    4:19 I believe McGregor did this in the Nate Diaz 2 fight. McGregor was lacking in reach, so he would force Diaz to commit to a long jab, McGregor would slip to the inside WHILE delivering a left straight. Pretty much punishing a guy for just jabbing at you. This technique worked well as they were both southpaws. Keeping the head off-angle while landing.

    Have you considered reviewing Miyamoto Musashi's book of the five rings and interpreting that into a modern context as a fighter. Specifically there is a section of technique/strategy, timing of fakes, opening attacks against an indecisive opponent. He is technically a swordsman, but I always try to imagine my kicking or punching in place of the sword.

    My favorite way of getting in is a fake jab and then BURSTing forward guarded. Once inside, it seems to negate full power punches, full power kicks. Do you have any tips on dealing with knees and side knees once you're on the inside? Also once there it's easy to score body punches, rib shots, liver, but do have any favorite KO shots (via attacks to the head instead of attacks to the body?)

  • @joeygoguen1525
    @joeygoguen1525 3 роки тому +2

    From a boxing standpoint bobbing and weaving works pretty good for closing in but you have to worry about uppercut's plus a crouched low stance is good as well, if you get smoked you generally are getting hit in the top of the head but aren't taking massive ko damage from it compared to get punched in the mouth or jawline.That being said getting hit in the head is obviously not good all the time. Does anyone know why bobbing and weaving styles like Joe Frazier have stopped being used in boxing .just curious ?

    Thanks for the video, this is helpful as I’m one of smallest dude in the gym. I’ve been watching your glory fights and noticed you have sharp boxing skills and focus when in close range throwing hands and exchange blows. How do you get in the boxing range without fear of getting hit? Like committing to a strike without worrying of getting countered. When I throw a jab to make entry into the boxing range I always fear of getting countered and when I do get countered I tend to flinch and look away or retreat out of range. How do you get over that fear or stop the flinching ? Any boxing drills that can be helpful? Or is it just sparring/fighting and getting hit and used to it for long time?

    Why is it always" the smaller guy has to come in close" with most coaches as if the knowledge that you can do a lot more with your body even though a few inches shorter was not possible.. man..they keep doing this to us...it's humiliating when you are told it is the only way when it is clearly not... take so much punishment to either get a knock out, survive or get knocked the f out yourself during this because the taller man just gets tight on you and now your head is like right in his most devastating hooks and other stingers.. or have to retire early or just fight like some ramon dekkers every time.. some tank against length or technicality...i hate it when the coach forces you to do this as if there was noooooo other way... like none... as if short fighters have 50 inch reach against 100 inch each every time and no creativity can happen in that distance.. that has to change....Growing up at 5 feet 6 inches at 130lb to 140lb in Canada usually forced me to face taller guys until just recently when I started being sized up properly in sparring in the later years before this last gym I went to and covi got worse... it was so stupid and relentless this pattern to the point where I gained more success against taller and even bigger people all together rather it was at close or long distances and when the guy is my weight I notice his height starts not even being a factor at all, the opponent just felt more weaker and easier to hurt. I just began hitting harder at many angles and now I find the bigger guys especially taller ones easier... and now having to tone it down on the guys my size. For a shorter guy I still spar at a distance against the taller guys and find I do not have a disadvantage at all besides the obvious reach and what not where it is obvious... but I still manage to slip and meet the taller man with the same jabs and long distance shots even though I technically should suck because I am barely good at even the basics but I stopped caring and found I have more success not being so wrapped up in believing I cannot fight bigger people at a distance. Instead of coming in close I just adjust... I really technically should not be good at it at all and coaches laugh for a while until their favourites kind of look stupid... I just always find the way in no matter how experience my opponents are and it makes me really flustered when my coach is trying to change it to where now I am getting subjected to awful hooks on the inside that I can block but I just do not want to take at all and deal with when I got more success making my opponent take my jabs and hard crosses to the body that just work every time no matter how much they counter... i would rather control it how i am use to and see my opponent suffer instead of me.. i just think it is common sense... and when they hate that then I come in close and love it because I feel in control not forced.. i just reposition myself or change stances because though I should suck I make up for it by not being demoralized and feeling like it is over even his reach does get me... just bite down and go in harder and faster in anyway i can i have found works...this manner of coaching has been so persistent on me and shorter people i train with that I just refuse it and go back to the outside and win the match... it sucks but i have had to be rebellious in order not to waste my time and get hurt just to out class the bigger guy the orthodox way... now with this said it is mainly when I box and wrestle that this happens because i am not yet entirely experience in kickboxing but I know it is a matter of time before I do the same thing with it as I am studying fighters who deal with the same thing I do in muay thai and kickboxing with success by not relying on the in close strategy every single time their opponent may have some reach on them. I sound so critical when I comment and I am sorry i do not sound like a fan... i see you more as a fellow man at arms in a sense... someone I can complain to and really ask true questions and out of frustration for all the bss training, coaches and wastes of time and resources you get until you actually find a proper place here in BC in my life's experience... just got lots built up inside and it just comes out as I go along especially in these current times that is really preventing everyone from being able to train at their full potential. I am 32 and if i would of been pro and had better coaching we would be very acquainted due to our proximity.... glad you got the true chance and proud you are bringing these videos out for BC.

      I cannot train under Josh Jauncey anymore and for some reason I keep relating this to you because I have respect for the man and his dad and brother but just do not feel it and maybe you can help them get on track with their future students because it sucks no offence. I do not feel it and the guy is pretty not motivating and overly serious in all the wrong ways to the point where is turning serious people away who want to open up their heart and mind to the training... I feel small and stupid when I train there, it is so routine and there is no motivation at all and I keep making mistakes that are being pointed out by people in public and not by my coaches as if just wanting me to come for ten years. If real fighters are trained at this gym I do not see them and cannot have my son there if I myself do not feel right there myself. I have tried my best and poured out my heart even looking odd trying to connect with the coaches after class to get proper training and instead walked away feeling more out of place as if I scared them with the fact that they may have to put in more effort than they are comfortable with. Is this why Canadians flow out of the country to gain talent? because coaches here are more dedicated to business than the actually game itself? feel that 10000000% and have felt it since I started at 10. I can't do it this way and it's made me kind of mad when I hear fighters make channels share all their experience as Canadian's saying they got all this from going overseas...... but why the heck not pour the ethic back into our country? make it dedicated? but same with hockey eh? all business... this is why I message you this way and even talked to my coach a bit critical before leaving yet another gym in BC... even maybe for the last time as i am not going to get myself coach for half a$$ coaches that seem to be looking for the GOAT rather than seeing it is built not found... i think better can be done.... when you read this could you understand where i come from or do i sound uncouachable and useless to you? what could you do with a man like me if you were to dedicate time on me? if you see 10 minutes of me hitting the bag making all my mistakes? i wonder what you would do if you could coach me? sorry for the odd comments but as a fellow Canadian and with the dedication and will i have had i had to take the opportunity while you still read comments ;) anyway man keep up these videos and congratulations on where you have gotten... my suggestion my friend is you hit this full time and become a very good coach... you have done so much and also deserve more recognition...

    Hey Gabriel, is there any chance of you fighting Petchpanomrung in Glory?

      Hmmm. Probably not good.
      I left GLORY because they weren't willing to pay their fighters what ONE, Bellator, etc were willing to offer. I don't imagine they would up their offer from before but I may reach out and see.

      @@GabrielVargaOfficial i see. Still, i think that would be an incredible fight. It's a shame Glory doesn't pay their fighters what they deserve. Thanks for responding!

    if my opponent is about the same skill as i am but they have 4 inches reach and they are lighter and faster (moving in and out of distance faster) is there a way to counter that?

      Generally the shorter fighter should have a punching power advantage. And if you can slip your way to the inside you can take advantage of it. Either pressure them to the ropes or utilize fakes.

    PLEASE UPVOTE THIS COMMENT 🙏
    It would be amazing if you shared GENERAL TACTICS when fighting. For example:
    - Use the jab to test range.
    - Flinch/Fake-out to gauge response.
    - Set patterns before breaking them.
    - Tag hard to earn respect from pressure fighter. (Got that one from you 😁).
    - Analyze stance: Heavy lead foot = Puncher. Active lead foot = Lead kicker. Narrow stance = Good mobility. Side/Sport Karate stance = In/Out attack preference and compensates for lack of lateral movement with spinning attacks. Etc...
    Please share a video of how one can better understand/analyze their opponent as quickly as possible. I'm no champ, so I'm certain your list will be far more comprehensive and more accurate.
    Thank you so much for the excellent content. Please, please keep it up. 💪😎

      Do you know the fight date? Parr told me he was fighting a Dutch guy next but I forgot to ask him when the fight was.

    Not supposed to "defeat" your sparring partner. Thats not sparring, thats fighting. In sparring there are no winners or losers, its about practicing.

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  3 роки тому

      Oh man. If everyone could do as you say imagine how great sparring would be.
      But I very rarely find that to be the case. Ego gets in the way and people start swinging.
      I try to keep things chill now that I'm not trying to prove anything in the gym but I always see people going way to hard at gyms.

    Hey dude love the tips but I'm going to give you some advice on getting more interest in your channel. Don't talk yourself up so much..people don't like that, we all understand your a weapon but you don't need to remind people of that every second sentence and stand in front of your belts and posters. Just seems self centered. Look if you want to do that then that's cool but if you want to get more subs then cut the shit and focus on giving the viewer more what they want and less making yourself feel good.
    And youtubers reply to my comment if you feel like your voice needs to be heard.
