How to remove a BMW Footwell Module (FRM)

- Footwell module (FRM) failure is a common problem on all E series BMW and MINI cars. The FRM module is a unit that controls all the vehicle’s lights. It is used to send signals to the vehicle’s lights and window functions.
Normally on BMW and Mini vehicles, the FRM will fail when you jump start your vehicle or when the vehicle’s battery goes flat. Symptoms of failed FRM units include:
Headlights do not work
Light switches do not work
Windows are not going up or down
Turn lights / indicators do not work
Parking lights stay on
If you experience any of these symptoms you can send us your BMW or Mini Footwell module (FRM) for a repair.

hello is the PHILLIPS screw that holds the truck RELEASE handle short or longer ???..there are 2 one under the handle...also what is the black plastic thing on bottom LEFt of trim panel it sticks out thank u great video
i disconnected my battery and after reconnecting fried the FRM. Thanks BMW. Is there anything you can do to prevent this? Like pulling a fuse somewhere when working with the battery? Someone said wait 20 minutes before disconnecting the battery and the car is in sleep mode (?).

Disconnecting the battery and then removing the FRM after at least 15 minutes.

Should I leave the battery connected when I change this or should I disconnect the battery?
Hi why does the battery need to be replaced when installing a new FRM?
Hi, I’m going to do this for my sons 1 series and send the unit away for repair. We already have a new battery. Will the car start/run with this removed? Just so we can move it out of our driveway in the meantime. Cheers for the video makes it obvious what is needed!

Not needed. But replace the battery before fitting the new / repaired FRM.

To put the plastic trim back that is removed at 0:06 in the video, you need to have the cream plugs removed, popped into the plastic trim and then reinstall it.
If you do not remove the cream plugs, you won't be able to reinstall the trim
They have to come out
