  • NOTE: In our video, the UDP port is 1234 and it says you can use the top button on the joystick to enter things in. It should be port 1259, and the "enter" button.

Hi! Thanks for the video but I have a question my ptz optics joystick displays a control failure message

      Hello!
When your PTZOptics joystick displays a "control failure" message, it typically indicates a communication issue between the joystick and your PTZOptics camera(s). This can be due to several factors ranging from cable connection problems to incorrect settings.
Here's how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
      1. Check Cable Connections
Ensure that all cables connecting the joystick to the camera are securely plugged in. This includes checking both ends of the cable for any loose connections. If you are using an RS-232 or RS-485 connection, also ensure that the cables are correctly pinned out according to the PTZOptics camera manual specifications.
      2. Verify Compatibility and Settings
Make sure that your joystick is compatible with your PTZOptics camera model and that it's set to control the camera using the correct communication protocol (VISCA, Pelco-D, or Pelco-P) and baud rate. These settings should match those configured on the camera. You can find these settings in both the camera's OSD menu and the joystick's setup menu.
      3. Inspect the Communication Mode
Check if the camera and joystick are set up for the correct mode of communication (RS-232, RS-485, or IP). RS-232 is typically used for direct control of a single camera, RS-485 for daisy-chaining multiple cameras, and IP for network-based control. Ensure that both the joystick and camera(s) are configured for the same mode of communication.
      4. Update Firmware
Check if there are any firmware updates available for both your joystick and PTZOptics camera. An outdated firmware version can sometimes cause compatibility or communication issues. You can find firmware updates and installation instructions on the PTZOptics website.
      5. Reset the Joystick and Camera
Try resetting both the joystick and the camera to their factory default settings. This can sometimes resolve odd communication issues. However, note that you will need to reconfigure your settings after a factory reset, so make sure you have noted down any custom configurations.
      6. Test with Another Camera or Joystick
If possible, test the joystick with another camera or another joystick with the camera. This can help you identify whether the issue lies with the joystick or the camera.
      7. Consult the Manual and Support
Refer to the user manual for your PTZOptics joystick and camera for any troubleshooting tips specific to your model. If the problem persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to PTZOptics support for assistance. They may be able to provide more specific guidance based on the details of your setup.
If you're still encountering issues after going through these steps, it may be a sign of a hardware problem with either the joystick or the camera, in which case professional repair or replacement might be necessary.

Thank you for this video, I was able to connect my PTZ only after watching this video and it had to do with the port number issue. I will recommend that the port number allocation should also be put in the manual for ease.
Amazing work you doing at Optics

I have a question. How can I remove a preset? I am using the same controller so I just need to learn how to remove presets.

Hi Franklin, There is no "one button" to "remove presets". You would just add the new presets to the joystick, and they would overwrite the old ones that you have programed in. Example: You have a preset in preset 1, just re do that preset and assign it to preset 1. It will overwrite the old. You could Factory Default resetting the camera, which will remove all presets. You can do that through the OSD menu. Hope that helps.
