Air Brush Paint Mixing Tip

I do most of my painting with brushes but do use an air brush from time to time. I have a love/hate relationship with my airbrush! I use an Iwata Revolution CR airbrush and this short video discusses how to be sure you have a good mix to assure that paint will flow through the airbrush properly.

Just found your channel (new subscriber) !! really enjoying it, Im new to carving only about 3 years now, I do mostly fish but I just completed my first duck. I have found using a reducer instead of just water will make the paint flow a lot smoother through the airbrush. Ive used commercial reducer but I started making my own using 91% isopropyl alcohol, distilled water and glycerin. i can make probably 3-4 quarts for what it cost for one 16 oz bottle of commercial and in my opinion it works just as well. I mix a quart at a time and transfer it to a smaller 6 ox drip bottle. it also works well as a cleaner between colors. for 1 quart i use 1 part alcohol to 3 parts distilled water and about 30 drops of glycerin.

Danny, How do you come up with the amounts for 1 qt?

@@brianrosisnki1328 at first I was only mixing 16 oz at a time. It doesn’t have to be exact measurements. But for a quart I Just divide a quart jar into 3rds then add the glycerin.

You are welcome! I got that light a while ago and I looked and there is no brand info. on it. I use two drafting table lights. The white one is LED and you can find similar ones on Amazon if you search for drafting table lights. The black one is even older and has a fluorescent perimeter bulb and a warmer center bulb. I like the combination of lights to cover the cool and warmer light values when I paint. Hope that helps. Nothing really special. They are both drafting table lights that give me good lighting for painting.
