In my game I used the Cassalanters as my villains for Dragon Heist and Jarlaxle was their ally, but then during the heist from the Cassalanters Villa (they got the money first), Jarlaxle betrayed them and took the money for himself and escaped by jumping off the roof of the Villa (which I moved closer to the water) onto his ship.

That's a good plan. I intend to use Jarlaxle for [SPOILERS TO MY SUNDAY GAME]:
Offering to help the city with a dragon problem to get more favor for when he gets the money.

I can’t decide between these two, I may go for Cassalanters but with Jarlaxle having a big role

One neat easter egg in the campaign is that the submarine, "The Scarlett Marpenoth" is a play on "The Red October" since Marpenoth is the 10th month in the Faerun setting.

I highly recommend reading the R. A. Salvatore stories about Drizzt so you can learn about Jarlaxle. He's an incredible well created character.

My plan was to run Jarlaxle as my villian, but then my freaking Dark Elf Warlock was like "I want my family ties to be a secret, my surname is Baenre" and I was like ".... okay". So now I'm thinking MAYBE he might end up being their ally? Or I can use this even more to my advantage. Deception! Betrayal! lol

I mean he could use the party as allies to get what he wants, maybe.

A couple of important things to remember about Jarlaxle. First, he's not "evil" so much as he's out for his interests at any cost. He won't hesitate to kill if it helps him further his plans, but he's not one to waste life. For example, if he saw a child in trouble on the street, he'd absolutely step in to help them or save them. Even if there were adults in danger, as long as it would not hurt his interests, there's a decent chance he'd assist them as well. If you were someone in the town that was no threat or had no knowledge or interest in his plans, he might even be someone you'd hang out at the bar with and could be friendly with on a regular basis. He's not evil for evil's sake, so to speak. He's an *extremely* likeable guy. Second... Jarlaxle genuinely loves the Sea Maiden's Faire. Aside from all his other plans, the Sea Maiden's Faire is almost a hobby of his. He loves being the center of attention, putting on a show that awes the townfolk, and wowing the local children. While it is an outstanding cover and alibi for his other activities, he would still put on the Sea Maiden's Faire even if he didn't have a scheme in the works.

Siding with Jarlaxle as a good or neutral party is entirely possible.

8:56 Idon't think you're supposed to fight Jarlaxle. He isn't supposed to die.

It would certainly be extremely difficult, but a well laid plan against him could work. Plus, the book actually states what happens if he's killed, so that implies it's very possible.
