Open the new series with this scene, a flashback to this episode of TWW. Then fast-forward to present day and Sam Seaborn wins the election. Aron Sorkin left himself a window to bring this show back with this (3x14 "Hartsfield's Landing"). Just give Rob Lowe a boat load of cash and DO IT!!!!!
It's a reboot that totally makes sense to me using that line you mentioned. I really hope they do it.
Rob Lowe got the boot because of restructuring of the series and money. It definitely was not because he could not rise to the caliber of acting one expected on TWW. His performance as Sam Seaborn was brilliant.
Sorken and Row Lowe don’t get along, so that’s an unlikely format

It would not work today. Even with the superb writing and acting, it took a little bit of optimism and idealism for the characters to be wholly believable. I think the last two years in the real US political universe have destroyed that idealism in way too many people to be able to get away with it today.
agree 100%. TWW was a bit of a fairy land where even flaws were depicted as strenghts, and I say it with the utmost respect and love for the show, actors and characters. It just wouldnt work in the current tv climate

Santos as VP? That would be a cool ticket I'd vote for.
Josh would not work under Sam. He would probably be working on campaigns, not in the White House.

Josh was Chief of Staff when the show ended.
I finally broke down and bought all 7 seasons on DVD. What an amazing show and what talented actors! It's very unusual to find such a quality television show that doesn't insult your intelligence.
There is no way to increase the intelligence of television. I sold mine. It didn't work right. The "brightness" button didn't make anybody any brighter.
I'm in the middle of rewatching (again) the whole series. Six episodes into season 7...almost there.
They should bring it back
+ Manny S - I wish. But, without Martin Sheen or John Spencer, it could never be the same. And, regardless what they might try, I could never believe it could be any better. I will remember its legacy. And, try and satisfy myself by watching the DVDs.
there should be another west wing... but it should be new characters... I mean you could have them back in special eps but it should just start like the original show, with a new set of people having their first day in the white house.
I understand about John Spencer, but Sheen could do something on the show
+Sarah Swomley - Hi Sarah - I understand how you feel. But, it could never be the same. Martin Sheen would be an ex-President who could only act as a minor advisor to the President. And, even that would stretch credibility. And, Aaron Sorkin has already said that he would never write another TV Show. His sense of dialogue and events was what made the show great. I would hate to have one of the greatest TV Shows in history tarnish its reputation by trying to do a "sequel". We both know how that has worked out in the movies. Just enjoy what we have and revisit this great show. Best wishes, Ted
It would be almost impossible to recapture the chemistry the cast had with one another. They played well off each other and I don't think a reboot could do it justice. Just like trying another "Friends" series. Its just not the same
Love to see a West Wing/Newsroom crossover.
Gosh I miss this show, so very well done in every way. Wish they would reunite and continue the storyline with Sam as President.
I watch it over and over again! Love it and I'm definitely not a dem lol! But darn good show!

Idea for a reboot season: All the original main characters (except Leo, RIP) hold high-level positions in the House, Senate, White House, and the Supreme Court. The United States is in a utopia after a failed coup d'état by the KKK infiltrating the Republican Party. In a quarter of the way into the new session of Congress in 2023, a Democratic super-majority in both chambers passes a law that hands down stiff penalties for interacting with a government agency while being involved with a hate group with documented violence. Arrests are made at every level of government and in lobbyist circles.
Chief of Staff Josh Lyman asks President Sam Seaborn, "What's next, Mr. President?" A framed picture of Jed and Leo from 2005 sits on Seaborn's desk in Summer 2023. Seaborn picks it up, looks at it, sets it down, and responds, "What they would have wanted if they were with us right now."

I still ask why wasnt Sam at Leo's funeral? He was practically part of a conspiracy to exonerate Leo. I would think he would go to his funeral.

I've read that there was an executive at the network who really disliked Rob Lowe and didn't want him to have the roll in the first place, but Aaron Sorkin insisted. The exec made things difficult for him, so he left when Aaron Sorkin did and was excluded from later episodes that his character should've been part of.
@@s89t3 Leo died when Sorkin was already out of the show, and actually Lowe returned in the same season. So no, he was doing something else and cannot be in the funeral episode.
I wish we could have seen a Santos administration. Especially with Vinnick as Sec of State.

I absolutely loved the West Wing and at one time owned the series on dvd. Apparently it didn't survive our last move. But, realizing this is from June of 2016; when Matt Lauer opened up; I found myself wondering if the two women with him were victims of his abuse. Very sad circumstance.
seeing it for the first time, legally, and amazed at "like today" it is. so much sickens me! but the series is addictive

Good show but some times to pro Israel
I know it would be weird seeing this since its 10 months but US is an Israeli ally and it makes sense for an American show to be pro Israeli. To their credit however, they did have an episode where Israel were developing nukes and US made them stop.
Us gives a lot of money to Israel
@@pault1964 - Most of that money is in the form of military hardware with a lot of strings attached. I used to live and work in Israel many years ago and it's an amazing country.
I worked in Palestine in 83 was a great country, it couldn’t deal with American money
