    Most Artist dont see there music as a business. The more ways you can figure out ways to grow a fanbase can bring the money in. Alot of people get stuck on if people will like there music. So they shelf it. FOR YEARS AND YEARS! Thats why im a huge Currensy and Russ fan. Man just put it out and keep going. You dont need a billion fans! Just your fans! That like your music.

    The effect music creates isn't more important than the music itself if its the music that's creating that effect.... but what you guys said about prioritizing the business side holds weight but it can never be more important than the music itself without the music you don't have the business.

    I get your opinion but as an artist i personally feel like it’s not just about business. You have to really spend some time on the creative process in order to come up w projects that resonate with a particular crowd and will sell. Then you figure out the best marketing strategies which is the business process. Artists create art. You said it yourself, music should be your way into business not the other way around. Some artists have that entrepreneurial spirit to breakout into mainstream markets and use their influence to create more revenue streams while other artists are completely fine with staying in their circle and simply creating art. Big fan of the channel love the content💪🏾⚡️

      Yes, we're talking about the music BUSINESS. We're not talking about art. They are not they same. There's art, there's business and there's an art to the business. They are all separate. Where artists struggle is when they get defensive thinking everyone is saying art/creativity doesn't matter. Every one in the industry seems to know they are separate except artists. But the faster than they get that, the quicker they can make a decision on how they want to move/or not and free themselves from that frustration.

    So many gems but 10:34 , I loved that. Developed that mindset over the years, I treat it as another form of expression but overall just another entrance into everything else that is being offered for viewers new/old who’ll eventually be here to stay later on. Fire Take fam

      Apple did an AMAZING job with this when the iPod & iPhones came out.
      When you remember that Apple was once on the brink of bankruptcy as a company at one point, they rebranded themselves by selling tech, through music (iTunes Store)

    “You (artist) are the “show”. 📺
    Now, what “commercials” are happening in between that to monetize the attention that you brought?” 🤔
    That analogy really connected, Sean.
    Taking notes!

    this was a great video. I was just thinking of finally putting music in the backseat, running some other business & dropping music on the side whenever I get a chance. but if I just stop fuckin around I can do this.
    I already have the art capabilities & I have an eye for business, the struggle for me is people. I'm not good at getting into cliques & my reaction to that as a kid was "fuck yall than" so now it seems like a huge barrier.

    Artists who are iconic for their art:
    • Nas
    His investing shit came to the light within the past few years but hes been an icon for Hiphop & rappin forever
    • DMX
    X did movies of course but you could argue he was already DMX.
    • Lil Wayne
    was Wayne an icon before his skateboarding shit & young money? maybe not, arguable
    • Snoop Dogg is a mogul & is absolutely known for his business, but I still think he was an icon for west coast, for weed smokin, before he was ever known for business. As was Dr.Dre but I'll leave him alone because Aftermath did a whole lot for his perception.
    • BIGGIE
    biggie had some business lined up before he died, & he did put out Junior Mafia, but do you ever think of that when you think of big?
    Most of those are arguable because they did do business but I believe they were iconic beforehand. I want to say Tupac but I can't pretend those movies didn't do a lot for him. I'm sure there's others as well.

    Sean & Kohrey idk if you saw my other comment but serious question if you would take a minute to reply would super appreciate.
    I don't have enough traction to attract a team off the strength. should I focus on trying to get personable people to work with me, or focus on becoming more like those people myself?
    my music is cool & I appreciate business, but I'm not good at vaguely connecting with lots of people. few people deeply, but not groups. any advice? thanks.

    • @fatalbook
      @fatalbook 11 місяців тому

      I believe you should attract and engage people deeply 1 person at a time.
      If you don’t have da money for a team ( I’m in da same situation ) , connect with people for who they are ; people.
      The people you connect with have talents and experiences in life that can help you in ways you may not know.
      I also believe you should be focused on building up da skills needed in order to do the work that needs to be done , so you can properly outsource when da time comes.
      People aren’t doing work for free but if you give value to them with your skills and knowledge, you’ll be able to achieve a good payoff.
      Learn how to introduce yourself and others in a way that’s impactful as soon as you speak.
      Learn how to edit videos. Copywriting.
      These things can help other people who are just living their lives day to day.
      God Bless you Jeff

      When you stay true to yourself, all your boys will come. Be big in you spiritual way, dream of a future you want in great detail, and let the universe give you everything. Most importantly, choose wisely, and don't follow someone else's path.

    In reference to your convo around 13:00 mins, regarding a great song inspiring people. Very true, between you and Corey. Their so many good artists, exceptional artists and skilled artists. But either way, the one who make you believe them just from litening to their song alone, is the one were brands, labels, investors, managments actually reach out to see if their is a way they can collaborate and brin that belief; usually related to selling a lifestyle and image, to life. Because their music makes them believe in the picture the artist is paining in their songs. This artist may not be a good artist and not an exceptional one, but because he/she stays true to themselves in and out of their music that it can not just be heard (and it can just be based on hearing the music alone sometimes) but seen. Will attract people to wanting to bring ato life in anyy way they can, while inputing their own vision that can connect the label, brand etc with the artist music. But the majority of artsists aren't beleivable, and are very shallow in their musc. With that, many artist think having the skill is wha makes it a sure thing, nah...Artist dont understand best, were and how to leverage their music.

  • @joanie-music
    @joanie-music 11 місяців тому

    This can go multiple ways... you may have an artist brand that brings people to your music. It's not just your music bringing people to your brand. Back in the early 00's there was an artist who's music was secondary to their brand, in my opinion. I loved their brand (the world they created that the music fit into) and purchased their merch and was a part of their great fan community. I never purchased nor cared to listen to their music. I also loved going to their show. Not because I liked their music ... rather they put on a fun show.
    Let that sink in.
    There's always a market, for anything, if you understand how to present it.

    If these artists were as good at business as this video claims, they wouldn’t need huge teams to keep them afloat and above the rest of the competition…….the truth of the matter is even if you are business savvy, you need connections and for people to accept your vision….or else it just dies in a fire

    Commodification… so music is just to be used to sell something else huh? Chuh 🙄 .. and this is why so much utter trash music is proliferating exponentially. Trash to sell t shirts to make those dollars = the ultimate goal apparently.

    • @BrandmanNetwork
      @BrandmanNetwork  11 місяців тому

      Oversimplification...music hasn't NOTHING to do with sales/money, unless you're talking about the music BUSINESS? Why is it so polarizing that business involves sales. It's understandable when young creatives don't have any knowledge of business and the real world beyond their craft...but anyone over 20 that doesn't get that if you want to LIVE from making your art your BUSINESS involves selling/money is entitled.

    • @yolandacharlesmusic
      @yolandacharlesmusic 11 місяців тому

      @@BrandmanNetwork Cynical mixed messaging… the business of making music vs the branding element. The comment that a great track is greater when its popularity is exploited properly (paraphrasing) is bizarre. Commodifying music - rating it based upon how it’s used to gain sales for other things is so strange.
      A film theatre isn’t built to sell popcorn, popcorn is used to fund the smaller profit margin of showing films. This would be true if the popcorn makers owned the cinema. Thing that bothers me is most branding “experts” divert attention from the art of making music. Advice is so fixated upon money. Branding is important yeah and essential but what and how and also why could be explored.
      Btw anyone who says this or that is “entitled”? Yeah nice (weak) mild attack and incorrect. Every indie has a tough time of it. We’re all trying to find a way to do what we do and make it pay. For some of us there isn’t a “by any means necessary” approach. We’re looking to these experts and advice givers about this. What I see is repetition about selling T-shirts. Great stuff (sarcasm). And yes I sell T-shirts too.
