She was the coolest girl on the planet back then and still is today !
My favourite record as a kid simply loved this i was 17 at the time
Combining Jamaican ska with punk to create 2 tone, was brilliant with bands such The Selector, Madness, The Specials, The Beat and many more.
It wasn't a combination, it was a revival of ska: the second wave.
@@peztopher7297it Is ska mixed with punk when ska came to UK
RIP Gaps ♥🔥
i hardly understand the lyrics but damn the song overall is so catchy!
UK music punching hard 👌🏼
Now this is real Coventry City of Culture 2021 nostalgia. Pauline Black is still a great Coventry ambassador 😁
Saw them at N. Staffs Poly in Oct 1979. Good group. Sorry to hear that Gaps Hendrickson has passed on.
Top of the Pops was just perfect for 2 tone music and vise versa
Brilliant band, full of energy, love them.
Aah, for the days when we didn't give a toss what colour you were - music was music!
Love this song, takes me back a few years!! 😂
Fabulous tune, I just wish I'd spent my pocket money a bit more wisely collecting their 45s.
Ive got my 45s the beat the specials selecter and a few exceteras nice 🐾🐾🐾 very crackely but still shiney
May not believe me but David Amanor wilks is my uncle
Fucking love this song.
Superb
😊😊😊😊
The close-ups at 45 to 51, & then also at 1:57, I watched an interview with Neol Davies. Before they performed Neol Davies had noted all the camera positions & their likely movements. They then made sure that at all the most likely moments they were both seen together, ie white man & black man. They wanted to send out a powerful message to 1979 racist Britain.
It worked perfectly as they had very carefully planned & choreographered.
Joe Strummer declared The Clash as the only Band that mattered but really 2 of the most important Bands in Britain were "The Selecter" & "The Specials".
Charley Anderson lives in bogota but still comes over here to do concerts.
Wicked
Cool sound
🏁🆙
God, I thought Pauline Black was gorgeous.
The stage isn’t big enough for their energy! The adoption of punk stylings to traditional ska really sets the Selecter and the Specials apart from the rest.
I remember when my nan (Who lived in London.) explained to me (Who lived in Devon.) about skinheads when they were around. She said these lads shaved their heads. I was very young and I thought she meant they shaved the skin off their heads. I was terrified by the thought of these bloody ghoul faced monsters. lol
Are Selector from Coventry like Specials?
Yes
11 I was
