this is my childhood game, i get quivering shivers everytime i see the nintendo logo at the start. this game is an everlasting epic piece of gold. the soundtrack already makes it infinite
That was such a great run. I was going to go to sleep but I saw this and I HAD to watch it and as always I'm glad I did. GREAT RUNS. I can't stress that enough.
It's interesting how in 2013 SGDQ, they giggle every time he mentions he's saving 10-15 frames every trick. But in 2014, I didn't notice as much giggles. It's becoming less nerdy to say that stuff. :)
ya know-I sometimes ran into a strange glitch with my game when I was a kid-in the first world, when going between cranky's house and the next level, if I pressed...whatever button to enter a level, it would warp me to a level later on in the game, that I THINK was in the forest world-I remember it was a level with Ostro up on top of a hill, cause that's where you'd warp to. I don't really know what's up with that, how to do it, why it happened, etc...was hoping somebody might know

I think they said that the barrel is only there if you're playing as Donkey Kong. The barrel appears the instant they switch from Diddy Kong to Donkey Kong.
Mezzoponte My best guess is that it depends on how fast you get to the spot. I tried doing it slow and it didn't work, then I did it as fast as I could and it worked.
I've been playing video games since i could walk. I've heard ppl use the term "Pro", but until i watched Awesome games done quick i didnt think it was possible to be this good. My jaw literally dropped when they glitched the mine cart area by doing nothing but spamming jump and roll.
Press left and right on a snes made link moonwalk because the game used one animation and he moved backwards this is not possible in emulator because it is software and the glitch is hardware I used a retro controller that didn't have the thing in the + center prevent U from press 2 opposite button

Why didn't they use the glitch to basicly skip the first three worlds? As speedrunners, i am pretty sure they know about that. so is that glitch forbidden (Which I doubt, since it'S speedrunnign we're talking about) or what?
Later answer, but we were doing the "All Stages" category. So using that glitch isn't allowed. There is an even faster way of beating the game, in under 9 minutes, but that is disallowed for this category too.
I think I could actually beat this. I've attempted a speed run on this game a long time ago and got through the first 4 worlds at mach speed without so much as a hiccup. If I find the time to sit down and commit myself to it, I'll record and upload.
Tompa is typically a TAS runner for this game, which gives the added benefit of being able to use save states to correct mistakes, not somehting you can do in an IRL run.
The game is very hard, I first started playing it in 1995 and didn't manage to complete it untill 2008. I didn't have the patience when I was younger, I would rage quit all the time.

Agreed, it's 20 years old now and still looks and plays like it's new. The music still sounds amazing as well. This is just a timeless classic.

I'm kind of surprised that neither one of these guys attempted the world warp on the map in the first world. I thought it was a speedrun after all.
