Knives are cool and all, but I believe it's always gonna be better to keep them out of a confrontation. Knife fights are super dangerous, just one wrong move and your attacker is armed instead of you. They'll almost surely escalate any situation. Stick to something like pepper spray to defend yourself! You can disable your pursuer and get away, plus the damage isn't lethal if it backfires (the damage purely from your method of self defense, I mean). Take what I say with a grain of salt, though, since I have never been in a situation where I had to defend myself. I've just been advised by many sources and I truly believe you are safer without prolonging a fight and introducing sharp weapons.
