Mercante knows her days are numbered. Gaming journalism is a relic of the past. And she's a leftover from 2016 when "agree with me or you're a blank insult" was a thing. Most of us outgrew that or evolved from it.
This just shows how we don't hate these activist game journos enough. They demand "tolerance", but offer NONE of it to anyone who doesn't share their ideology, but still expects it from everyone who disagrees with them, while they call you insults.

There's a reason GamerGate's #1 enemy was Kotaku. Kotaku was the first media outlet to spin GamerGate as being fueled exclusively by misogyny. It wasn't initially, it was a legitimate gripe about media bias that SO HAPPENED to be tied to a women potentially sleeping around to garner good reviews. It was speculation initially. It wasn't about her sleeping around and cheating, it was about who she was doing it with. Kotaku is peak hack sensationalism disguised as journalism. Beyond the normal internet squabbling over dei, what Quelaag was originally doing was advertising herself as having the correct corpo ideology to get hired by a fellow prog (basically a twitter resume). However, when Mahler responded to make sure everyone knew Moon was not associated with Quelaag and her flaming, he painted a target on his back. That's why Quelaag followed up, asking whether he felt dei was forced on them. It was to clarify whether he was stepping over the progressive line. Mercante showing up after indicates the whisper network has received a new target. This will be a good showing of whether the progressives' hold in the industry has really weakened. If Mahler is pushed out over this minor squabble with an absolute nobody in the industry, then we will know that absolutely nothing has changed.

You know, the one who immediately tried to make it a playground fight. Get real.
Her complaining about that is wild. If you call people out in public you get the rebuttal in public.
Mahler doesn't want these idiots to get associated with/pretending to speak for his studio, that's why I think he called out the first chick
This is why I love the gaming crowd. We neither mess around, nor take garbage like this.
@@jordanscherr6699 lol, that must be why the gaming industry is the only one where these people thrive to the point of having made themselves a priviledged class.
@@meppho They might be around, but have people been listening to them? At the very least, have gamers been doing so? Once they came in, they became a very isolated class too.
It’s very likely that Mercante will get sued for defamation, since she is trying to sue SmashJT for that. Only problem is: everything he said is true, usually in her own words. If her lawsuit fails in court, she could very easily get countersued and lose big. And I don’t think Kotaku can handle anything else like this.
I really hope Smash countersues. There needs to be repercussions for their actions.
I love when a game dev shutdown loser grifters like alyssa..
Everytime one of these people go online say speak like this, I have no idea how anyone can see it as anything else as what it is. A bunch of adult children throwing tantrums because everyone doesn't listen to them, likes them, agrees with them, ect. They are literally just throwing tantrums begging for attention.
Their need to have everyone side with them speaks volumes.
4:29 Geeky summarized the entire drama into one sentence
Don't forget Kotaku had a role in the kickvic movement.
Stopped giving a fakku about Kotaku back then. #IStandWithVic
Reading that director's tweets, now that is how you do social media! Very respectful, but also very clear that the person did not speak for his company.
"I don't even know who you are"
- Thanos Mahler
He was very nice about the whole thing.
she's probably rattling about mansplanining, but indeed, she doesn't seem capable of staying quiet on her own.
Kotaku, you shouldn’t choke on your ambitions…..
*Slow heavy Breathing*
Like everything these days. Indie creatives once again showing the 'professionals' how its actually done.
So bc i like and watch clownfish, i can now say that i work for and/or represent clownfish!!!
And have contributed to clownfish-
Gameplay matters the most. Attractive sex dimorphic characters, detailing worlds, and effective sounds are the gameplay for consistency at suspending disbelief.
Agreed. Mario doesn't sell title after title because of his cultural background and "lived experiences."
They break one of the cardinal rules of real journalist: Report the news, DON'T become it.
Camgirl sure is crazy
Kotaku's Journalistic Integrity: ERROR 404, Not Found
I commented on her post “I believe his response was calm and measured, what I find abhorrent is how he was treated”
I was instantly blocked.
>"You're apparently a journalist from kotaku, so I'm guessing you haven't worked in actual game development yet."
I wasn't there in person, yet even I felt the heatwave from that nuke he dropped on her right there.
And if that "guess" was right, they can't even respond to that insult 😂
"You killed my father"
"Do you know how little it narrows it down"
Actually, last news her Twitter profile went private.
Instead of trying to slap back, she went into hiding.
Not the worst decision she could had made, at that point.
THIS JUST IN!! HOES MAD
Geeky going HARD in the paint
Let's not forget she told people to physically fight her and backed out when varadark wanted to fight her
I don't want to hear about people's "lived experiences" in gaming "journalism". If I wanted to hear about lived experiences, I'd go watch the ACTUAL news.
That’s not even “actual” anyways
@@MajorKatsuragi86 I worked most of my life in local television news, and I certainly agree. Even so, if a TV newsperson brazenly referred to the subject of a story as a "dickhead" in public discourse, that newsperson wouldn't be a newsperson for much longer.

@@barcster2003 no, the are activists who are pretending to be journalists. And pretending poorly. From day one real gamers saw through their bs.

Kudos to Game Director for shutting down a lying activist before she took control of the social narrative and drug his company into an unwinnable situation.
4:16 wow she strikes me as the like 14 year old girl who got turned down by the person she likes and now she’s ranting on her twitter to vent this woman’s got no emotional maturity
3:29 NeoGAF is not as left as it once was. All of those crazies left to ResetERA.
Until that fades away-
Nah it's still crazy, just less relevant.
Reset Era is where dead brains go to rot. 4chan's B in the golden age couldn't hold a candle to it.
I actually own both Ori games. They are absolutely beautiful. If the games were just movies, I would have watched them.
Loved how Alyssa just jumped into a situation that made her look incredibly stupid.
I can't wait for the last of VC money to dry up and these terminally online weirdos posing as games journalist are finally unemployed, unemployable, and no longer able to make a living hating games, the people who play them, and the people who make them.
She is desperately looking for dirt on him.
Handling these clowns as a gamedev is pretty easy. When they ask for an interview, just ignore them. When they show up at your booth at a convention, just ignore them. And when your game releases and they ask for a review code .. you know the drill 🤫
Honestly, what surprises me is that they weren't sued yet.
"lived experience". And then she insults people as incels, people whos lived experience apparently doesn't matter. That is why the term "lived experience" is useless. Whenever someone brings it up, you can bet your tuchus that they use it as a code for "MY experience matters, fuck YOUR experience". Main character syndrome.
A great based moment by a dev to save his company name. We need more of this when idiots get attention, Mercante, oh that was a glorious curbstomp and being calm about it.
People think they are the center of the universe kicking and screaming; decrying that they are special and important when in reality they are a spec of dirt indistinguishable from shit.
Fathers... Please, please spend quality time with your children, give them the love, training and attention that they need.
And nothing of value will be lost.
The best part is at 12:15 where the story you're reading has spelled Mercante's name wrong (it's spelled Merante). After Mahler saying "I don't know who you are", this just made me laugh.
Kotaku was far too desperate to get any help. Good, it is afraid.
Sanity will prevail the day Kotaku ceases to be. & the editor & those like her are ran outta this field.
Remember, these are failed jouros who have no where else to go. But we don't want them here either.
And working as janitors, street sweepers or washing dishes in a small restaurant on two bucks an hour.

That take down of Mercante was a beautiful thing. She got slapped into next week in just about the most polite way, she has no recourse becasue he didn't call her names or use any "chud" language and beautifully explained his side of the story from the hit piece that makes perfect sense. Couldn't happen to a nicer person.
I love it when Geeky talks mad shit about people. It's a balm for my soul.
he dismantled and destroyed both of them calm, cool and collected, neither of them will ever recover from the level of exposure he gave them.
Karens ruined gaming and entertainment industry
Nah, the Triple A corporations were already on that track, and remember, they are the idiots that hired these Karens to begin with. Like all things, it was our delusional corporate overlords that ruined Triple A gaming. Not all gaming is ruined though, theirs plenty of amazing Indie game titles made from smaller developers that actually love what they do.
it's like a reddit moderator claiming to have worked on the game
Wasnt the video game world less dramatic before chicks got involved?
Insane chicks destroy everyones fun, even for normal gals 😥
"The idea of freedom has been sold to you so you don't feel responsible for anyone else"
If you're an ADULT no one is responsible for you but yourself. The self entitlement with this chick. Kotaku deserve's to go under for keeping her around.
Sounds like the dev went to The Head Management in Kotaku says yeah can you wrangle your own people keep them inline.
Well done from the Ori Director. That is a first-class response.
He destroyed her in the most polite way.
I love when people use the "I don't even know who you are." Line when it comes to insufferable children trying to play adult. Nothing cuts as deep as telling these type of people that they are insignificant.
Alyssa better not quite her day job on OF lol

What you mentioned about jiggle physics reminded me of a funny story. My graphics programming teacher was telling us about how he was assigned to work on the jiggle physics in a game and he joked about how he needed to go see the Tomb Raider movie (2001) for research. They took him up on that suggestion and they went to watch it while at work.
I love how we must listen to their lived experience, but they don't need to listen to our lived experience.
And tolerance ….. they preached tolerance to us for years….. now the invasion is in full force and they don’t tolerate us anymore.
