Happy Birthday I,m 66 now and thinking about another Royal enfield to go with my Bullet trials. Theyre another world from all the modern stuff Ive had. Keep em coming and thnx. Regards Stuart from NE England.
I'm in the U.S. I have a 2013 B5 Bullet B5, just like Daisy Belle. Even the same color. I bought it new. I quickly converted it to an Amal carburetor and an aftermarket "peashooter" style exhaust, both from Hitchcocks. They sell a kit to convert the pre 2017 EFI tank to accept a petcock, and all the parts to install the carburetor. I run the exhaust without the removeable baffle. I did have to replace the exhaust header studs with drilled and safety wired bolts to prevent them from coming loose. I also replaced the headstay with one like you have the first year I had it, before it broke. I read a lot of comments on the Classic Motorworks forums complaining about them breaking. The stock one is very flimsy, and the Bullet 500 engine does vibrate. I have over 20,000 miles on the aftermarket exhaust, and so far it's been fine. I don't know what the difference is. I threw the stock exhaust away. It was huge, heavy, had a catalytic converter in it, which caused the entire exhaust to run super hot, and didn't sound good to me. I wanted my bike to sound like a proper long stroke British single. When I first got my bike, with the EFI, it was way too lean, so lean it would barely run. The spark plug insulators were absolutely white. And putting a less restrictive exhaust on will make it even leaner. The carburetor is what made mine run so well. I did both the exhaust and carburetor conversion at the same time, and it ran 100% better. The plug insulators are now a dark brown color. And I have never rejetted the carburetor. So apparently it was jetted rich enough to begin with. I ride mine around 55 mph, which is 88-89 kph. I think you mean "backpressure" with the exhaust. I don't think I would have a problem with the looks of the stock exhaust, if it only weighed half as much, sounded better, and didn't have a catalytic converter in it. I do like chrome. Lots of chrome. I am very interested in how you installed that Classic tank. Do you know what year it is from? Was it just a bolt on, or were some modifications required? Hitchcocks wants £295.00 for a 2013 Classic chrome/black tank. That would be around $400 USD with shipping. I want to lighten up the look of my bike a bit, and I love the look of that chrome tank. Also, where did you get that seat and rack? Were they difficult to install? I don't carry passengers either, I like the way they look, and a rack would be very convenient. I had to replace my chain after only a couple thousand miles. Along with new rear brake pads. The rear brake locked up on me as I was pulling into a parking lot. Luckily I didn't crash, but it bent the chain. I think the original chain was really cheap. the radius (curvature) of the brake pads didn't match the radius of the drum. Only the ends of the brake pads were making contact with the drum. They wore down quickly, causing the pads to open apart a bit too much, and get jammed into the full open position. The new pads I got from Hitchcocks fit properly. The new chain was much better quality. I replaced the chain and both sprockets about 3,000 miles ago. The front sprocket is a real pain to get to.
Regarding the tank, I think it's from the same pre 2017 era of Bullet/Classics? It seems after 2017 they changed how the tank bolts to the rest of it (mainly the sort of fish tail extension coming out of the back of the tank that fits under the saddle, for lack of a better word for it 😅) To my knowledge it was pretty much bolt on, we reused all the other bits and bobs from the old tank and put em in the new one. The seat was fitted by the previous owner (thankfully he gave me the stock seat too so it's there if I need it!), but the rack is also from Hitchcocks. Both are simple enough to install, just bolt on pretty much, even I could do it and that's saying something 😂 Scary stuff, glad it was only pulling into a parking lot! I also had the cheaper chain from Hitchcocks (which I think is the same as the stock one) when I bought a sprocket/chain replacement kit, she really went through that fast so I changed to the Reynolds chain Hitchcocks has, lasts much longer 🤞 Although, I think my friend Naim has an x-ring chain of some type fitted to his Bullet that seems to last even longer, must ask him what brand next time I'm changing!
@@BulletWanderer Thanks for the reply. I still want that tank. I can't afford to buy one without knowing for sure that it will fit. I asked on the Classic Motorworks forum, which is the "unofficial" Royal Enfield forum, but haven't gotten an answer there yet either. I may email Hitchcocks to see if they know. Maybe you're the first one to do it.
I have the same model and color. Really love this bike, the enfields made from like 2017 to 2021 were the best ones, they were the perfect balance between old and new school technology. Lovely bikes aren't they! I like the new Classic and Bullet 350s, but definitely feel they could have incorporated the LCD screen better than it currently is, if it had to have one.
I love the look of the Royal Enfield. A friend of my told me it was his dream bike. My Super dream 400 is in bit. I would like some thing reliable. The only thing is I am 5' 2".
Happy Birthday Brendan! Daisey sounds great, which surprised me when we could see the OEM torpedo exhaust. Go figure. The new tank looks great, that is probably the best looking tank of the B5s. The solo seat gives Daisey a good look. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this Video ! This is the England I wish to see one day . I am almost 62 so i need to do it if i am going to do it . I love the 500cc Enfield. I have been into Triumphs most of my life . Daisy is a Beautiful Girl ! Good Luck from Tennessee.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the video, but this is Ireland, not England 😁 . Daisy's only been to Wales in the UK, but some day would love to explore more over there!
Brendan, the bike is grand! With the array of different parts and the patina it has developed, the bike has a wonderful personality. Don't change a thing, well, except for the rear sprocket.
Brendan bike looks great with the clasic chrome tank. Guess ul have put in the small white faced dial to match the spedo now to finish off the classic look❤
Marvellous new livery for a new era. Best days are to come. I'm glad you put the stainless head steady on, it's one modification I made on my Bullet that I'm most pleased with. I'm also considering returning to stock exhaust to save my ears. I'll be watching to see how it goes.
Happy birthday! The new tank looks great! It was funny sitting here, near Boston, watching your father in Waterford (?) listening to Boston! (I won't say anything about the sprocket even though I have never lost any teeth :) )
That tank looks lovely. I really like that colour combo. I recently bought one of the new Bullet 350s and started my own channel. These bikes are fabulous.
She looks and sounds great mate. Listening to your intro reminded me of something we say here in Australia - It's Grandad's axe, it's had three new handles and two new heads but it's still Grandad's axe.😆
Daisy Bell is looking fine. I love the fender plaque. 👍 I picked up a 17' Classic/Bullet yesterday. Rode a bit hard the previous 5000 miles but it is still running. I'll have to go through the bike.
"Brough Inferior"! That one was funny as hell Brendan! Lawrence of Arabia must be laughing his bones off his tomb!💀 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Lovely sense of humor! 👍 Regards from Brazil for you and for your beloved, and now chrome shinny, Daisy. Had to edit to add: Happy Birthday! Had to edit again to say: the first petrol sip on a new tank is More Than a Feeling. 😉
Cheers Felipe, i'm glad you enjoyed that one 😂 And good ears (better than UA-cam's copyright detecting system which fortunately did not pick up on Boston being played 😂)
Happy 30th Brendan 🎂, Daisy Bell is looking good mate… I ran my cast iron 500 for a few years with the chrome & black tank bought from the importer here in Australia as it had original screw in rubber knee pads on it.. loved the look of it.. the quality of finish was disappointing 6/10, then decided a couple of years ago to put the original black tank back on as I’ve been unable to find a high quality made chrome/black with knee pads to suit my 2006 model, they do make a bullet pop. Great update video.. cheers Phil 🇦🇺
Cheers Phil! I've seen those tanks of that era before, pretty nice looking, but unfortunate yours had a poorer finish to it. Is the black one one of those with Royal Enfield written in gold writing with a gold oval around it? Look pretty nice too!
Second tank, ha. I'm on my second one too. Fixing point welds not to good . Por15 tank sealer does it for a couple of years until the vibrations opens the welds again.
@@BulletWanderer , I'm watching you have every problem I've had to date so far. Keep an eye on your clutch around 35k miles. It'll start to slip. Piss easy to change it yourself.
I think Daisy looks awesome with the chrome tank…. She now looks the same as my Bella. One word of advice, never fill the tank to the brim. When you put it on the side stand it will leak and damage the black paint strip!. Also thanks for the tyre info. Just being a bit deeper in depth make them look more vintage.
Good advice Ryan, cheers! I tend to fill up on the sidestand anyhow so at least I know where the level is at. Might fill it a little less next time to account for the fuel sloshing around as we fly round country lanes 😆 Hope the tyre info helps!
Great looking fuel tank 😀 I bought exactly the same for my other Classic 500 that I bought new in stealth black, not my style but it was probably the last Classic 500 in Australia in 2023 when I bought it new. The tank really lifted it, anyway nice choice Brendon😁
Great new look for your bike Brendan, you may want to consider a slightly smaller rear sprocket with one or two teeth less. It will give you a more relaxed cruising speed and doesn't really effect the acceleration much at all, due to the nice torque on the 500's 🙂
I'll think about it! Might have to get a smaller chain to compensate though, and Daisy's flushed out the funds on the new tank so might stick with stock for now 😅 Maybe next time the front sprocket needs replacing I'd change the ratios 🤔
You should perhaps add a new front sprocket as well with a few more teeth, to get a bit more top end speed. I think I might do that with my 2007 bullet 500 iron barrel.
She's looking well. Transmission parts tend to wear each other, so a worn chain will prematurely wear the sprockets, and vice versa. Overtightened chains can knock out wheel and engine bearings, it's best practice to have little bit of slack at the tightest part of the chain, sprockets never being perfectly round. A lot of channels fit new parts to get views, then make more content about why they changed them back again, so I figure I'm ahead keeping my 350 stock. Given the tax and postage, I'm wondering if you should've got a train to Solihull and stocked up on booty from Hitchcocks'?
Something you might be interested in; an Indian company named ‘Legundary’ does a belt drive conversion for the Classic 500. I fitted the conversion to mine and it was great: no lost teeth, no chain adjust or lubricant needed. Worth looking out for. Safe riding 😀👍
@@BulletWanderer no noticeable power loss. (I wouldn’t have done the conversion otherwise). I’d be happy to convert any future bikes to belt, but my current bike is a Moto Guzzi and needs neither chain nor belt. Happy riding 😀👍
You should probably check with Hitchcock's. My understanding is you should change the chain and front sprocket at the same time. Plus the rear sprocket interacts with the rear brake shoes. So it might be a good idea to get new shoes ad well. I am switching to the 19t front sprocket. My rear sprocket teeth looked fine but i figured better safe then sorry. This way all the parts will mate together properly.
It's hard to tell to be honest Stuart 🤔 then again Daisy's never been too vibratey below 50mph anyways. It is worth doing though for peace of mind, and it might make a bit of a difference ify ou have a particularly rattly Classic 500!
always watched you , just a heads up about the sprocket. mine did the same i kept mine as a memento as such sad i know but just expect the unexpected as a new chain front and rear sprocket set is best way to go and an easy solution for me was to remove the rear mudguard and suspension as a peace of mind and i replaced the cush rubbers as the hub and sprocket is one piece and fully cleaned everything.. Ps all India 1 weeks shipping to northwest England. just a heads up on shipping to avoid taxes ,, do separate orders under the threshold if you message the seller direct they will be very helpful with this for you.
Happy Birthday, Brendan! Welcome to the 30's. Now you're expected to behave like an adult. Oh what the hell, screw that. Just enjoy every day. Most of all, keep the vids coming. When it's 100 freakin degrees over here I can enjoy your rides in what looks like much cooler conditions.
Cheers Brian 😂 It's back to rain here in Ireland again only the next day after this video, so much cooler conditions 😆 Looks like it'll creep into the 20o Celcius over here at the end of the month so hope to have a new sprocket ready and going by then! 🤞
Cheers! The single seat is from Hitchcocks, it's this one, I believe! accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/11486?cont_page=Royal-Enfield-B5-Accessories&Keyword=seat
All the time i have been the throttle cable always leaves me scratching my head . Why does it move with throttle ? Shouldn't it stay in place while the inner cable moves ?
Maybe taking the magnets out and finding a different way to attach one to the tank is the way forward.. Then again, coat zips are prone to giving little scratches to the tank 🤷♂ For now I'll do without though. Maybe next year if I'm touring again 🤞
Stock is usually way better quality than aftermarket and bike set to run on it. People spend a fortune on go faster stuff. Particularly 350classic. If you want performance you got the wrong bike. Spend it on fuel . Plus noisy exhaust is ok for short runs. Too tiring on long run . then again when i was young i liked a noisy pipe.
I agree with you there! On another one of my videos someone said something to the effect of "The Bullet is from a time when 50mph was as fast as you would go on roads". Go far slowly with the 500s and 350s I reckon!
Only two RE service centers in Ireland, but both are a couple hours away from where I live unfortunately! I do have a local mechanic I trust to do the bigger jobs with Daisy though.
She needs a set of crashbars to protect that beautiful 😍 gas tank. The RE 500 Bullet is the only one I would buy. With a proper carburetor no EFI and all the crap that goes with it. I love my vintage British motorcycles. They make me smile 😁 when I ride them.l have a HD Sportster 883 l have had for 25 years. Love the feeling of a real bike.
I'm not a fan of the crashbars myself 😅 I do have one, but just don't like the look it gives to the bike! To me, what will happen will happen, i'll just take extra care to not drop poor Daisy 😂
Yes my previous 2008 efi chrome 500 had a rear drum and it was just too weak for two up riding which we mainly use the bike for. The rear disc is a marked improvement. Not triggered ABS on it in two years 🤣
That sprocket is absolutely shagged right out. The front one cant be much better and the chain needs chucking as well. Lucky that Enfield parts are easy to find 👍
G’day Brendan, I agree with everything you said on this video. I went back to a stock muffler after using the Hitchcocks pea shooter for a while. I prefer the original , which surprised me. The new tank looks splendiforous. Oh, almost forgot…Happy Birthday mate 🎉🎉🎂🍻😁. Please don’t let Mr. saddlebags 73 know, however it looks like I am about to buy my RE Tribute 500 back, you may remember I let you know I sold her a little while ago. She is for sale in a dealership not too far from me, I am still considering buying her back, something is missing in life, it’s been like saying Hooroo to my best mate since letting her go..,. Although I do own too many bikes…what a dilemma….Watch this space🤷🏻♂️🫣🤣🤣. Enjoy your summer, winter has hit here therefore I am looking forward to seeing you riding in summer weather as a reminder to me that summer will return someday. @@BulletWanderer I can definitely understand that. As an American, I think I'm going to do it because people drive really fast over here lol..
Probably would've worked out a bit cheaper, plus a nice adventure on top! 😅
Something you might be interested in; an Indian company named ‘Legundary’ does a belt drive conversion for the Classic 500. I fitted the conversion to mine and it was great: no lost teeth, no chain adjust or lubricant needed. Worth looking out for. Safe riding 😀👍
Power loss .
An interesting thought to be sure 🤔 Was there much loss of power? Not that they have much to begin with 😆
@@BulletWanderer no noticeable power loss.
I’m always petrified of scuffing my chrome tank 🫣
Looks great Bullet. Definitely gateway-worthy 👌🏼
The sprocket though 😮 Meh! Be alright won’t it 🤣
Great video. The animations you did are great, please do share are you a professional animator? I could use something like that for my channel.
Cheers AJ! I used to be, anyways; now just do it for fun 😁
Looking good Brendan, did the replacement engine bracket make a big difference to vibration levels? I have a classic 500 which rattles my bones!
It's hard to tell to be honest Stuart 🤔 then again Daisy's never been too vibratey below 50mph anyways. It is worth doing though for peace of mind, and it might make a bit of a difference ify ou have a particularly rattly Classic 500!
She is looking FINNNEEEE 😍🔥🥰
Cheers Ferdia! 😁 Hope your travels are going well (saw on Instagram you're without the BMW for the time being, good luck!)
always watched you , just a heads up about the sprocket. mine did the same i kept mine as a memento as such sad i know but just expect the unexpected as a new chain front and rear sprocket set is best way to go and an easy solution for me was to remove the rear mudguard and suspension as a peace of mind and i replaced the cush rubbers as the hub and sprocket is one piece and fully cleaned everything.. Ps all India 1 weeks shipping to northwest England. just a heads up on shipping to avoid taxes ,, do separate orders under the threshold if you message the seller direct they will be very helpful with this for you.
Bought new cush rubbers along with the other bits to be safe 😁 Ended up going Hitchcocks again, i'll take the income duty 😅
30! Feck. That was such a long time ago😂
30! Feck, even my son is older than that! Happy birthday, hope it was a good un.
@@martinowl , my bike jacket is even waaaay past 30.
@@thebimblewizard1242 brilliant, lol👍
I'm not a fan on the look of the factory exhaust but love the mellow thump.
It's a trade off, to each their own I suppose! 😁
Back pressure
Couldn't think of the word, thank you! 😁
Hello. Thanks for your videos. Please tell me if your single seat is the low seat sold by Royal Enfield or is it some other seat.
Thanks
Cheers! The single seat is from Hitchcocks, it's this one, I believe! accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/11486?cont_page=Royal-Enfield-B5-Accessories&Keyword=seat
Easiest way to convert KM to Miles/MPH is half it and add a quarter eg 80km is 40+10 =50mph
This blew my mind! I've just been mentally memorising what the different 10s of mph are in Kph, thank you for sharing! 😁
back pressure,40,000, miles,great.
Cheers Mike! Back pressure was the word I was looking for 😅
All the time i have been the throttle cable always leaves me scratching my head . Why does it move with throttle ? Shouldn't it stay in place while the inner cable moves ?
Yeah I agree about the tank bag. The one you've got is nice but they do scratch the tank up. I don't like them
Maybe taking the magnets out and finding a different way to attach one to the tank is the way forward..
That's a classic 500 chrome, it's popular here in india, should've upgraded to a 650 twin though.
Respectfully disagree, its just a classic 500 chrome tank, and the Bullet 500 Daisy Bell is my dream bike, could never upgrade from her 😍
Have you done in royal Enfield service centre or local garage bcoz in India many local garage are expert in modifying bullet...
Snap, I've got a 2017 Classic chrome E4, rear disc, abs, all the modern gizmos 😂
No shame in that Trevor, sometimes I wish Daisy had rear disc and ABS 😅
Yes my previous 2008 efi chrome 500 had a rear drum and it was just too weak for two up riding which we mainly use the bike for. The rear disc is a marked improvement. Not triggered ABS on it in two years 🤣
V2, sooooo does she go like a rocket ? :)
Maybe a few kph slower 😂😂
That sprocket is absolutely shagged right out. The front one cant be much better and the chain needs chucking as well. Lucky that Enfield parts are easy to find 👍
Fortunate to have Hitchcocks nearby over in the UK, just painful with Brexit imposing income duty 😅
Personaly i find the bike better looking with this gastank and exhaust. Certainly sounds better.
Gives it a more 50,s look
Glad you agree! Leaning a bit more into the old fashioned look is what I wanted 😁
That Daisy Belle sign on the front mudguard should be removed. If you hit a pedestrian that would do serious damage as its so sharp.
@@gabrieloneill968 the safest thing would be to remove the bike from the road altogether
More camping for 2025?
Don’t do just the one sprocket. It will prove to be false economy.
Classic 500, not Bullet.
Take care mate, shiny side towards the sky. Hooroo for now 🏍👍😎
Cheers! That's great to hear, hopefully you get her back soon! Better make some space for her 😁
She needs a set of crashbars to protect that beautiful 😍 gas tank. The RE 500 Bullet is the only one I would buy .
