  • You can find a lot of gold fast with a metal detector. But you need more than just luck. Finding your first nugget with a metal detector is tough - being successful takes knowledge and skill. I did this video to impart to you my decades of experience finding gold. This is part 2 of two of a series, so if you want to learn to find gold with a detector, be sure to catch the other part as well. Part one answers the common questions new guys want to know (see it at: • The Complete Training ... ). This second group of 5 topics in part 2 - these are more of things I think you should know to be successful at finding gold. Finding gold is a skill and what you know - the secrets and tips you learn - make a big difference in the amounts of gold you will find. But the work is worth it when you make a big discovery.
    Here are the topics discussed in this video and the links to the full videos I did on them:

    Great Video Chris. I have a Gold Bug 2 and deal with hot rocks all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have a meter, but rather listen to the sound. A gold nugget is a quick blip (mostly faint), while a hot rock has a whinnying echo. Some targets are close to both, and that's when I use the Discrimination mode. Trash is usually hot, loud, and long. I notice that surface target are generally trash. If it's down a few inches the nugget odds seem to increase. However, I have found a steel nut down about 2 ft. Thought for sure it was a nugget. LOL !! Thanks for sharing this wealth of information !

      @ChrisRalph  Рік тому

      Yep - trash is USUALLY nearer to the surface, but not always. I have found some deep trash and it always is a heartbreaker!

    It was meant to be.... I had your book in my "saved for later" cart on Amazon. I would have bought it a few weeks ago, but I spent too much lately and wanted to wait a few weeks. I decided time to buy. This morning my monthly Amazon reward points were applied to my account. I move the book to the cart and checkout, it adds tax and right to the exact penny it matched my reward points available. I'm not one really to believe in coincidences. Thank you for this video, pulling the detector out again with a new set of educated eyes and ears.

    I do a lot of back country travel from four-wheel driving towing my modified off-road teardrop trailer setting up a base camp and going into the backwoods for days I run across streams rivers etc. and I always wonder if there’s gold there but I have zero experience I like the idea of a metal detector I just looked up pricing and I see some for over $8000, I live in Northern California and do a lot of traveling to the wilderness areas every month if not even three times a month but what would be the best metal detector for someone with no experience and where would I go to purchase one I’m old fashion and the kind of guy that has to walk into a store look at it and buy it, I don’t think getting something super cheap would be a good idea because my motivation will make me good at doing it, It’s just a matter of what I call saddle time any recommendation would be great I really enjoy your videos it’s getting me motivated to try this but again I have zero experience I could tell you all about mountaineering backpacking but nothing about finding gold. 👍👍👍👍

      Its a comparatively minor refresh of an older machine. The basic detection circuits have changed very little from the original 1995 design.

    I just went out on my first dig on a Clubs claim in Quartzite. All I found was a lot of .22 shells, some old sardine cans (the old-timers must love sardines) and some modern trash buried 8' under I believe an old push of ground. How I found it was someone dug into the side of this 8' wall of gravel and dirt? I'm not discouraged I'm going back tomorrow just trying to read the Land. I don't think they did a yearly push this year because the website says mother nature did it for them with all the rain? I'm not sure if anything significant was unearthed by this? So if I find a nugget great. I didn't have my hopes up for this year I started really late. It's fun anyway . Oh Another thing I found plenty of were big black flys found me 😮 they were really bad in the desert around the claims? Why I didn't know because back at our camper I haven't seen any all winter.

    small pieces of aluminum foil sound identical to gold. on the gm1000. in the ground.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  Рік тому

      The GM1000 only discriminates between iron and not iron. Not iron includes any metal that isn't iron like aluminum, lead brass and gold.

    All detectors will discriminate.
    You’ve run a detector by sound that’s why headphones are very important!
    Anything you can pick up with the magnet has the north and south pole no matter which direction it is
    Which gives you to fields.
    Gold silver aluminum brass lead only have one field.
    Listen carefully it will sound like you’re going over cattleguard if it’s magnetic swing both ways and listen.
    I already know what you’re going to say what if there’s two nuggets well actually two nuggets or more it’s not good because of derogation of the fields.
    To make it simple they cancel each other out in the more nuggets the more cancellation you get!

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  Рік тому +1

      You dont understand physics. It is not possible to have a one ended electromagnetic field. All objects induced to have a field have a north and south. Yes, targets sound different but the differences depend not just on the metal its made of but the size, shape, depth and many other factors. No, not all detectors will discriminate.
