I love Fantasy Zone 2 so much. Anyone who is able to play the 3DS version via Sega 3D Classics Collection really should. The 2008 arcade remake is also very nice.
Hilarious how the only shot you could drop in Great Basketball was near half court. Everything else I saw were just maddening brick after brick. Cheers on enduring even more.
I'm glad Konami created the standard for pushing a button to select your character on the field. The "we'll choose for you" approach from these Great titles can be frustrating.

So why didn't they call the flippin' thing the Sega Trackball?! I know what a trackball is! I also know what a "sports pad" is, and this ain't it!
Surely someone has made the “Great, Soccer/Basketball/etc” joke by now. This series has been truly great though. I completely missed out on Sega’s output until the Genesis years, and the history lesson had been a real trip.
Mreh, not really for the TG16. Much as Tonka effectively buried the Master System in the USA; they didn't know much what to do with the Turbographix 16 in the USA. So instead of an appealing mascot who could actually attract customers, they made the confusing Johnny Turbo.
Worth noting that RealSports Soccer on Atari 5200 came out in 1983 and was pretty darn good. Not having played the sega version here, I cant compare, but i can say its at least on par with NES Soccer.

It's nice that Sega was making baby steps towards consoles with game designs and it's great that Fantasy Zone II ends 1987 on a good note. And I'm definitely excited for the new road map to The Great Convergence of the Works series.
World/Great Soccer was the moment I realised my cousin had somehow a modded American Master System as his console was 60 Hz (something I didn’t get then, it just « ran faster » for some reason), and he played « Great Soccer » while on my console, the same cartridge displayed the World variant. At the time almost all football games were terrible, it wasn’t that bad. I'm relieved to find out that Great Basketball was genuinely atrocious and unplayable, at the time I thought it was me.
Hey Jeremy, I ordered your NES Works Volume 1 book close to two months ago from Limited Run. I emailed them about two weeks ago. They said they were backlogged with orders and the book would be placed on priority in their shipping list. I still haven't received the book. If the book is in stock, two months seems like a long time to wait.
I've seen that rapid fire unit device before, but had no idea what it was or what it was used for. I'll have to pick one up if I ever see one in the wild again. Any idea if it works with Genesis controllers or is it exclusively for the Master System controllers?
Still bummed I missed my opportunity to buy this during the final days of the Eshop- but I had run into the daily limit of money spending which is still a WILD freaking thing to have, so choices had to be made...
You can always look for the physical Sega 3D Classics release! It even has the original SMS Fantasy Zone 2 included! (with 3D effects!) That being said, the 3DS version of Fantasy Zone 2 W is the best way to play it!
It did indeed release in PAL territories, for whatever reason it came a while after the US release, I remember being very happy when they did eventually announce it for release here

So Nintendo, Sega, and later Playstation and Xbox all had official magazines... was there one for the PC Engine/TG16 as well?
In the US, I believe TurboPlay was the main publication for the TG16.
