So used to seing this all pristine and freshly painted that the state of the dashboard was a bit of a shock. Shows how far you've come from where it started. Amazing.
you'd be amazed at the amount of tanks that look pristine outside are utter rust buckets inside, even a lot of the tanks at the tank museum are essentially painted shells
Just an FYI.....the mechanical water temperature gauge has a capillary tube with a small amount of diethyl ether connected to a Bourdon tube and encased in a dashboard gauge housing. When the tube is cut, it looses the fluid from the capillary tube. Thanks for the videos love watching you guys get the old stuff running and working again. Say hi to Ted .
National motor Museum here you’re so lucky with the tanks we’re currently rebuilding 1000 hp Sunbeam land speed car and there is no plans. No nothing so we consider you lucky. Best Of luck, the Workshops
The FV4005 started up nicely. My 16-year-old RAV4 just flew through its MOT, and I picked up a couple of your Tee's for my birthday on the 18th...... Happy days all round.
I'm really enjoying Joe's slow journey towards 'proper practice ' for UA-cam with the relevant safety gear and professionalism...with a wry smile that us long-term watchers get 😊 You did very well guys considering Ted wasn't overseeing things! Side note: Where was our obligatory "IS IT RUNNING"? Stellar work chaps and chapess!🙏
You mean the inevitable loss of the channel's character? No more foul language, snarky political comments, safety-over-work, entertainment-over-work, clickbait, merch crap etc. No there by a long shot, but the creep is indeed there.
Thank you for timing this video so well! I've just done my first gcse exam and am on my way home on even better spirits now! The engine is sounding amazing!
The fuel pump is the fuel pump, the jerrycan provides a bigger head than an internal tank, we'll see how it runs later but I reckon the idle is weak, it runs fine on the main jet when revved and that needs a lot more fuel than idle. . . . . . . . . . I think the idle needle screws need a tweak. We'll see.
Can't wait to see the finished vehicle.Brings back lots of memories as it was outside the tank museum when I joined the Royal Armoured Corps Junior Leaders Regiment across the road from the museum.1979.
Engine sounded fantastic , always a worrying time for first start ups , lovely to see all the fresh clean engine bay , you could emagine how exciting it was when it was first built brand new !
You are quite correct about the connection to the temperature gauge because they are basically capillary. You do realise that Jaeger gauges were made by Smiths as well? Well done with restoration so far!
Cheeky first start without the exhaust on! I’ve done exactly the same thing! Albeit I don’t have anything with a tank engine - you’re a man after my own heart!
Great progress for both vehicles. It is only when you see some of the old bits like the dashboard you realise how much work you guys have completed. Keeps us all looking forward to the next adventure!
You guys have the best, most interesting job. Must be great to have a working environment where every day brings something new. New experiences, new challenges and new rewards. What’s the old saying, do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. 👍🏻
"Bless you", after a sneeze used to have more significance than today. In paganism it was important to bless the person who had just expelled an evil spirit before they took their next breath and re-inhaled it. Lots of carry-overs into modern religion from these ancient times, another example being the presence of yew trees in Christian cemeteries
@@willtricks9432 Lots of modern habits have ancient roots. The ewes were believed to ward off evil spirits. The 25th December was (and is) the date for the pagan ceremony of Saturnalia. The birth date of Christ was specified by, "The church" to coincide with this (widely thought actually to be somewhere in May by many researchers, even of the time) in order to filter pagans into Christianity by an osmotic process associated with this overlap. p.s. I am not a pagan. p.p.s. I have a fund of this kind of stuff, another example being the origin of why something might be called, "A devil of a job". Look it up and follow me into the bottomless pit of useless information, or, if you are afraid to put your toe in the water, I will explain it to you, though cannot promise a bedtime story.
@@razzo15 You are most welcome. Another you might find interesting is the decision to celebrate the birth if Christ on 25th December. This was already the date for the major Pagan festival of Saturnalia. The conjunction of the 2 festivals migrated, by a process of assimilation and indoctrination, many Pagans to Christianity. Ain't religion great?
Brillaint. This is really coming along and you are all restoring a great piece of history. Impressive how the RHS(?) air filer housing lid popped on a small backfire. The engine sounded very good as did the birdsong in the later, quieter part. Watched a Tank Museum vid the other day and they fitted a new, smaller fuel tank inside an original to keep the old shape and newer functionality. Be interested to see what you do here. Lots to do and when the turret goes on will be very special. Great video. Thanks!!
You will no doubt be pleased to know that the old Smiths Industries factory in Basingstoke is now a Costa Coffee shop, a Greggs, a Nando's, Smyths Toys, a Food warehouse (Iceland), a Currys, an Aldi, and Wren kitchens. Don't park in the little car park outside Costa, Greggs and Nandos, because you only get 30 minutes, and if there is more than one of you, you will time out and get a ticket!
You should see if the museum will allow you to fit an indiscreet small brass plate stating that it was restored on this date, by you. History will find that interesting in 100 years when it gets another restoration.
Those bourden tube gauges are repairable by many companies, even smiths - I'm in the states and know a couple of companies that refit them. Even money there's someone that can work them on your side of the big water.
Looking and sounding great , nice job and great video as always . And as for the spilt oil , in true military style as when we used to take some of our Fire Engines to Air shows or shows ( of the vehicle variety ) . Some of our Fire Engines were painted in IRR green to go in the field ....so the big fire engine wasn't seen !!! or the noisy Harriers taking off in the woods !!! . Anyway as every thing in the Military has to shine , we used to brush diesel or oil on the IRR green to make it shine ? . Yes can you believe it and yes on VIP visits I have painted dead grass green !!!! . The MOD became broke because of the amount of paint that was used in making things look nice for VIP's we never saw . Military Madness .
Rolling along very nicely gentlemen. Love the sound of the RR V12. Test drive will be nice to see when you get there. Fitting the gun will be something to see.
There is a fluid that expands when it gets hot in the temp sensor end it expands through the associated pipework and straightens a coiled tube in the temp gauge that shows a reading. Any leaks it’s shot. Careful with tubing it’s easily damaged folded or broken. Used to change this type of coolant sender on some older Leyland Trucks.
So cool to to hear it run. You guys have done an amazing job and should be very proud of yourselves. Just top notch work. Can't wait for the video on the track installation. Keep safe and mind your backs with the heavy shit.
Nothing as sweet sounding as a RRV12 some tuning and tweeking is due but she's a runner ,if that's the first time you changed the final drive oil it didn't look that bad little by week by it's coming alive well done mate
So, did the temperature probe add a bit of flavor to your tea? Brilliant first start, well done . If Jack watches this video, he will know that you spilled some oil, so make sure you get it cleaned up before hand. The turret is big enough for an overnight sleep out. Cheers.
It`s not a wire on that gauge, its a capilliary tube containing fluid which expands with a rise in temperature. This expansion causes a bourdon tube in the gauge to move the needle.
