Great footage. I remember climbing these two Munros back in the mid eighties, although we didn’t go up Schoolhouse ridge. I do recall that the final slope of Sgorr Dhonuill was banked with snow, which made for a great little snow arête to finish on.

Fantastic stuff Paul. Jealousy doesn't come close to describing my feelings when watching this. You're really smashing (threw that in, cause it's my LEAST favourite phrase to describe climbing a mountain 😂) the Munros this year.
Looks a great mix of "hands on" and walking.
I'll be driving past it soon as I'm spending next week in and around Glen Coe with my wife. Sadly, no high walks for me, but hope to do some low level stuff together.
The scrambling looked good, but it is always difficult to judge how comfortable you would be with it from a video. It not until it's actually before you and you're seeing it with your own eyes that you can truly guage how you feel. You certainly handled it well, including some Stripey camera work 😅!!
I've put on hold my Munro efforts for a couple of weeks. Pal Andy unavailable this week, and as he would also like to do ALL the possible Munro pairs I have in mind, holding off for a couple of weeks seemed the sensible thing to do.
I did manage to get out myself on Monday and smashed 😂 Corbett Beinn an Lochain at the Rest and Be Thankful.
A bit of scrambling involved there too, but not in your walks league. It did test my mobility (with my gammy sciatic leg) a lot more than the two Munros at Drumochter did though.

    • @PAADVENTURES1
      @PAADVENTURES1  3 роки тому

Wow! thanks John. I only started bagging the munros in 2020 after years of walking and never paying attention to what I was climbing...so I started again. Since 2020 I am on 82. 22 so far since April. Trying not to set targets but hoping to get to 100 this year.
This is a great walk and other than a wee scramble I found it to be pretty easy going. It ended up over 1500m of ascent and around 17k which took 7 hours.
The weather is looking pretty good this weekend and I have a special walk planned that I have been waiting to do for a while...watch this space. Might bump into you up in the Glencoe area........
I have still to go a wander up Beinn an Lochain and have heard great things! any photos??
      Cheers
      Paul.

@@PAADVENTURES1 I did 5 Munros between 20/25 years ago, including Ben Nevis with Cathie on our 20th wedding anniversary.(I know how to show a girl a good time 😂) Didn't really consider myself a "hillwalker". Then I stopped altogether. No one to go with, too busy etc.
Then at 62 found myself retired, but with what little spare time I had, wondered if I could still get myself up a hill. No more than that. Any my age, can I get up ONE Munro. No intention to do any more. Found out I could, and then just did some more.
Scraped myself up 65 and your end of year total, 100, I would happily accept as my end total. My personal compleation.
I did a micro report on Walkhighlands (didn't have much time) on BaL (johnscot55) which is still on the first page and is mainly pics.

@@PAADVENTURES1 Hi Paul, I live down in Essex so its a good 8 hour drive, 500 odd miles. Had family holidays in Scotland when i was young, always up the west coast. I was about 10 when i 1st went up Nevis.
I haven't done anything like the walks you do, i'm normally away with my girlfriend so its just normal walks. I've often looked at the Munro's and thought i'd love to go up there.
Seeing your videos has just fueled everything up again. I've love to be up there now but currently have a back issue. I'm using your videos as motivation to get it sorted out.
We were in Scotland in August, stayed in Ballachulish the 1st night and did the Lost Valley walk then on up to Skye for the rest of the week. I said to my girlfriend this time around that it always feels a 2nd home when I'm in Scotland.
I'been to Wales 3 times in the last few months which is a good substitute for Scotland and a bit nearer.
I asked about knowing a bit more about your lifestyle on one of the other videos, is that ok to do on here, i don't know if you want to keep certain things private? Its only stuff like do you work, how often you go out that sort of stuff or perhaps you could do a video about it?
I did watch the 1st video you put up and yes eek but you've come a long way. Thanks

Andy, I know I am biased but there is something magical about the mountains in Scotland. For me it's where I feel alive and most content so I totally get the second home feeling. Its truly inspiring and continually fills me with awe and wonder. I have been wandering about the hills since high school and hope to continue as long as I can.
Pleask ask away Andy, there is not much too my wee existence! Family, walking and work! And a wee bit of youtube.

      Morning Andy,
Well I am right at your heels! Just turned the big 50 this year! Scary birthday, felt like a landmark occasion! We go walking every weekend, usually a Sunday but we will change it if the weather dictates Saturday would be better. My wife and wee dog paddy do come out a lot, you will have surely seen them in some videos... The guys I mostly walk with are all retired so they walk on a Wednesday too. If I can join them I will but that's not often. We tend to try and go somewhere new every weekend in the summer and then revert to more local areas in the winter. In the past we usually utilise the hostels but this has been difficult the last while due to covid so car camping or wild camping until next year when the hostels reopen.
Unfortunately I am still working! I am a civil engineer in the nuclear industry which keeps me active and busy through the week!
I think the trick with hill walking is to keep doing it! You will have heard people talk about hill fitness and it takes a wee while to get there but once you are there you just need to keep going. I have had numerous injuries and niggles over the years but as my wee mum says...just get on with it! I tend to try and walk away most injuries as I am not good at sitting around. 😁.
Two years ago I decided to do something that I had resisted for years and that was to log the munros! So I started again and have been going through them with these wee videos. As of yesterday I'm 107 out of 282! So a long way to go and hopefully a lot of videos still to do!
Hope you will join me on the journey! Paul

There are some people on here that I cringe when I see a 30 minute video. Not this one though. Soon as we saw the time, hit the pause button, grabbed some snacks, got comfy, and put it out on the big screen. Didn't think you'd have done a premier unless you were proud of it, and we were not disappointed! First, I think that's the most of civilization we've ever seen in one of your vids there at the beginning. I don't think we've considered before now that you adventure anywhere near where proper civilized people might make a home.
1300 metres vertical is no joke, that's for sure. Sounds a bit more like dragon slaying that wee walking to us. Are you sure you didn't do twice that, with the number of times you had to back track to pick up the camera, and climb again? At least the wind and rain were not trying to blow you off the mountain this time.
Your hiking partner was brave, scaling the rocks in just shorts. I get scraped good enough even through a good sturdy pair of pants. Suppose we should be glad he didn't scale up in a kilt... Do people in Scotland ever hike in kilts? That's actually a thing here in the states. Couple guys on youtube actually run about through woods and up mountains in kilts.
The views were definitely fantastic on this, but then they always are in your vids. Never seen you take a week walk without them unless the weather decided to deny them. You certainly had to work for these though.
Loved the peak behind you at 24:40. Can tell a glacier or 2 had it's way with it, between the vertical and diagonal scoring on it. We see that a lot over here too, and it's so cool to see lines like that in nature. Surprised you have midges up that high, what with the breezes and all. Also, the water in the background towards the end, is that a huge loch, or a bay?
Stunning walk Paul. Yee Haw, Fabby doo! Epic is not a big enough word, that's for sure. Thanks for having us along! Not sure how you'll top this one, but you always find a way!

      @PAADVENTURES1  3 роки тому

Wow! Thanks so much for the comments JR! I am blown away!!!! I have a mental image of you all comfy and enjoying a snack on the sofa!
I get the 30 minute thing though. I usually cut out loads to try and make it shorter but in the end I want to look back on these wee walks in years to come and enjoy them again so 30 minutes it is! I always end up with around 2 hours of footage per walk and felt that this was definitely a 30 minute watch.
These two hills are about as close to a village that I have walked in a while. Ballachulish sits right at the bottom of Glencoe and is surrounded by the most amazing hills and glens, quite a special place and no excuse for not getting out into the mountains if you live here!
My stats for the day ended up at 1540m of ascent, 17km and 6hrs 57mins. we have a walk planned for this Sunday which makes this look like a stroll in the park... Google 'The Ring of Steall' the weather is looking good so planning on this for Sunday.
Colin actually took a bad cut in his knee during that wee scramble, he only noticed it when he felt the blood run down his leg! No kilts though but we did pass someone in a tweed jacket and sandals..quite the eccentric!
Thanks again guys! your support is really appreciated and maybe someday we can do a walk together!
      Cheers
      Paul.
