Nobody watches the CPL, so what makes you think people are gonna watch this league?

I feel like they should have to join the NWSL.
MLS has managed to develop Canadian players even if there are only three teams in Canada. I do understand that Canadian women don’t exactly have many alternative options if they want to develop but I could have seen it work similarly.
More importantly though on your point, the NWSL at least has broadcasting deals of some sort.

It will be interesting to see how it does. As for the reasons why it could potentially get more eyeballs than the CPL. It has a higher salary cap than the CPL ($1.5 million for NSL and I think about $1.2 million for CPL) and in the global market women players aren't as expensive as men. So NSL can be a stronger league within women's soccer than CPL is within men's soccer. They've also gone a different route in terms of TV/streaming deal. CPL got a deal where they can make some money but it draws fewer eyeballs (OneSoccer) while NSL it appears is likely (not confirmed) making money off of their deal, but they will be on TSN and CBC (CPL had some games on CBC in year 1 as well to be fair) that can give the league more exposure. No doubt TSN will also include highlights on Sportscentre to drive awareness of the league there as well, while they don't do the same for CPL. And lastly, supporting women's sport is en vogue right now, but it's still not all that cool to support Canadian men's soccer (although things have definitely improved over the last few years, or even longer term than that).
Interested to see how things unfold. Hoping for success for NSL and CPL!

She stated that the league made sure not to include WOMEN in the title to make it available to EVERYONE. I would definitely support a pure WOMEN'S LEAGUE.

How will they get paid with no interest, by the government?
