I have this Jimny’s Grandpapa here in India…the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. It is a veritable mountain goat. It is still sold in NZ as the Suzuki Farm Worker for use exclusively on farms and is not to be driven on the road. However the farm worker is a short wheelbase whereas the Gypsy in India is a slightly longer wheelbase. Because the Gypsy in India has been for 35-36 years, the preferred light transport and quick deployment go anywhere vehicle for our Armed Forces and Police and Forest Services etc.

I love this car. Fitted with a lift kit, slightly bigger tires, and a locking diff it turns into a surprisingly capable (and reliable) vehicle. And the size, well,... when I was younger, I used to travel through Africa and Asia with a motorcycle. Once you've done that, you'll find the comfort level and the load-carrying capacity of the Jimny not only sufficient, it's impressive😁

I am not a real off-road enthusiast, I live in Milan and have never considered it worthwhile to own such a vehicle. But when I tried my sister's Jimny in Ibiza, I fell in love with it. Easy to drive off-road for a beginner like me, it is a very practical vehicle, essential but capable of doing much more than what you would expect. You hit the nail. Jimny is a perfect car for many couples, even in the city, given its size. It is only sa shame that the approval does not allow 2 rear seats. I now have a Smart car, perfect in the city for someone who doesn't want kids, but I think my next car will be the Jimny, because it conveys the desire to get off the roads and have fun. Great video!

This review evoked fond memories of the original SJ-413! - We bought it (used) as my ex's first car, and though it was no RangeRover, it was a great little 4WD to drive around town, I'd say that wintertime showed it's _real_ force: you started it up, and by the time it was swept free of snow. the heater was running nice & warm inside the cabin (not forgetting the added enjoyment of readily towing free Mercedes and whatnot stuck in the snowdrifts!).- Finding this video of the 2019 Jimny (many car makes & models) later, makes me realize I'd gladly go for one! - Thanks for posting this, greetings from Norway!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💓

I rented a previous gen Jimny on Iceland a couple of years ago. It was bloody fantastic! Well yes, it was loud when driving off road, the steering vague, and the old 1.3 was under powered, but man was it a fun drive. In about 10 days me and a friend drove around the whole country and taking it to several F-roads. It was always clear to me that its limits was at a far higher point than my own. Also the feeling of accomplishment when getting to a point at the F-road where all the other vehicles was Land Cruisers and HiLuxes on 38" + tires was fantastic.
Oh how I love the Jimny. If only i could afford having two cars, I would love to own one.

    Andrew,
The Gen3 Jimny Automatic had an adaptive gearbox. Meaning, if the computer wouldn’t change gears as expected a hard reset would handle the problem.
    Gen3; 1st reset method:
Fully disconnect the battery for >35 minutes.
    Gen3; 2nd reset method:
Disconnect the plus & minus battery connectors from the battery. Connect the plus & minus connectors to each other for more than 10 seconds.
    Gen3; 3rd reset method:
Find the little white connector at the steering column and shortcut it with a paper clip for a few seconds.
All three methods will reset the adaptive system/
computer and allow it to relearn your personal driving style.
    - It is likely that the Gen4 Automatic has the same, or similar, system. Meaning a reset of the computer will handle the issue you had.
    Best regards
    ..Boris

9:15 heh, it's funny you say that, I understand your wisdom, however my own experience is to the contrary, in fact there is a joke at an offroad site I visit that there is a track called "Jimny hill". Because the only lightly modified vehicles able to make it up it are Jimnys and dirt bikes/ATVs.
I think it's the combination of a very steep incline & a very lumpy surface, the Jimny just bounces and scrabbles up, the Discos and Defenders seem to bog and lose momentum.
And yes, whilst your rear passenger space is limited, the load space is very square & useable.

Thank you Andrew, We have owned Suzuki 4X4's since 1980 starting with the LJ80 up to the current Jimny all being manual never tried an Auto,
& we have covered many hundreds of thousand km from the top end down the centre (When it was still dirt road) & East to West 13 times, &
anywhere in between. They have always had a 40lt tank with an average range of 430km so twin jerry can's in side sponsons gave us around 860km
A little mostly unknown fact is that when the Japanese decided to build these they based them off the Original WW2 Willy's Jeep,
If you check they are very similar in size & mechanical set up drum brake's etc & originally up until the Sierra in their appearance.
Anyway, thank you for once again another unbiased review, one more thing on Overlanding one of our longest stints camping/travelling was 22 days
you just have to plan the trip very well, but I definitely don't have to tell you of all people that fact. LOL

To me I have'nt rushed out to buy one even though this a favourite of mine. Thats because, to me UK isn't car country. its way so busy here, too many cars, too busy and compact , man made maze, no quite open roads between cities and the insurance racket here in the UK is a pain in the arse! so I use my feet walk, the bus , run and cycle . • @kylebudd5479

The 1.5ddis is a solid engine, our swift 4x4 rally car has 15k miles of rallying on it (that’s like 300k of combined driving and 200k of high heat off roading), if any one does buy it and it shares as much with the old jimny + the 1.5 as I think it does I would recommend before putting any load on to it or doing any work I would replace all the mounts and bushes with poly bushes and I would option it with the manual, I haven’t had a suzuki box fail on me apart from the usual rear transfer prop seal which is inconvenient but not the end of the world, at most a couple of hours. If you want to turbo it use the 1.3 swift turbo or the turbo from a 1.6 diesel sx4 (same manifold and you should be able to use the same oil tap for the turbo as exists already on the 1.5 oil pan. Another thing I would suggest is pegging the differential and bracing the axle if you have a locker and have slightly bigger tyres because previous gens of Jimmy’s had Micky mouse differentials that puller the pinion out (literally folds the differential inside its self) as I say that can be easily mitigated by pegging the diff and probably putting some bracing around the axles as they are only sheet metal.
Don’t mistake any of this for problems as such but if any of those scenarios arise take what I said into consideration
Also wheel bearings are made of cheese so get some good aftermarket stuff with a good load and chunky tyres the bearings will beat themselves to pieces

Jimny's aren't a car to test drive. You need to own one, and once you do you'll never sell it. I met a RCAF Spitfire pilot who got to fly one of the later Mk.'s. He took off on the west coast of England out to sea and circled back over land to get his bearings, but had a problem finding landmarks. He rechecked his map and then looked out again and saw water. He had crossed the breadth of England in the time he would normally have had to find his bearings.

When the Jimmy was announced I was moments away from signing the dotted line... Holding out for a 6+ speed auto for now. The last shape Jimmy got a new engine and diff ratios 3 years after launch so I'm hoping new gearbox options come shortly.
After owning the last shape Jimmy I would go with the auto. Due to the smaller tyres and short wheelbase, technical obstacles need to be taken slower, and the manual low range isn't quite low enough. Lots of stalling, clutch riding and clutch dumps.

it depends on are of overlanding... europe trip is overlanding too but you have petrol station everywhere so its ok to have small fuel tank
and he confirmed that car can be good enough depends where you live , what are around you that you can drive what surface is there... we must just move on from that old thinking that off roader for weekend fun must be live axles heavy old 4x4 car that uses lots of petrol. these days we can have all that with electronic traction controls and such...and fuel usage its very important thing to make your day or ruined it
Andrew you should try on similar locations some new subaru outback , it would go even better then jimny and have plenty of space too , more ground clearance etc. again you dont know what you didint tried yet , so still plenty things in life that can surprise you ...
