    I totally agree about less is more, especially these days where a lot of street photographers walk around with so much gear, although it feels counter productive. For me it's all about simplifying the process. Cheers Robin, great photos.

    Yes it makes sense!I have this camera now for 5 weeks in use.It changed my way of looking at the world.You learn to think in strengths of light, the interference of light with the world.
    The pictures coming out of this beauty have a special character and filmic as well.Noise at high iso is just not an issue up to iso 25600!This gives you much more freedom: freedom in its very limitation.If you want something beautiful , go for the Q2M, you won’t regret!!

    • @therealsirrobin

    Bought the M246 Monochrome a few months ago. Did a shoot in Chicago last week, Q2, M Monochrome and M6. By far loved the M Monochrome the most. SUCH a great camera so if you love B&W and its "your thing" it really does make sense to get a dedicated Monochrome.

    I agree with your commentary with regard to the benefits of using a dedicated mono camera. I came across another person's comment.

    I enjoy watching you scout out the scene and look for interesting light. That is a good technique. I also like that you make black and white prints. It brings me back to my days in a high school darkroom. The idea of “less is more” is totally true, even more so today when it is technically possible to carry around gear that covers every type of photography and focal length all at once!

    That taxi shot would've been nice with both hands in the air (with the back passenger). Very spooky, only the other day I was shooting with my Q2 plus a set of monochrome filers. Set the camera to jpgs only and mono hi contrast setting and a red filter which I found to contrasty so changed to an orange filter which I found much better. Was very quite impressed with the images although not as good as using a Q2M and Dng's. great video, thanks.

    Phenomenal video Robin - I really enjoyed the mixture of philosophy / making the active choice to shoot B&W and a single focal length plus the photo walk and the results. Great to see your chosen photos in print form at the end. I'm torn between #2 and #3, leaning slightly toward the latter. There were plenty of other photos that came close - this was a tough "contact sheet" to edit to the top 4. As for using a monochrome camera in a vivid country, after a few weeks using my new Q2M in Mexico, and comparing my previous GRIII colour/B&W conversions, I'm getting better compositions with the former because I'm not distracted by the colours. No, it doesn't suit every location and every scene, but my eye is starting to focus in on individual elements, shadows, and contrast, with (in my mind) more visually interesting results. It really helps using a monochrome viewfinder too - beats the old Wratten viewing filter by a mile!

    As always, great shots! To answer your question though, I see no benefit or edge to shooting with this particular camera or any other camera with a dedicated b&w sensor. I've shot with my Nikon D5600, Fuji X-E3, strictly in the B&W setting, and am disciplined enough to stick to one lens and to b&w whole shooting. Not that difficult to do. 🤔

    • @therealsirrobin

      @@therealsirrobin I always shoot RAW and edit and print my photos. But I honestly don't think the "magical" red dot on that camera is going to make anyone's images any better. Anyways, as I previously stated, great images. Thanks for sharing.

    • @ElRobin
      @ElRobin 3 роки тому

      @@atroche1978 a monochrome sensor will give you better dynamic range and low light performance since it is more sensible to light without having the color sensors taking up space. Also you get a great variety of grey tones than with a color sensor and converting to b&w digitally. However I agree that if you don’t know how to compose and expose, it won’t make you take better photos.

    Is it worth getting and use (hopefully) a 6000 Euro camera?? I'd say no but if there is a market for it, Leica would be stupid not to make a product for it. I appreciate your work, Sir Robin ;)

    Call me ignorant, but I don’t get it. For the crazy money Leica commands I’d want to be able to shoot color as well. Love your channel.

    Of course it makes sense. It is exactly how U said ”less is more” I love less. Thats why i like Leica. Man you have balls to point your camera almost to their face. Hold your expensive camera tight U may get ”a punch” 😅. Most of my street pictures are BW. M10+Summicron28 and love the results. I wanted monochrome sensor camera first. Reason i took color is i like to take photographs of my children in color. Color=happy kids😅and using 50mm then. Oh btw i have same black strap its nice n soft haha
