Wow they are drawn much better in the VR videogame! The chibi style has life and oomph! The colors compliment each other! They look cute! For real they should have kept the show in chibi form. The writers were so bad at their craft, they made "likable" characters insufferable and "unlikable" characters borderline iconic. It's like whatever they intended, the opposite came out.

Amarillis and Snapdragon in this scene almost convinced me to watch this show, and that's a good, yet bad thing. Good because the dialogue is decent in this scene, and their character dynamic flows quite well: Amarillis is used to people sucking up to her, and is a bully to the MC's because she thinks she is the most talented person in the room. Snapdragon however is more empathetic and has less of an ego (based on this clip) but he bullies Rosemary because he finds her cheeriness and naivety annoying. The bad part about this is that it means the bully side characters have more personality than the main cast.
It also helps Amaryllis and Snapdragon that they're the only characters I've seen that get retribution for their actions. Snapdragon may not deserve people thinking bad of him/her because of what she thinks of herself, but people tend to act badly against that, and it's good to see her actually struggle and come on top instead of everything being given to her. And Amaryllis acts like an abrasive, sarcastic jerk, and people call her out on it, and it's good to see that. Meanwhile, pinky can insult someone in a sarcastic way and no one will bat an eye in-story

Ok, but compared to the early episodes, the dialogue in this compilation is actually kinda interesting and feels a bit more natural that the early episodes. The show definitely has potential but so far, they haven’t come close to unlocking it.
Episodes 6+ are actually decent. Episodes 1-5 are trash though. You NEVER want to start a show with 3+ bad episodes in a row. You want to hook the watcher, not turn them away.

I could see it. Like ignoring any connection to this show and taking that premise at face value, I think it could be workable. Violent pirate kid falls off a ship at sea after riding stowaway then gets saved by a very effeminate merman who tries to teach her about empathy and practicality as he helps her get a new life started in a coastal town of nearby country. The plot can gradually shift from pirate girl causing havoc on land while pretty merman explores undersea ruins in search of mcguffins, valuables, or anything useful until merman manages to hunt down a landwalker relic and can accompany pirate girl on a few (mis)adventures until the plot kicks in and Cthulhu invades or something. And it also kinds works thematically. Pirate girl is an oddity in human society because she’s so gruff and violent, and effeminate merman was a washout of the warrior guild he was born into. Working together, the two can kinda fill opposite ends of the rogue trope. Merman being exceptionally perceptive, persuasive, and cunning, while Pirate knows thief skills like lock picking and really dirty trick fighting.

@@elgatochurro This is episode 7 or 8, which is a 2 parter and is where most people who watched the entire thing say the show got a lot better. There are 12 episodes btw. Episode 6 in my mind is the first episode that isn't insufferable as things actually change and there's development and character growth in that one. First 5 episodes are trash though, and since people usually don't watch an entire series when the first few episodes are bad it's a big turn off. It's like the first 5 episodes were made by a completely different team led by the man-hating feminist while the main team was led by Raye who made an actually decent show. Though they should have just toned down the swearing and gore and released it on Cartoon Network, Netflix, or HBO Max, not release a children's cartoon that literally has to artificially force a higher rating to seem "mature" on an anime streaming service and expect people to watch it unironicly.

Like the rest, the vr game scene is almost enjoyable, if a little juvenile. To their credit though I liked the little touch where purple did the happy “saved” animation and then immediately went straight to being angry again. Like jumping for joy is a mandatory part of getting unfrozen, made me chuckle
I've got to give them some credit, having the purple hair girl stutter a bit when she takes off the goggles and realizes what's going on is a nice touch.
Actually the "femboy" you mentioned is actually a trans girl that willingly turned herself into a girl via magic, (the spell doesn't change voice, only body) just to let you know.
This halloween episode seems like it's probably the best of their work here. Haven't seen the show but clips from this episode are actually catching my interest. Snapdragon seems like a cool character.
The bullies are way too good of chatacters for this show They actually have personality, outside of stereotyping Snapdragon literally having the best character arc, period. Be pretty, snapdragon... be pretty... And Amarillisis clearly insecure, using violence and an aura of self superiority to mask that she just isn't good at connecting with people. But when her best friend is vulnerable, she will drop everything to protect him, and tell him he's pretty, no romance required. It's like, someone on the team realized that this woke BS is senseless fluff, and decided to convince the crew to let them write minor antagonists, with no interference from the woke squad, then proceeded to write actual frickn characters that people can enjoy.
"I'm my own person" "Is that what you think?" While its obvious she's responding to Snapdragon saying she's bossy, it sounds like she's responding to him saying that he's his own person. It's better if Amaryllis said "Is that what you think? That I'm bossy?"

It's probably a royalty free sound effect you can find online that CoC just happens to also use. Or it's part of a paid Sound Effect collection that a lot of studios have on hand. That's why you can hear identical sound effects in multiple different games/shows. Or they could just be using modified rips. Who knows!

True, it's probably because Cheryl has more time to show off her character and her chemistry with other people, it also helps that although her main arc is about transition her character isn't solely tied to the concept of "being the trans character"
The more I see of this clips the more I think it can be saved... if they change the protagonists to the side characters. Way better voices and stories (and even knowledge after she knew what they needed)
What upsets me about this show is that it had POTENTIAL. Amaryllis and Snapdragon are legitimately enjoyable characters, they just need some fine tuning. I remember me and my sister did a real time dub of HGS and I got the privilege of voicing the purple haired girl. For some reason I gave her a raspy voice that just kept getting worse as we kept recording until my throat was actually demolished. Just thought you might find that tidbit interesting.
I'm still pissed at the direction they took Snapdragon in. He was just a male who liked feminine things. I think by trying to get him to transition to a woman was very disingenuous to his character. It's like saying "oh you like to paint your nails and wear dresses, you MUST want to be a girl then!" When no, you can stay a man and still enjoy feminine things. I really don't understand how a show can so badly fck up their own characters.

Ok, but compared to the early episodes, the dialogue in this compilation is actually kinda interesting and feels a bit more natural that the early episodes. The show definitely has potential but so far, they haven’t come close to unlocking it.

Episodes 6+ are actually decent. Episodes 1-5 are trash though. You NEVER want to start a show with 3+ bad episodes in a row. You want to hook the watcher, not turn them away.

Like ignoring any connection to this show and taking that premise at face value, I think it could be workable.
Violent pirate kid falls off a ship at sea after riding stowaway then gets saved by a very effeminate merman who tries to teach her about empathy and practicality as he helps her get a new life started in a coastal town of nearby country.
The plot can gradually shift from pirate girl causing havoc on land while pretty merman explores undersea ruins in search of mcguffins, valuables, or anything useful until merman manages to hunt down a landwalker relic and can accompany pirate girl on a few (mis)adventures until the plot kicks in and Cthulhu invades or something.
And it also kinds works thematically. Pirate girl is an oddity in human society because she’s so gruff and violent, and effeminate merman was a washout of the warrior guild he was born into.
Working together, the two can kinda fill opposite ends of the rogue trope. Merman being exceptionally perceptive, persuasive, and cunning, while Pirate knows thief skills like lock picking and really dirty trick fighting.

I like the Amaryllis and Snapdragon chemistry appreciation, but when Snapdragon said "Maybe you think I like following you around like a puppy. Uh-uh. I'm my own person," my mind short circuited. This series needs a serious rewrite of dialog. I feel like that would make the show much more appealing

@@elgatochurro This is episode 7 or 8, which is a 2 parter and is where most people who watched the entire thing say the show got a lot better. There are 12 episodes btw. Episode 6 in my mind is the first episode that isn't insufferable as things actually change and there's development and character growth in that one. First 5 episodes are trash though, and since people usually don't watch an entire series when the first few episodes are bad it's a big turn off. It's like the first 5 episodes were made by a completely different team led by the man-hating feminist while the main team was led by Raye who made an actually decent show. Though they should have just toned down the swearing and gore and released it on Cartoon Network, Netflix, or HBO Max, not release a children's cartoon that literally has to artificially force a higher rating to seem "mature" on an anime streaming service and expect people to watch it unironicly.
The developers fucked up. Pirate girl and mermaid man should be the stars. Not whiny bubble gum girl 🤦♀️

Purple girl is the best.
Like the rest, the vr game scene is almost enjoyable, if a little juvenile.
To their credit though I liked the little touch where purple did the happy “saved” animation and then immediately went straight to being angry again. Like jumping for joy is a mandatory part of getting unfrozen, made me chuckle

It's like, someone on the team realized that this woke BS is senseless fluff, and decided to convince the crew to let them write minor antagonists, with no interference from the woke squad, then proceeded to write actual frickn characters that people can enjoy.

It's probably a royalty free sound effect you can find online that CoC just happens to also use. Or it's part of a paid Sound Effect collection that a lot of studios have on hand. That's why you can hear identical sound effects in multiple different games/shows. Or they could just be using modified rips. Who knows!

True, it's probably because Cheryl has more time to show off her character and her chemistry with other people, it also helps that although her main arc is about transition her character isn't solely tied to the concept of "being the trans character"
The more I see of this clips the more I think it can be saved... if they change the protagonists to the side characters.
