  • Jerry and I decided to hike the first trail we ever did together - Abrams Falls trail in the Great Smoky Mountains. This was also the first trail that we both ever solo hiked. This is a very popular trail in the Smokies in the Cades Cove area. Watch the entire video to see the full 4.3 mile trail.

Closer to 6 by my fitness watch's count. But we did veer off a couple times.

Beautiful scenery and the video is great. I liked that you talked about the challenges and easy parts
of the trail, as well as addressing the phobia of bears (and snakes). The footage is great. Thanks so much for
    sharing. Happy hiking :)

We are going to Townsend TN and we are looking for an easy hike to a waterfall where you can get into the water we will be taking my 76 year old Mom any suggestions?

Pam and I hiked to the falls one year from the Abrams Creek ranger station when the Cades Cove loop was closed for paving. Nobody else on the trail or at the falls, which was a rare bonus. I will be curious to hear how you like your Xero sandals for hiking (grip of the tread, support and comfort, etc.). I have an older pair with a much thinner sole that I ended up not liking because they provide no support and the sole is really too thin. Not surprising for a "minimalist" shoe, I guess, but I'm curious about the ones you got. Take care!

Bob, I LOVE my z trail shoes! They are definitely thinner than a regular sandal like a Chacos but I think they are so comfortable and lightweight to carry. I even have high arches and I like them. I wear them more as camping shoes rather than hiking in. I have wore them around town though.

My mother lived in Happy Valley growing up and would cross the Falls every day to catch the school bus in the Cove to go to Maryville. My wife and I hiked down there 6 months after the Storm of the Century and trees were still down everywhere. Getting down to see the Falls was a bit of a climb and trees were still across the Falls. Nice to see the place back to its natural beauty.
    Thanks!

Hello my hiking friend, greetings from Northern California. It's good to see you and Jerry out on the trail again. Lots of greenery on your trek. With the high humidity it must have been sweltering out there. What a pleasant area near the falls. All the best to you folks. Take care and be safe. 🤗

The sign says 10 deaths now have occurred from drowning. Crazy how many people have died there in 2 years.

Hi! I want to thank you for your videos! I recently went to the GSMNP for fulfilling my quest to do an adventure in every national park. Your videos inspired some of my hikes. I thought of you as I hiked Cades Cove and Abrams’ Falls. (ESP when I passed the church you and Jerry got married in). I saw a bear on the trail too. I met mutual friends Dana and Jamie on the Alum trail up LeConte - it was so fun! I’ll be back! Thank you!

So this may be a crazy question. And I’m sorry if it is lol. How do you record you and jerry walking by the camera? Do you just set it somewhere walk by and then have to go all the way back to get it? I mean that makes Since but, you actually do a lot of walking compared to someone not filming lol.

So is it 5.5 miles to the falls and back or 5.5 miles each way?

Always enjoy your videos 😊 It's been 20 years since I have been in the Cade's Cove area. I just got back on Monday from a 3 day backpacking trip to Linville Gorge. That purple plant almost looks like coral. I really like that you respond to the comment section. That is usually the deciding factor in which channels I subscribe to. Have you ever hiked to the old Cade's Cove community? Still some delapidated cabins there. The old Bunker Hill Rd is one way to get there.

I want to hike in Linville Gorge at some point. Now when you say “Old” cades cove community - I’m not familiar with it but would love to know more! How can I find out about this area? I try to always respond as much as I’m able. ☺️

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm planning on going down the trail for the first time here in the next few days, and have been a little apprehensive being it's my first hike, and also the last time I was in Cades Cove, I saw the biggest bear I've ever seen crossing a field. I'm so excited for this now though, and atleast now I know somewhat of what to expect when going down the hike. Thanks again!

What kind of trail sandals do you have ?

  • @hikerhannah7371

Ive done this one several times... but how did you continue past the falls? Did you cross the creek?

    • @HikingwithBraids
      @HikingwithBraids  5 років тому

The trail continues past the sign (where the bridge is) to the right and up the hill (I forgot to film that part). It’s kinda easy to not notice because of the falls sign. It’s a very nice easy hike past the falls and intersects with Hatcher and Hannah Mountain trails. 😉
