      Mukhamad Muaffan that's not happening for along time if it even does happen. This is the Mac Pro that killed the Mac Pro. And by least upgradable in a long time do you mean ever you can't even really upgrade the gpu outside of the FirePro series they are literally over priced trashcans. And Artemis boopledoop your totally right I got a 2009 quad core for $150 and added an ssd, now it has like 3 tb of storage and I'm planning to upgrade to 12 gb of ram and a quadro gpu

    Honestly, people rag on this design and even I did back when it came out, but in the era of recycled product designs year after year, this thing has really grown on me. It's just so unique and so not Apple, but in the most Apple way. Wish I could've owned one in hindsight.

    Hi, I'm new to all of this. I recently bought a Panasonic GH4 and had recorded 4K footage. I want to edit it in iMovie and convert it as a 4k file, or upload it to youtube in 4K. iMovie doesn't seem to have a 4K option, since this is (from what i can tell), a very fast thing that can hold a lot of space, will this help my problem? For all the people saying build your own PC: Building a workstation that has dual Intel Xeon CPUs (not cheap) and twin workstation graphics cards (much more expensive than normal graphics cards) with pcie flash storage (that isn't limited by SATA connectors) would not end up being cheaper than a Mac Pro.

    I think people fail to realize that this is a PRO COMPUTER. If you want something to just browse the internet on, buy a iMac, or Mac Mini. That's why Apple makes those products.
    This computer is designed for running HUGE programs. Hollywood movies are edited on these. That cheesy #1 pop song you like? That was recorded into one of these. It's a PROFESSIONAL computer. Don't get pissy with the $3K+ price tag, because it was professional users that requested for Apple to make something like this. Not everyday users that want a "Tuff Tacital supa gamer computa" that they can brag about to other 12 year-olds on the internet about. There is a need for a computer like this in the world. Trust me.

      Pffft, "hollywood movies are edited on these"
      It literally has 256gb of storage, crap cooling, no full sized parts. Hollywood movies require huge machines with petabytes of storage, multiple server processors and multiple nvidia quadro cards that are restricted to real proffesional brands, not consumers. Apple products aren't powerful magic worth the money.

  • @Leester-70

    Intel processor, AMD graphics, DDR3 ram, PCIe drives.... how is this not a PC wrapped in a fancy shell? Is the OS worth that much of a price increase?
    The graphics cards are re-branded AMD Radeon HD 7870s. See where it lands on benchmarks here:
    www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
    The processor of the one in this video is the Intel Xeon E5-1650. See where it lands on benchmarks here:
    www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
    The ram is only 1866 DDR3, this is the lower end of the spectrum for DDR3 speeds, they go over 3000 (pending mobo and processor support).
    The motherboard is standard PC fare concerning Bus speed, PCI lanes, ect.
    Only 256GB of storage? Seriously?
    I don't get it, why would you pay 4 grand for this?

    Personally I would not have a problem spending that kind of money on a computer. Over the years I have learned that apple does have a more expensive product line and that's because of what you get. As it was shown in this video Every detail in the design and engineering is thought through not to mention these are most likely assembled by hand. For those that say they could get the same thing by building it your self, consider the fact that apple has engineered every component to be absolutely compatible with everything in the device. If you purchase a run of the mill computer off a big box store shelve those components are very random and I see have seen what issues that creates.

      Why is Ferrari more expensive then a Ford Mondeo? Why is it more expensive to take 1st class then 2nd class in an airplane? You pay for design, functionality! No matter what people say, Apple make wonderful products. If you cant effort them, buy a PC or an Android phone. Let me say I bought a Galaxy S4 after had every iPhone until iPhone 5. I got my phone stolen, and now what??? NOTHING 500$ in the trash. I bought an iPhone again, and thanks to the apps out there, I do not worry about getting my phone stolen. Picture and location will be sent directly to my email for a price of $4.99.. I will never recommend anything but Apple products.

    • @HaydnJeffries
      @HaydnJeffries 10 років тому +4

      Firstly, Immanuel Mio, the difference between automobiles and general computing technology is quite different and utterly incomparable. In a Mondeo, I believe that you get a 4 cylinder 90 bhp engine. In a Ferrari 458 you're getting a V8 and over 500 bhp engine. The premium comes from a vast difference in power, something that the Mac Pro does unfortunately not possess for its premium. Don't start this whole 'Can't afford them' nonsense. I could buy a Mac Pro this second, but I won't. Why? Because 1. I'm not brainwashed by Apple marketing and am actually educated enough in the technological space to realise that a PC of the same price would be four to five times the specification and 2. The applications available on the platform do not interest me one bit.
      Oh and finally, try to take better care of your phone. If not, there are applications available on Android to find your device, especially since Google released their own specifically recently. A final bit of advice before you go and post anything anywhere else; Pull your head out of your ass and use research to base your opinions on, not blind fanboyism.

    Unfortunately, because it says designed and assembled in California/USA, most people think that the entire machine bit by bit was created from scratch here in the USA.
    That would be grand and all, but it is misinterpreted and pretty upsetting when you try and explain that the parts still came from various Asian countries, and have people get red in the face saying that you are wrong.

    There’s nothing “high speed” about DDR3 RAM modules clocked at 1866MHz. ECC stands for “Error-Correcting Code.” When a system (such as a server for a multi million dollar company) is running computing tasks, its hyper critical that bytes of data don’t become garbled because these company’s and businesses rely on these servers or systems to function with out any errors. Solar flares, electromagnetic interference, power shorts/outages etc. can cause the information traveling between the CPU and and the ram modules to become garbled and by that I mean a 0 can be accidentally changed into a 1 and vise versa. ECC ram has an algorithm that recalls stored bytes of information to correct any fluctuations since a single bit of incorrect data can compromise an entire server which can have catastrophic effects. And generally since these modules have to perform the task of correcting errors they are lower performance. “High speed ram” is DDR4 with a clock of 3200MHz or higher.
    Edit: I didn’t see the date of the video I’m sure at the time this was high speed ram. My bad hahaha

      In anything? Care to be more specific?
      Does your 4,000 USD home built personal computer have a 12 core Xeon E5 CPU (costs around 2,500 USD, thus it is possible), 64 GB of ECC RAM (only costs a bit less than 1,000 USD), 1 TB of PCIe flash storage (costs a bit less than 1,000 USD), and two workstation grade FirePro GPUs with 6 GB of DDR5 RAM each (the equivalent W9000 costs a bit more than 3,000 USD, one card)?
      But then again, as long as Minecraft can be played at 1,000 fps on your computer, it is alright.

    I dont mean to start a PC vs Mac, because i hate those..
    But i dont understand spending 6,000 or there abouts on a Mac... when you can spend around 2,000 for the parts with the same specs and just boot it with Mac ?
    Even if you get someone to put it together for you, you end up with the same computer but so much cheaper.. thats if price is an issue.
    although this is pretty compact, and the design (besides looking like a garbage can) is actually pretty cool! so i guess you end up paying for the compact look haha

    • @terane_irl
      @terane_irl 10 років тому +1

      I'd like to see you try to do it for less... The cost of the graphics cards alone is almost the cost of the lowest end Mac Pro. Get your facts straight before u go ahead making such an ignorant comment.

    • @soccerjonesy
      @soccerjonesy 10 років тому +10

      ***** You do realize to match the graphic cards in the new Mac Pro alone cost over $6k, right? Then you have the 12 core processor which is gonna cost over $2k, maybe even close to $3k. Throw in the 1 TB flash storage, 64 gb of ram, etc. The cost to build something to match this Mac Pro will cost you around $10-11k
      I've always been an Apple fan, everything I own technology wise is nearly Apple product. However, I'll still admit, without hesitation, that Apple products are indeed overpriced, when you can build something better for less. What you're paying for in an Apple is quality, a device that will last you years on end like my oldest Macbook at nearly 7 years old and still works like a charm. This new Mac Pro though, it just blew my mind. Not only are you paying for the quality, but it's the first Mac computer I've ever seen that is worth it's price tag too.
      So, before you go around telling others, make sure you know how much it would cost to actually build a computer on this scale. You'll end up running into even a PC enthusiast that will put you in your place.

    • @soccerjonesy

      That's really interesting. Quick question though... Where did you find that much TB to go into a PC? Most can only hold up to 4-5 TB internally built, also, hard-drives don't even come in anything over 4 TB, so this is very interesting indeed...
      Next up, graphic cards. The AMD FirePro D700 aren't sold comercially, exclusive only to the Mac Pro. To match the D700s, you need the AMD FirePro W9000, which has the exact same specs as the D700s. Those cost $3400 a piece. There are 2 in the Mac Pro. Those alone are $6400.
      The Mac Pro processor at the $9.5k scale is a 12 core Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2. That costs another $2800.
      Now for it's storage. Mac Pro doesn't use an HDD, it uses a SSD, meaning faster response times. It doesn't have to wait for the HDD to boot up, it's near instant. Let's say we're going to use a relatively cheap internal SSD for $600 if you could find one.
      Time for the Memory. Since we're using the maxed out Mac Pro, we're aiming for the 64 GB Ram. We need 4 16GB memory cards, coming out to roughly $1600 combined.
      Now, let's add just these few items up. These are the items you need to attempt to even match the Mac Pro in specs.
      So that's... 6400+2800+600+1600 = $11,400
      You're spending $11,400 on something you hand built with no warranty on it if it breaks, with no reliability when it gets old. Just a powerful PC with a "sick custom paint job" (throw in a few hundred more for that paint job buddy).
      So I'm finding it pretty unlikely you built a PC on par with this Mac Pro... Seems like you're full of shit.

    • @TheOrangeType
      @TheOrangeType 10 років тому +1

      Chris Licata Yeah, its user replacable. Lets just add on another £250 to get a 512GB SSD. Or £400 for a Terabyt because, lets face it, the market for one of these is going to basically require a 1TB SSD/HDD.

      After seeing iFixit's teardown, I would not be surprised if the GPUs aren't user replaceable as well. They have a proprietary connector, but that's not stopped people before. Since one GPU card has the mSATA port or whatever that is for the SSD, theoretically one could buy a second, identical GPU with the slot as well and have dual slots and SSDs. Also the CPU is user removable
