TRAVELING TO SYRIA IN 2023... (intense!)

  • Traveling in to Syria in 2023 is not easy. The country is in the midst of recovering from a 12 year civil war, and entry is restricted, crossings in to this ancient land can only be made by land, from Lebanon or Jordan. We have wanted to travel to Syria for years, the cities of Damascus & Aleppo are some of the oldest & most incredible on Earth and its incredible culture, people and food have always fascinated us. In the heart of the Middle East, in what was Mesopotamia, and on the ancient Silk Road, Syria is at the cross road of civilisations. Even in its very recent history, Syria has been controlled by both the Ottoman's, the French to name a couple. Each different country has left its mark on Syria, making it one of the richest & most beautiful cultures not just in the Arab world, but on Earth.
Our journey starts in Beirut Lebanon, where we were picked up early in the morning and driven to the border, before attempting to cross in Syria and head straight for Damascus, the historic capital of the country.
Join us for one of the most intense travel days and overwhelming, interesting and crazy weeks in our lives. Welcome to Syria.

You can come to Syria anytime.
As a Greek Citizen you can get a tourist visa at the Syrian Embassy near Beirut, Lebanon.
It usually takes 4 to 5 working days to get the visa (in any case the only way for you to fly to Syria is Athens to Beirut and from Beirut you can catch a bus or shared taxi to Damascus).

Nobody can fly directly from Athens to Damascus because Greece doesn't have diplomatic relations with Syria.
If you want to land in Damascus you can fly from Athens to Dubai or Kuwait and from there get on a flight to Damascus.

This is the first time I've seen a travel vlog from Syria and it's so fascinating! The media usually shows Syria in a very different & negative way so I'm happy to see you documenting your travels there and showing the beautiful sides. It's hearthbreaking to see so many parts of the world, including Syria, being at war and people having to leave their homes. It would be super interesting to travel to this part of the world myself, really hope I'll be able to visit Syria and other countries in the region someday.

I actually asked him just last week if it is safe to travel to Syria (I just want to see this amazing country, a colleague of mine used to teach English in Syria before the war, and he said it was one of his favorite countries and THE BEST and the most beautiful in the region ), I wanted to visit then, but the war started.....Now I can speak a little Syrian Arabic, I just can't wait to use/practice it in real life, and visit all the amazing sites and try the food. Thanks for the video, I will seriously consider taking the trip. I really hope the misery in Syria can be over soon, peace and prosperity come back to this ancient land.

Hi Matt and Julia 👋. Another informative, interesting and heartwarming video. My heart goes out to the warm and friendly Syrian people who have endured and suffered so much. Thanks, for always focusing on the positive attributes of the cultures that you explore and showing the common threads that bind us all together as humans. Of course, thanks for all of your descriptive videos of the foods that you try(and enjoy). I'm still waiting for "smell-o-vision". 😂 Take care and have a safe and pleasant journey to your next destination. 🫂❤️🙏🌎🕊

Such important content. I spent 20 of my most formative years in Hong Kong and Singapore, at a time (late 60's to the late 80's) when South East Asia was considered nothing or for Vietnam. I have also traveled the world. It is such a shame that the people who need to watch your videos won't because more than anyone, they need to understand that we ARE all people who want the same for our families etc. Beyond the generalizations, thank you for showing us real life in a part of the world that is bursting at the seams with history, beauty and culture but one that has suffered so terribly (I will refrain from pointing fingers). This is the kind of content that should be mandatory watching for our kids so that they learn not to fear but rather embrace the world.
