Strong black family. Facts!
Man this almost brought tears to my eyes. I’ve been friends with this family for almost two decades. I met them at Ham’s gym in DC and watching Gary and Allen train was like watching Goku and Vegeta on Dragonball Z. Humans should not move that fast. But Big G took to me and made me feel like one of his sons. Through all the acclaim lil G has accomplished he’s always been down to earth and a great role model. I have videos of my son shadow boxing with him and he doesn’t know how much that means to me. Allen and I always would talk about other things then boxing and it’s great to see him grow into one of the best cornermen in the sport. Tonio reminded me so much of my uncle who passed, even as a kid he was a grown ass man. I remember a guy accidentally hit my son in the head in the gym but acted like fuck em, before I could get there he was on the dudes ass. And Ant, it was a pleasure to see him grow into the spiritual and intellectual young man he has, I’m still gonna send him this bill for all the dollars he would hit me for when we would hit 7/11 after training. They are a great family and I would be wrong to mention momma, she welcomes me in the home and always ask about my family when I come through. That’s why I’m so defensive online when it comes to them even though years ago G told me don’t worry about it because you’ll ever make everyone happy but as long as my family and true fans are happy that’s all that matters. I just wish nothing but the best and it’s great seeing them show what true black excellence is.

I love the Russell family; classy and real...the type of family that would give you the shirt off of their backs. Pops is a wonderful father and the results show...and I'm not simply talking about the boxing aspect; I'm also talking about the fine young men his sons turned out to be...and I also credit the mother of the family and whomever else in the Russell-family that is/was a factor. On a boxing note, though, I just wish son-Gary-Russell would have been managed better(?). I fear that he will go down in boxing as a fighter who's talent went unseen, unrecognized, unappreciated etc. I get it...yes, you want a man of his skills to get the big fights and be compensated accordingly but it takes EXPOSURE first, and then the rewards will come. Again, I get it...the bigger name fighters are accused of ducking him and I think this is PARTIALLY true. What I'm saying is this; Gary Russell should have been fighting more often, even in cases when fighters may be well below his skill level, but its the EXPOSURE that will make boxing fans want to see him and then his stock would have risen. Guess what else? The fighters who ducked(?) him would have been under sooooo much pressure to face him, not to mention the money they could have made for taking the risk would have influenced them to fight the man. For the sake of scenario: Santa Cruz vs Gervonta Davis; both fighters have a sold following, have established themselves as a result of being active and getting exposure. So, naturally, nationally AND INTERNATIONALLY boxing fans have navigated toward THAT match up. Santa Cruz or Davis vs Gary Russell; locally (I live in MD and know of Russell by default), so yes, I would definitely tune in...but nationally and internationally, most boxing fans know Russell(?) by name as a minimum, but have not really SEEN him...due to lack of exposure. Overall point it this: in general, I don't think top name fighters are ducking him in general; I simply believe that why fight Russell for 1 million when they can fight a well know established fighter for 10 million; the numbers are for analogy purposes/trying to make a point.
