Trudeau is a joke. That said, we did promise hit the 2% in 7 years. Which is close to doubling our current spend. I get that we need to get to 2%. Not saying we shouldn't. But we can't just double our spending overnight. Its gonna take a few years. 20 years ago 3/4 of the countries in NATO we're not over the 2%. We have increased our spending about 0.5% over that time. So IMO, commiting to 0.8% in 7 years is a pretty big commitment.
It takes Canada 18 months to build a single house...but Germany builds a whole deep sea port in less than 5 - Canada is broken. We have a narcissist Instagram influencer as our leader.

The Canadian Forces hasn’t really been an issue for any government for decades!
