That's the best. Emptying the clip isn't good enough. It takes the followup boot to the grill to get the job done. And you have to love how the dude had the cigar in his mouth through all of it.
An action movie is only as good as both its hero and villain. I'm not gonna deny that Van Damme, back in the day, was fun to watch, but man, Henriksen kicks ass in this movie.
Beretta 92: gun of the 20th century movies Glock: gun of the 21st century movies Crazy how much things have changed. I am proud to be a child of the 80s that enjoys the classics.
@@sadetwizelve Yes. While the other movies were great, I felt that "Hard Target" was the one that fully established Van Damme as an actor to be reckoned with, in other words, not just "another karate guy making another movie kicking asses". It had great writing, a great plot, and Lance Henriksen as the consummate evil villain and Wilford Brimley as a warm and welcome presence helping Van Damme to defeat him.
It still seems like there’s a bottomless mag every time he reloads. It looks like he shot van Cleaf 26 times. Round it down to 20 times for repeat camera angles. So 10 rounds a gun. Looks like he put in extended 20 round mags and considering how liberally he shot after reloading… It doesn’t take away from the action any since who’s really counting exacts anyway? Still amusing.
6:04 Something else I noticed not in the theatrical version. They never showed the guy removing the arrow from his arm before chance unloads on the generic baddie. After Chance finish the baddie with the Forward the theatrical version makes him kick the Dude who just removed the Arrow then he empties the clip. Why did John Woo cut the first emptied clip out? Was it continuity issues? I just know those whole see is brutal uncut making this movie even more legendary to me.
This is the UNCUT version of the shootout only available on the Blu Ray in the US, while the DVD is the theatrical cut. Australia and the U.K. Got the uncut version on DVD initially, years later we would get it on Blu Ray. At 6:04 I wish they got rid of the shot of him removing the arrow from his arm, it's back in there in the next shot. Also his glasses disappear. This really bugged me. If they ever release a directors cut I hope they remove that shot.
Definitely my favourite of any JCVD films 🤯 Easily one of the best of John Woo's hollywood efforts along with Face Off, it's a shame action doesn't get this good anymore.
They do, but now they mostly go direct to DVD or are mostly few and far between. About the only mainstream action straight action series we got now is John Wick.
Felt like the 80's kinda died out around 1993 --- movies and music stopped being fun after that --- "Rapid Fire" with Brandon Lee came out in 1992 and had the last gasp of 80's goodness in that action movie
In terms of JCVD just counting his action films, Hard Target Time Cop Universal Soldier In Hell Blood sport and Kickboxer are my favorites. In terms of John I would say Face off is my favorite of his American films, but this is the top 3 along with Broken Arrow.
I agree though Face/Off is a pretty close second. A shame John Woo stopped doing this style of action movies. Now he's back in China and have no idea what the guy is doing but it's nothing as memorable as his 90s movies.
3:44 that jumping spinning kick needs a lot of power and concentration, if you're a Karate practitioner and learned that move from your master you'll reach the exact level
At least they put extended mags in the Berettas instead of making standard mags look endless. He still fired way too many rounds, but they made an effort
Van Damme is partially responsible for the cut down theatrical version. I'd rather have a commentary with Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo, that would be amazing!
Imagine a studio lightning one of their main stars on fire these days. It would never happen, maybe in an indie production, but never in a major blockbuster.

Its kinda funny how i notice and see things differently in a movie now as a 34 year old, that i wouldn't of even thought twice about when i was 16 yrs old. Like the paper mache faces that explode when Van Damme shoots them with his shotgun. incendiary rounds? Lol... Where the hell did the explosions come from? one scene there where Lance Henriksen is ripping off his jacket like he is in a chemical fire. Lol ..John Woo must of notice he was coming under budget and thought fuck it lets just throw in 50k worth of pyrotechnics in the last 10 minutes.. lol....
Yeah I love John Woo's movies but it felt like he was getting pretty indulgent and corny with the ending of this movie --- like shooting everybody 20 times instead of once or twice LOL
Or how all that shrapnel and flying glass never touches his pretty face, or the magic 50 round pistol magazines because each bad guy requires at least 10 rounds or more to kill
Fun fact: the part where Lance Henriksen's back was set on fire was an accident, unintended (you can also tell by the shocked look on his fellow actors). But he continued acting and stayed in character and the director decided to keep the shot in the movie.
OH my God, the very same here! Might be my favorite thing about the movie is his progressively unhinged performance!! He really loses his shit as the movie goes on hahahahaha. Cartoon like.
